Aww lol, I actually don't know why I like them so much, I despise bugs in real life, when they're not big enough. I know that might sounds strange, but at least when they are big, like a very big beetle, they seem more like an awesome animal to me, rather than a gross insect. With battling, people are either interested or they're not, though it has increasingly become a battle of perception much like with rating in that the reality is never as bad as popular pessimistic views make make it out to be. Would interest probably go up if people didn't whine about every last crit or supposedly broken Pokemon? Maybe (probably not), but it would be more enjoyable if people weren't subjected to that all the time. But like you said, it's just a matter of interest really, and that can only be manipulated so much.

As for me, I've been in a frantic college visit organization mode, and when I haven't been doing that, it's either been homework (senior year hasn't been very chill so far) or finishing a war game I started with my friends that we started in the spring but couldn't finish in the summer because half of the players were either at cross country practice all the time or were in France. Typical Steinbeck.

It was better in 2007 because the drama wasn't usually within the community as far as I can remember, though there wasn't really a vehicle for it because we didn't have a server. Flaming was really bad though and sometimes trolling though trolling hadn't yet become some "cool" thing to do.

It's easy to overstate or understate things about the forum. In general, activity has declined while behavior declined and has recently dramatically improved. In general, any post-Plat pre-"be nice" isn't worth glorifying. Plat sucked a lot too - after it, battling and especially rating went down a lot though who knows, maybe people were losing interest anyway. It's tough to say, but really, I think the best attitude is one of just looking ahead.

The myth and the reality are two different things.

There was still plenty of drama, leagues was a Stadium thing mostly, half of the comnights failed, most everything was poorly moderated by D_A and me, and tournaments failed and mostly didn't return. In truth, we've been complaining about S&M's demise for well over two years.
