Every 2 months is still more often than the couple years I was gone!
That's awesome, congrats! I also got to move in with my partner, that was around the middle of 2022, but we've moved around a couple times and I'm living with his family right now after being laid off from a job I liked in the city, so I'm mainly just trying to move on from that and find something that'll work out.

tbh i thought you'd fully migrated to discord and never return here, but then again i thought the same for me as well lol. can never really truly escape this place~
congrats on the move in! and sorry abt the job oof. what was it and how long were you there? and how's the search so far for the new career?

I like discord but 99% of the time I'm in a small private server with only about 20 people, close friends who talk daily. PC's server is way too massive and way too full of people I don't know to be comfortable there ;;
I like it on the forums a lot, it feels easier to keep up with and a lot more like, casual and home-y i guess?

I worked shipping orders at a card shop back home, and got recommended to a card shop over in the province I'm in now for the same kind of thing. I was there for about a couple months before they told me they wanted to free up work hours and adjust their schedule. I've been to a couple card shops I'd like to work at in a city we plan to move to but I've mainly been trying to recover mentally before moving forward.

lol 99% of my time spent in PC's discord is just 3 channels. i use that browse channels feature where you can untick to hide them, and as a result the server feels way more digestible haha.
i do like the slowness here, but sometimes it does get a bit too slow to the point i get understimulated :p very common to wake up the next day and still see the exact same "most recent post" on some lonely sections.

working in a card shop sounds mighty cozy~ all this time i thought those went the Blockbuster route of closing down in favor of pure online shopping. i also can't remember the last time i bought a card for someone. most of the time i just fold some paper and craft it myself. that's just the cheapskate in me though.

I was actually just thinking yesterday that there's points I'll just sit there checking my alerts because I don't want to just be spamming in the same threads over and over ;;
I've been back for 2 days and I'm like already addicted lol

Oh no no, card shop as in like, MTG and Pokemon and all that! A lot of our orders would be online but depending on how big the community in the area is, those shops allow people to either come in and play casually or offer a venue for tournaments, so handfuls of people would still come in and order cards over the counter. I love supporting local card shops however possible! 🤍

oH lmfao i googled "card shop" and saw outlets with nothing but greeting cards and thought "wow those didn't go out of business in 2009? good for them" lmao
that makes way more sense tho. having a physical venue for games with friends is great for the community~ i'm assuming they sell literally every kind of card game there is yeah? maybe even some board games ooh how i wish there was smth like that near me.

i don't think i'll ever go back to my ultra addiction phase of being on this website 11 hours a day spamming the ever living shit out of Forum Games lol. Off Topic is my new turf to chill at. it's like Askreddit but if it were 10x slower and more wholesome haha.

They sell ones I'd never heard of! Things like Digimon, Final Fantasy, One Piece, and Street Fighter have their own card games!

We wouldn't much of them, MTG is always first, Pokemon is always second, and Yugioh was third over here while Digimon was third back home. They're often general hobby shops and sell stuff like board games and things like figures and mats for tapletop games like D&D.

It's such a nice environment, I've grown up around them all my life. 🤍

I don't know if this is a known fact about me but I played the pokemon TCG competitively for about 10 years, so I visited a lot and knew a lot of people in the area. I figured I was already someone who would be a good fit to work at a store like that, a lot less people know how Pokemon works compared to MTG, so I sorta hit it off there.

I was in one of the "guess the next user to post" threads yesterday and was thinking about how posting there and seeing you in there was sorta what got me into this forum in the first place. All the Off Topic threads are still my home I guess, but I know some people thought it'd be cool to see me branch out last time so I've been sorta trying that.

radical~ i wish i was more into those kinds of card games and tabletops but i'm pretty darn casual rn. embracing being a normie with irl friends, UNO, cluedo, and whatever games we know on a standard deck of playing cards (the ones with clubs and hearts or whtvr idk what to call it) also wow this 420 character limit is rly not good for my over-explainy ADHD brain lol

i think being casual about it is the way to go. i sorta fell off competitive tcg when i didn't like the meta and the stress of "i'm not good enough" got to me more and more. typical card and board games are something i haven't played a lot of.

DMs work without character limits, would you rather do that?

i didn't think it'd work but i talked to glorious admin sheep on discord and she increased the limit to 1500 bcs i asked lets gooo haha. can't believe i'm making an impact on the forums even today~

anyway for real though, just too lazy to hop into DMs so imma stay out here for the meantime. being casual is just my way of life right now. i try not to take anything competitively bcs im scared of caring too much when i lose lol.

you and her are both wonderful, thank you. not all heroes wear capes lol
i didn't think that was something that could be changed, just like a quirk of the new system or whatever? glad to be proven wrong though.

sure, that's totally fine!
i think being casual is the way to go, it's so easy to worry about your skill or how good you are at stuff like that, we forget why we enjoy stuff in the first place. i've seen a lot of stuff like "i'm this character's number 1 fan!" and i don't want something i find comfort in to become a competition like that.

just a quirky decision i'm guessing on the devs' end. maybe it was a default xenforo number? idk and idc, so long as it's increased~

not everyone has competitive spirit or drive, and i've realized a while ago that i fall under that category. it brought way more stress than fulfillment anytime i competed in anything, which explains why i'm not sporty as a person, as the whole essence of it is purely competition. it begs the question why i'm so into Counter Strike, one of the most competitively driven esports games there is. i oughta get into more chill games that don't have time limits or require too much mechanical skill/attention. i've been gathering some reddit recommendations the past couple months but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

probably a healthy realization to have, i'd much rather be happy not chasing the top than struggle to chase it when i'm not even sure i'd be fulfilled by it.
saying this sounds dumb and obvious but there's probably another specific aspect of it you enjoy enough to keep wanting to play it and engage with it. i don't know much about counter strike, i've never played it personally, but i know even for pvp games or genres i've never liked it's still satisfying for me to make good plays or hit a really nice shot or something. i don't like competition and don't like shooters but i know i've had a few moments in games like overwatch or destiny 2 that made me feel really cool.

over the past few years i've been trying to play a bunch of stuff i've always been interested in or games i never finished as a kid, maybe finding something like that could be a nice change of pace? i imagine there'd be more of a desire to play something like that rather than recommendations you aren't quite motivated enough to start playing right away?

honestly counter strike is best when i'm with friends who don't care about winning and just wanna have fun with strategies and whatnot. if i'm playing solo, there's a high chance i get grouped with toxic try-hards who attempt to kick me every other round, and that just makes me wanna stop playing.

honestly i might just reinstall GTA and free roam. that used to bring me a lot of peace as a kid. not having to do missions, just exploring the world full on and engaging in a bit of hostile warcrimes along the way. either that or cities skylines with infinite money and see what kind of bs i can conjure up lol. i might p*rate them tho, even tho i literally have those games legally purchased in my steam library lol, bcs i remember how annoyed i was tryna manually update my mods when they eventually broke bcs the games themselves constantly updated. at least with cracked versions im stuck to one specific version and can just block the game from connecting to the internet or smth.
