  • My favorites things are the uncensorship (Death references, casinos, and team rocket activities), nostalgia for being the first pokemon games I played, and of course: The glitches! (Looking at you, MissingNo.)

  • The music and the flat 2D graphics - I'm not a fan of the look of Gen IV+ personally.
I also have a soft spot for the original starter pokemon too!

I really find RBY to be challenging, which I enjoy. No matter how hard you train, I think the game will always be a challenge. No Exp Share or anything like it.
PS: There was Exp. All. You received it from one of Professor Oak's Aide's when you caught 50 pokemon. It shared all exp between the party equally during Gen I :)

  • I really like the final mind blowing twist of all Pokemon game that your rival is the champion! which we just learn after beating Lance! Only didn't like the difficulty.

The graphics for it's nostalgic feeling of the simpler times and how different/frustrating/broken some of the mechanics were

  • The 1st gen was the beginning of PokeMania. It was a glorious time to be a kid!

I was in middle school during the time so I was teased for liking "little kid" stuff, but my brother was in 1st grade at the time so he got me into it. Thanks bro.

Beside the point, gen 1 was the beginning of the franchise that spawned through SEVEN generations and ... I don't know where i'm going with this ... so in conclusion ...

I like 95% of what gen 1 had to offer. Nothing specific.

  • I never thought I'd be saying this but, Pikachu.

I always had something against Pikachu, I just never liked the guy and overexposure played a part in that. ThoughTravelling around with Pikachu in Yellow is a feeling I'll never forget. I could genuinely feel myself getting attached to my mouse companion. Whenever he fainted I would rush straight to the Pokemon centre, I refused to use the bike or deposit the little guy in the PC so I could walk with him and seeing the little guy jump side to side being distressed over you being seperated from him by a cliff is a touching little detail.

I would bring him to battles as much as possible. I let him take on Lt. Surge and deliver the final blow to Brock's Onix. Despite the odds not being in his favour.

To top it all, whenever he fainted in battle and I heard that cry, I felt bad for letting him down.

Pokemon Yellow gave me a whole new appreciation for the little rodent.

  • I love the plot twist of encountering the rival as champion. Morever, I like that most of time opponent's LV were usually higher than mine.

  • the music is basically nostalgia fuel for me.
    the starters are great
the difficulty is at a good level and increases appropriately.
aesthetically its appealing for the time it was released.
    its just, perfect to me.

  • I like the simple-ness of it. It really introduced the world of Pokémon in a original, flat way (not that it's a bad thing). It helps the player understand what Pokémon is all about, unlike the new games where they are competent with one another to have the "next big thing/feature" which frankly is a bit annoying.
I also like how many puzzles RBY included, in recent games you don't get those same puzzles you did in the older games. For example, the spin tiles and the ice floor.

Pretty much the opposite of the What Annoyed you thread. What did you like best?

the map, how the color changed, charmander, lavender town and its music, team rocket. most of all the simplicity, now we have natures, ivs, abilities, attack AND special attack, hold items, much more moves. As a kid i wanted to be the very best but with each passing year it gets harder and harder and the dream fades a little more.
