Have you ever written a fanfic under the impression that it was a completely original idea, only to find out that somebody else had written one with a similar plot/main character/overall story structure and posted it before you did?

In the same fandom, no, partly because I (think I) don't read enough fanfiction and partly because I come up with the most messed up ideas or obscure characters I can think of to insert into fandom.

In general, sometimes but not frequently for the above reason.

Does anyone have problems in getting distracted from writing?

What do you think I should be doing right now? XD

Seriously, yes. All too frequently. I'd have Midsummer Knights up on a weekly basis, but I'm always too distracted by the interwebs to focus on writing.

What is you opinion on Lost Chapters? And have you ever read one in a Fan Fic?

If you're going to write a revision to your story in which you add chapters, I really don't mind as long as you revise the rest of it. I can't think off the top of my head too many writers who do this, however, so that's all I'll say on the matter.

I think you can ask a mod to change a thread title for you. In general, it's completely kosher to change a fanfic title after you post part of it. After all, it's your story. So, yeah. Maybe try PMing Astinus?

PMing Astinus should do the trick. I PMed CWTA,P when he was the mod and he changed my title.

And now I'm envisioning Astinus as a character in a forum insurance commercial for some reason. 0.o

Anyway, as for the whole "do you get distracted from writing" thing? YES. Always. If it isn't schoolwork or debate eating into my free time, it's teh intarweb preventing me from concentrating. There's just so much I feel like I need to do before I write that I never get to it. I'm honestly surprised that I managed to finish chapter one of "Thief in the Night".

    Sorry couldn't resist. XDDDD

Does anyone have problems in getting distracted from writing?

Every single day. I sometimes get so involved in my writing that, I'll actually stop writing and imagine what I'm gonna do for the next 10 chapters; XD

Yes, all the time, but I've discovered I'm only distracted when people bother me, or when I'm online. So... I've started writing down everything in a notebook; I'm getting much farther than I ever have online. :P

It is now stickied, and will be linked in the rules thread...once I finish rewriting the rules.

Would you like me to try and fix the smooshed post, or will you like to do that yourself?
I think I'll let you try to fix it; as a mod, you might be able to override the "automatically combining posts" feature of the board.

What is you opinion on Lost Chapters? And have you ever read one in a Fan Fic?
I've come across "Outtakes" chapters, and that's about as close as I've come.

As for "movie" chapters/one-shots, if they're essentially one long chapter that fits in with the plot, I'll obviously read if I'm already following the story. If it goes off on some tangent from the main plot, it depends on the author. One author on the lagger is planning a "movie" in a post separate from the main fic that I do not intend to touch with a ten-foot pole.

Frankly, I don't see the need for "movie chapters in a separate thread," unless you're trying to attract readers to a part of your fic who may otherwise be daunted by the length of the fic as a whole (as I did with a scene from mine last October.)

When you type it up on Word, the interwebz is a constant source of distraction, with anything from YouTube to Wikipedia:/

And my "chicken scratch" handwriting makes writing stuff not feasible.

    Oh, and before I forget:

"It's someone you can contact to address your issues with the fan fiction forums."

    "What's the name again?"

    "ASTINUS!"

... I'm not so sure. I know that there have been other stories that involved Colosseum, and more likely than not there have been some parodies of Colosseum as well, of sorts. Only, I'm not sure if there is a fic that aims to explain everything about it, such as the plotholes and random events and whatnot.

One comes to mind by Pichu Star of something, only if I remember that story was in a more 'serious' form to mine, and had many invented characters, sideplots and whatnot... and it hasn't been updated for a bit.

For a one-shot that I have done - well, I'm not sure on that either - haven't seen any stories that had a similar idea to it or anything as of yet.

What is you opinion on Lost Chapters? And have you ever read one in a Fan Fic?
This affects me. I've been surprised at requests for a 'spin-off' for a character that I had practically made up on the spot... bemuses me to say the least. Undecided on whether I would do one, and if so if it would hold any relevance to my story...
My opinion on them - well, it depends. If it makes sense and seems interesting, I'll look at it - if not, I'll have to think about it.

