  • Nothing much. I am just hoping colcolstyles doesn't win by a landslide.
I have high school this year, but it's really boring.
Are you kidding?! That's the first thing I have to do!
If I don't have a general plan for the long run, I'll probably run into difficulties later and be forced to go back and change things. Plus, it helps when you're making maps to know exactly where the exits have to be and what other features the map needs. But, at the same time, it is kinda limiting creativity-wise. Although I find that if I don't think out exactly what I want the map to look like beforehand, all of my maps turn out the same :\
Eh, I dunno about a new RHN. I think the problem with the old one was that they ran out of new material. I think if you let things be, you'll be able to start it up in a couple months or so and have plenty of new things to discuss/report/whatever. The hacking scene needs to change a little first, in my opinion.
As for the world map, I first have to get a concept for what the region is going to look like. All I know is that there is an island in the south-western corner that you start on and you get on a boat that takes you to the main region. Other than that, I got nothin'. A few scattered ideas for the layout of towns' maps but nothing on the layout of towns on the world map (if that makes any sense).
    Neither will I, actually.
I'll let you know if anything interesting happens (hopefully the results will be posted before then). GAH! I can't get my mind off of the competition! I keep trying to do my school reading but I inevitably find myself back here, checking the Get-Together forum for a results thread. I even tried mapping the next route for my project but either 1) I couldn't focus enough or 2) I emptied every last bit of creativity I had into that last map, leaving me with nothing. Maybe I should take a break from mapping for a while. I guess I'll try my hand at either music hacking or some more advanced graphical stuff, like designing a world map or something.
Yeah, everything you said was true. The map is pretty crowded so it might get marked down for that. It really depends on the judges and whatever style they think is best. I don't know much about Vesper or what he likes in a map so things should be interesting. Hopefully they'll post the results soon. I'm getting antsy
Well Vampire://Krimm has a good shot too. Though I'm not sure if they're giving maps made in AdvanceMap extra points due to ROM limitations. If they are, yeah I think Thrace definitely has a good chance.
I was really disappointed with sasquatchd00d's map. Yes, it's very beautiful but I was hoping for something a little more grandiose. Though I've notice he puts a lot of emphasis on subtle beauty when mapping/rating maps. I guess that's just his style.
Neti and Sab also are possible contenders but I don't really like Neti's new mapping style, nor am I sure the judges will take to it either.
Finally, Saidai No Soba-Ya had a pretty good map. I'm just not sure if it'll be enough to win. At this point, it's anybody's game really. I've been awaiting a verdict eagerly since Monday morning and the stress is really starting to get to me :D
You know, I think taking that class in C++ has really helped my scripting. Now, I use "call" a lot more than "goto" and I feel like I understand the script's flow a lot better now. I mean, I just completed a 282-line script (counting indentation, of course) in only a couple of hours. My scripting has always been decent but I think C++ has definitely improved my scripting ability. I believe that if I actually sat down and focused on hacking for like a month, I could probably get at least half of my hack done, if not more. Which is unfortunate because summer is just winding down and I'm not going to have much time to hack anymore D:
    Thanks ^_^
Actually, on the topic of tile errors, Luck was able to find a tile error. It was a really hard one to spot (I wouldn't have noticed even if the map was a quarter of its size). Luck has a good eye for that kind of stuff.

I know this comes across as snobbish but I think there's actually a fair chance that I might not win. Everybody seems to think that I will but if I know Hiroshi Sotomura (which I don't), he loves playing devil's advocate. If a lot of n00bs like something, he will usually take up the other side in order to disassociate himself with the n00bs, or for whatever reason he does it. Maybe he's just a pessimistic guy and when everyone else is swooning over what they think is a great thing, he tries to point out its negatives. He's a very smart guy (and so is Thrace, who happens to share this trait, though to a much lesser degree) and I'm not criticizing him but I'm beginning to think that his vote isn't going to help me much.
Thinking about it, I guess I do the same thing sometimes. I remember MASTEROFPUPPETS93 posted a map which was good but a lot of people were giving it 10/10s and calling it the best thing ever. Then I came in and, despite the fact that it was in fact quite good, pointed out everything he did wrong. It gives you that feeling of elitism that just can't be matched :D

Oh and I'm sorry about your arm. Is it safe to assume that football is the reason this regrettable fate that befell you?
Well... That seems a good reason! Do what you want, not my neighbourhood.

Why do you want to annoy your neighbourhood?
Oh good. Modding is a huge responsibility, and you seem to do it very well. My schools starts in 2 weeks. Yay for Britain! *Plays Rule Britannia on the Trumpet*... Woah, never knew I could play that on my trust instrument!
