I've had XP corrupt and crash far more than I've ever had 7 with no service packs corrupt and crash on identical hardware. Driver coding and integration is much better polished for Windows 7 at present, and driver issues do cause most Windows crashes. XP loses all support in June 2014, so I don't think there'll be another version of Windows desktop platform on the market yet at that point. I mean, they don't even have plans for a date for a public beta of the next version of Windows.