Have have a feeling I know which fic you are talking about, and perhaps why you want to avoid it as well... ;)
DP - the one that you did wasn't bad - I liked it. Do somewhat agree with your thoughts however - there's not much point if it can go into the fic anyway IMO.

    I can't say that I have. How original my work or anything about it is or is not is just one of those things that doesn't ever cross my mind. ^^;

I don't think I've ever read any such thing, though it could be that I've read one or more and have simply forgotten that I have. XD; At any rate, I think I'd be up for reading a "lost chapter" for a fic that I'm following, sure. ^^

Yes, all the time. I too would just check out how one of the Pokemon would look like and then the next minute go to Serebii. XD I too would also watch YouTube videos (for some reason I mostly watched music videos XD).

Not only that, I'm distracted too when reading a fic...like right now. XD Sometimes if a chapter is a bit on the long side, I take a break for half an hour instead of saying to myself it would ten. ^O^

I think what I come closest to Lost Chapters is katiekitten's fic. There was one time she posted delated scenes. I too will plan to post deleted scenes after the story either over or at least finished the first part of it just for kicks. XD

And DarkPersian...I too got an idea of what fic you're talking about. I'm actually interested about what that movie will be about although the fans are like a thousand times more excited about it than me. XD

Okay, back to reading that fic. XD

If your fic had an opening theme song (preferably an Anime song), what would it be?

Probably the theme song to Totally Spies

But in all seriousness, probably something like "I'm just a kid" by...whoever sings that song~

woo-hoo I am going to use this place more since I am writing a fanfic that will probably be up next week.

Though I would not choose an Anime song (though it would be a better idea), I would probably choose a strong song, like No More Sorrow - Linkin Park, or something slightly comedic yet good like I'm Not Okay - My Chemical Romance. I would choose those songs for the first couple of Volumes. When the story would progress more, per sé Volume 3 or 4, I would use a song like Red Flag - Billy Talent or House Of Wolves - My Chemical Romance.

So, obviously, fun and strong songs would be the best choice in my opinion.

...Anime song? Sorry, have very little idea about anime music.

I'm not sure - maybe a not-that-serious song reflecting my fic's non-seriousness in itself... maybe Skill by JAM project - have been 'inspired' by it when I heard it... but ATM I can't really think of anything.

Eh, I'll just say Miror B's salsa music and leave it at that. :)

If my fic had an opening/theme song, I think it would be Yu Yu Hakusho's song, Smile Bomb. I think it describes how each of the characters (Diamond, Pearl, and Dawn) feel, their personalities, and thoughts.

I love making soundtracks for my fics. XD I try not to, however, choose anime songs, mostly because I never really felt that songs from other fandoms were fair game, you know? It's like making a soundtrack out of a soundtrack.

In any case, yes, I've thought about this.

Midsummer Knights: Either "So Long, Astoria" by the Ataris or "South Side" by Moby and Gwen Stefani. The first is mostly for the lines "life is only as good as the memories we make / and I'm taking back what belongs to me"... which, uh, would kinda be implying things about the fic. The alternate is mostly because "South Side" really does essentially describe Verona City at the beginning of the fic.

If I absolutely had to choose an anime song, however, I'd probably go with "A Distant Cry," the Serial Experiments Lain ending theme, partly because it has that gritty quality that I'm going for and partly because the lyrics are just as fitting and describe Viola's attitude towards everything almost perfectly. ("I can't say I didn't know about it, / But I don't remember taking any part in it. / I think my freedom cost me dearly, / But I don't remember selling my soul so cheaply.")

Other pet fic I'm working on: Already decided it should most likely be "Through the Fire and the Flames" by DragonForce, just because it fits with the theme I'm working with. Anime theme would probably be "Lilium," the Elfen Lied opening, just to be as unpleasantly ironic.

Hmm... For Distance Hurricane definitely Falco the first opening to The Law of Ueki. The mystic feel of the song grabs the essence of overall atmosphere I try to write.

Edit: for Bone Chant!/S.O.S!! (really have to get around working on that *nods*) I guess Go! Go! Rescue by JAM Project. It IS a PMD based story after all... And the pretty much the heavy influence to why I gave S.O.S!! the title it has. Wanted to make a fun in-joke about that within the story...
