  • Hi there! Over the past few weeks and months I entered a deep competitive Pokemon hibernation. In this time, I still went on Shoddy, talked, laughed at Scarf Rotom-h and other seemingly bad sets, and asked for help on teams. Personally, I've discovered that Mr. Wolfy thinks of me as a "master lurker" which I completely deny. In order to refute his statement, I constructed a UU team with some (that is a huge understatement) advice from one of three local mods here, Dark Azelf (aka horny elf on shoddy). This team has fared well so far, laddering on Smogon I won most matches except 1 against Dexter Morgan, who I didn't realize was Jabba, and a few other obscure battlers. The basic strategy is to form a coherent string of resistances letting Moltres sweep mid to late-game. When playing with this team, I began to really appreciate Moltres and Qwilfish, for the birdy was an exceptionally good sweeper under the right circumstances and Qwil was a reliable Spiker that had plenty of chances to set up. Mr. Horny Elf also sent me a few shaky options, such as the Blastoise I so distrust even if he claims it's the second best UU spinner. Being a very clumsy person, you S&Mers are trusted with patching up some weaks not detected by me.

I decided that from now on all my teams will be shiny (although some Pokemon look hideous if they're shiny, so I cringe at this decision).

    Spiritomb (M) @ Leftovers
    Ability: Pressure
    EVs: 208 HP/184 Atk/116 SDef
    Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Sucker Punch
    - Taunt
    - Will-o-wisp
    - Pain Split
    ---

Spiritomb is a wonderful UU Ghost imo; it's fairly bulky and isn't too weak (but still weak). What you see here gentlemen, is the standard set. Originally, I had an SD Drapion on this team for an Alakazam check, but quickly came to realize Drapion wouldn't last long if Alakazam started bombarding it or just switched (SR and no recovery is bad enough, let alone if I use LO). This thing has worked fairly well for a lead, and it makes great bait for Anti-Lead Arcanine's Toxic or Flare Blitz. I opted not to run any attacking move besides Sucker Punch and instead run Taunt, which works wonderfully on switch-ins. Personally, I believe that currently I should lead with Mesprit or Qwilfish over Tomb but have not come to a conclusion. Makes an excellent answer to Fighting and Psychic types if need be. ;D

    scepty.png

    Sceptile (M) @ Choice Scarf
    Ability: Overgrow
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
    Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Energy Ball
    - Hidden Power [Rock]
    - Leaf Storm
    - Focus Blast
    ---

I was a bit skeptical of ScarfTile at first, tbh. Scarfers have left a bad taste in my mouth after Rotom-h but redeemed themselves with Ttar. This set actually does more than 2 and as Horny Elf told me, outspeeds and easily KOs all RD sweepers besides Jolly Kabutops (only about ~7% of them run Jolly though) with its STAB attacks. Hidden Power Ice is nice for doing 40% to Venusaur (lol) but it made me a massive Moltres bait. Hidden Power Rock does wonders and does 94.4% - 111.8% to standard LO Moltres whilst still keeping Altaria from switching in freely. Besides the Grass-types, Altaria, and Torterra which are all handled by Moltres and Mesprit there's no use for Hidden Power Ice, so why bother anyway? I find Focus Blast to be very rarely used in most cases but meh it's better than nothing; at least it does more to Drapion and Houndoom than all the other moves. It is very helpful for scaring away naughty Bulky Waters, which Moltres despises, especially Milotic.

    molty.png

    Moltres @ Life Orb
    Ability: Pressure
    EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/4 SDef
    Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Roost
    - Hidden Power [Grass]
    - Fire Blast
    - Air Slash
    ---

Moltres is the main sweeper in this team, and so shouldn't be revealed until I'm sure what the enemy team has as its Bulky Water and how it'll be slaughtered. At first, this team was concerned with keeping Moltres from sweeping, not supporting it. It has good offensive synergy with Sceptile, whereas Moltres made Grass-types run away, Sceptile deals with Water-types. I also start laughing at Arcanine thinking they can outsmart me with Fire Blast, since I can either A) switch to Qwilfish and use it as set-up fodder or B) Air Slash it to death (any hazards guarantee a 2hko since most Arcanine take 52% from my Moltres). Ghosts are a lovable free switch-in since any sane player will try to burn my Hitmontop before attacking, which is especially good since I find WoW very predictable on most occasions. Did I mention this little bastard hits like a truck? <3 May switch to Hidden Power Electric though to stop Qwilfish switch-ins if they dare.

