My opinion below
Favourite Album:
My favourite album of 2009 comes at a debated decision. For me I haven't had too many of my favoured bands release much. Muse & Biffy Clyro released two rather illustrious albums and this is where my debate bagan. Muse went to where they had always intended to go with thier new ablum ; very symphonic and following thier classical influences but in a new age. They had thier singles also, it was very much an album split in two, very progressive near the end. I liked it but I thought it could have been more... Groundbreaking I suppose, the whole thing was rather unlike Muse in the end, still a solid album though.
Muse's new work came second to my favourite album of the year, that album is Biffy Clyro's Only Revolutions. I've never been a huge Biffy fan and the hype around Puzzle ended up having me anticipate an album that wasn't as good as it had led me to hope for. This wasn't the case with thier new album, kick starting with the rather radio friendly single named "The Captain", but I'll forgive them for that, it's still a good song even if I'm not a fan of songs directed to make sales. The album continues to deliver with some variety but never drifting. Every song seems to have a great lyrics, good music is also a help. Only Revolutions is my most enjoyed album of a year which was rather dull for the music industry.
Favourite song:
Something by LadyGaga
I'll stick by what I've been hearing on the radio, I've always been a fan of sort of Jazzy style singing as I guess I've stiudied the genre and always admired the style of singing. I know I'll be shot for this later but Michael Buble with Haven't Met You Yet was by far my most favoured single of the year, for something that neared the top of the charts I actually liked it which sings alarm bellls ringing my head as I'm usually against the coporate chart music. But at least it's something different compared to the usual dribil. A real singer who doesn't rely on production, Buble suprised me with this one.
Favourite Newcomers:
Might come back to this one. I'd have to research myiTunes.
Favourite Movie:
Haven't seen too many films this year so I'll count my opinon as one to not be taken so seriously. Best film I've seen all year was Rec but it happens to be over a year old at this stage. But for a movie that came out this year would be funny People with Adam Sandler & Seth Rogen and many celebrities playing cameo roles such as James Taylor, Eminem, Ray from Everybody Loves Raymond and more. It was pretty entertaining, the story was pretty cliche, rich guy gets sick and now he finally wants to live a normal life and make up all the bad things he's done in the past etc/ but the rather stringy story leads to an entertaining plot, a rather funny one too. It's something to watch if you're bored over the holidays. Paranormal Activity was about the most different film of the year but I wouldn't watch it off a cinema screen or without the right athmosphere.
Favourite TV Series:
Lost, it's the no.1 TV series of all time. I can see why. I'm pretty annoyed that the new series is taken it's time to be released but the latest season certainly opened many more doors and promises an entertaining new series. If you haven't watched it before, don't start now. Get Season 1 on DVD if you really want to get into it though.
