  • Was bored, made thread. What do you guys think? I think they will just give them random names without a theme for some reason.

    If you mean for sword and shield they were already revealed to be Victor and Gloria.

    They're Victor and Gloria that stand for Victory and Glory since Sword and Shield has this sports feel to it. So there's your name and the theme.

  • They're also words that have to do with, well, winning. That seems to fit in with the gym and champion/tournament circuit they have going on here, alongside the Champion and other trainers getting sponsorships and etc. Winning is more important here, so it's neat to see something along those lines reflected in the default trainer names.

    ...incidentally, anyone know their canon Japanese names + translations?

    According to Bulbapedia, the female protagonist name is Yuri that is a pun for Yusho (Championship) and Shori(Victory) and the male protagonist name is Masaru that means to Surpass. It has something to do with winning just like their english name counterpart.