    Mesprit @ Leftovers
    Ability: Levitate
    EVs: 252 HP/164 Spd/92 SAtk
    Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
    - Psychic
    - Ice Beam
    - Stealth Rock
    - Thunder Wave
    ---

I shall concede that Mesprit is one of the best UU Psychic-types, especially as a defensive one. As I've noted earlier in this RMT, Mesprit may become the lead. As my SR user and answer to threats such as Torterra and Altaria (actually Altaria is more accurately described as a "weak little nuisance"), it is paramount Mesprit stays alive until any weaknesses it covers are swept off the field. Although it's a shame I couldn't run T-Bolt for additional attempts to fight Bulky Waters, I'd like to assure you Ice Beam is far more useful since Sceptile already scares them away so don't challenge me on that. Thunder Wave is really the only debatable move here, since it seems I'm more likely to Ice Beam or Psychic to death wasteful battlers who let their Claydol (bad) or Hitmontop etc. die when they have a Moltres on their team. Toxic seems nice for Slowking and Milotic. ;3 Getting annoyed by Sash Explosion Qwilfish though. >_> lol

    Hitmontop (M) @ Leftovers
    Ability: Intimidate
    EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 Def
    Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Close Combat
    - Sucker Punch / Rest
    - Rapid Spin
    - Foresight
    ---

Hitmontop is an amazing UU Spinner and works well as a TTar counter if you're desperate. It's my main answer to Rock-types and lures in free switches for Moltres. Sucker Punch has been useless so far since most Ghosts I've seen so far just WoW me so I may replace it with Rest. The thing is, I don't have Aromatherapy to instantly get rid of Sleep status. Most players I've faced are so incompetent they let their Rotom die early-game and sadly that was their only Ghost, so I have not yet actively used Foresight. Smogon's EV Spread "seems bad" so I pumped up Hp + Def so Top lasts longer. Otherwise, it's pretty much standard. It's a bit sad that while I try to preserve my Spinner, some people have 2 spinners and both drop dead without any layers set-up or spun away. I also have no clue why the Hitmontop pic is funky and can't be bothered to fix it. :x

    180px-211Qwilfish.png

    Qwilfish (M) @ Leftovers
    Ability: Poison Point
    EVs: 252 HP/152 Def/104 SDef/8 Spd
    Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
    - Taunt
    - Spikes
    - Poison Jab
    - Pain Split
    ---

Qwilfish is surprisingly good in my eyes, or at least this set. It's bulkier than I expected and proves to be an excellent counter to Azumarill if I avoid Return (which I can absorb with Tomb). And have I mentioned how this thing just massacres Anti-Lead Arcanine? Wow, what a great Spiker haha. I must applaud Elf for constantly mentioning Qwil and recommending it to me during one of our private chats over several of my teams. It has replaced Cloyster in my heart as a good Spiker to use as much as I enjoyed sadistically using Payback on NP Mismagius switch-ins, and it shall remain a part of this team unless you have some genius reason for removing it for Pokemon ______. For new users, on the Smogon Qwilfish analysis it's the "Bulky Spiker" set.

    ---

Well, I suppose that's the end of it! It took quite some time to be motivated to write a RMT, and Horny Elf kicked me on Shoddy because I've said I'd make a RMT one too many times. With this RMT published, it is clearly impossible for you to claim Lala's inactive, or the "master lurker", or a cop. Only an infidel would do such a thing. Oh, and Elf really likes his goat curry doesn't he? ;)

wolf: With this RMT published, it is clearly impossible for you to claim Lala's inactive, or the "master lurker", or a cop. you are still the main lurker of pokemon community(s)

    • Seen yesterday
I constantly suggest Qwil because its my set heil me.

Also Blastoise IS the 2nd best spinner in uu, it gets Foresight and beats Blaziken and Tres. ._. lol

You could use Rest on Hitmontop if you switched Mesprit to Uxie as it gets Heal Bell and still maintains SR.

Anyway every time Moltres comes in you lose a Pokemon to Air Slash/Fire Blast, same with Swellow. I suggest you put a Chansey or even Lanturn >> Mesprit and then Rotom >> Tomb for Swellow. Rotom also lets you take status, something which you cannot currently do. If you use Lanturn (who also gets Heal Bell !!) instead of Chansey, use Phan over Top for spinning and ghost busting duties and to maintain SR, so there are a few things for you to try. (Assurance and EQ from Adamant Phan decimate all the UU ghosts, use the Ev spread 252 HP / 188 Att / 62 Def / 8 Speed @ Adamant if you go with Phan).

HP Ice >> HP Rock on Tile now you have solid answers to Moltres and no longer need HP Rock. HP ice covers other grass types such as foe SD Sceptile who blow through Moltres with Rock Slide. Also for Altaria and Torterra too.

  • I'll test Lanturn >> Mesprit and Phan over Top. HP Ice over Sceptile too.

See kids, this is what happens when Horny Elf rates your team. x(
