I can answer your question about using maps from other games. The quick answer is: no.
Especially not from FireRed to Silver or something like that. If you mean, have Gold/Silver's New Bark Town in Fire Red, but exactly as it is in Gold/Silver, then you'd have to insert Gold and Silver tiles (map graphics) into a FireRed ROM, and then use AdvanceMap to manually map out New Bark Town.
You could import maps from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald to FireRed/LeafGreen or vice versa, but the map graphics are stored in a different order between the games so you'd have to manually edit the maps anyway.
