Look, I'm not saying anyone is going to change their minds after the fact, or base judgement solely on this largely pointless argument - I'm saying that if my entry hadn't already been judged, I was making it a very unpleasant idea that I, card-carrying elitist Philistine (if that's not a contradiction in terms), could do well; therefore ruining my own chances as much as it's possible for me to do. I shouldn't really have said it, but please, it was never my intention to make it sound as if I thought you would behave dishonestly. I've put an explanation of my actions in the topic - it's probably better if you read it there, since, for once I think I've managed to write something inoffensive in the last 24 hours.
As for your second point, yes, not all published books are of a good standard, I know; but that doesn't excuse them. I'll start reading books again when authors start writing them, as opposed to writing what are essentially film scripts for movies nobody in their right mind would go to see, turning them into prose, and cramming in as many adjectives and similes and thought bubbles written as italics they can possibly manage.
