  • Since people keep talking as if it's gonna happen, discuss Misty possibly returning to the show here and why you may think she will or won't.

  • I don't want her to. I don't think there should be a reason for her to return. She just wasn't a very could character compared to May, Dawn, and Serena. I like her goal as water pokemon master, but I just didn't like the way she acted compared to some. If anyone returns, I would much rather it be Dawn or Serena.

I will say that it would be nice if there was a new companion that liked a specific type of pokemon. Though Iris was just plain annoying. It doesn't have to be a specific type, it could be a color. Similar to Cassie in Johto Region where she liked Yellow and Black Pokemon because of the baseball team Electabuzz. I would really love to see a character like Cassie again.

  • As much as I like her, I can't imagine her being Ash's companion again. But, I would like to see her return for a few episodes in the Alola saga and maybe even get some new Pokemon from gens 4-7.

Honestly, with that G.E.M. series Misty figurine that just came out (and it definitely can't be for the 20th anniversary of the Anime, since that's not until next year, not to mention the only other figurine she was partnered with was Ash, with a Brock figurine being nowhere in sight), I really don't see why they WON'T bring her back. The Anime and the Pokémon Company don't even focus on old characters for their merchandising, so why would they release those figurines now? It's fishy, and the only thing that makes even the most remote of sense is bringing Misty back. And it also doesn't hurt that, since the anime's going to turn 20 next year, around the same time we go to Alola in fact, they'll do something to make it extra special, and what other way to do it than to bring back one of the series' most beloved characters.

I'll even post a picture as proof:

    http://allthingsmisty.tumblr.com/post/138639754982/gem-misty-and-ash-up-for-pre-order-now-at

Like I said, the anime and it's various merchandising doesn't even focus on old characters, so why would they even do it now, especially when it's not even the 20th anniversary of the anime yet (they would have released it next year instead of just a few days ago if it was for the 20th anniversary of the anime). Not to mention, ask yourself this, when's the LAST time you saw any old characters get merchandise after their time on the show was gone? Name me one May, Dawn, or Iris figurine that was released during DP/BW/XY, BW/XY, or XY. Just one. I bet you can't. Heck, Brock isn't even part of the lineup despite his being a former cast member and from the original series (and believe me, if they simply wanted to affect nostalgia for whatever reason for the Original series, aside from releasing it next year and not this year due to the anime's 20th anniversary being next year and not this year, they would have made sure Brock was included in the G.E.M. series. That's what I would have done.). In fact, besides Misty, the only Pokémon Anime characters who GOT a GEM series figurine as of now are Indigo-league Ash with Pikachu and Charmander, as well as Team Rocket with Wobbuffet and Meowth. And that's another thing. With Ash, it's clearly attempted to invoke some degree of nostalgia (especially when he's got Charmander with him, when by the time Misty got Togepi as the figurine depicted, Charmander was already a Charizard), and Team Rocket wears the same uniform in every series (Best Wishes aside), and besides which, they have Wobbuffet and Meowth with them, which are their mainstays. Misty, likewise, has Togepi and Psyduck, who by the time she left she had those as her constants, and even THEN, Psyduck to this day remains her constant.

EDIT: Okay, I stand corrected regarding Brock, they ARE going to be releasing a Brock figurine via MegaHouse G.E.M. series, alongside Nurse Joy (http://www.pokepolitan.com/2016/05/megahouse-gem-brock-nurse-joy.html). Even THERE, however, Brock still has Vulpix in that figurine, when he doesn't have Vulpix by the end of the series, and besides which, similar to Ash is in his Kanto outfit, indicating nostalgia purposes. And besides, my point still stands: If they wanted to just release them for the 20th anniversary, they would have released them in 2017, NOT 2016 (and Brock and Nurse Joy are going to be released in October of 2016).

EDIT 2: Might as well also point something else out, especially when people act like Misty being gone for 15 seasons is proof she'll never be coming back: We also never thought that Charizard would actually be back on Ash's permanent roster after Johto had Ash leaving him for training at Charcific Valley, at best if he were to return, he'd go back to Lisa afterwards. Yet with Best Wishes, not only does Charizard actually come back, he's even a permanent roster with the other Pokémon at Oak's Lab. And bear in mind, that took roughly a decade to pull off, if not a bit more than that. Let's also not forget about Jessiebelle either: She's had even LESS of a chance of returning at all due to her being a Character of the Day, not to mention not having so much as even a mere MENTION of her since the episode Holy Matrimony. Yet in DP, not only did they actually bring her back after over a decade of her absence, she even played a pretty major role in one of the episodes. if they could come back well over a decade after their previous appearances (and in the case of Charizard, even regain his spot of being a permanent roster for Ash via being an Oaked Pokémon), Misty most certainly has those chances as well.

I don't see why some people still hold so strong aversion toward Misty coming back. Its not like we had her in 900+ episodes to cause us to get tired of character, its been over 10 years ever since we saw her in any role or speaking position. Even if I disliked Misty out of respect for her unfinished story, legacy and fans I would at least gave her another chance.

Because with pokemon franchise celebrating 20th anniversary seem like ideal opportunity to bring Misty back and make her traveling protagonist in Hawaii themed region.

Since stronger continuity accompanied with return of popular older characters doing sequel to their stories, reviving on once meaningful bonds they shared with Ash and bringing themselves new versatile storylines and ideas waiting to be explored(like Misty very well could having TON of unused potential and unanswered mysteries in her story)could be step toward this company restoring once again its former glory. Thanks to unmeasurable hype, excitement and interest such move could achieve among millions of older fans who barely or do not have any interest in anime anymore. But would of company actually gave a damn about them, revived their childhood memories and offering content of higher quality worth their time un watching this anime.

Digimon with Tri Adventure project, Dragon Ball Super, Yugioh and movie Dark side of dimensions etc. All of them decided to revitalize classic, iconic main characters and deliver new twist to story through their revival. And they are making incredibly high success and huge interest among people thanks to this.

Ever since I heard of new upcoming region being rich with water Misty immediately came to my mind. Bias put aside, such kind of region is perfect place to bring water specialist like her back, promote aquatic features through iconic and already well known character who is more passionate about oceans and water pokemon than anyone else. Providing opportunities for Misty to compete in all kind of water related sports, tournaments serving as follow up from Whirl Cup.

Introduce fresh way of pokemon battling like underwater battles being totally amazing(like we saw in third movie when Misty fought Molly) and advance her water pokemon master career.

Making name for herself in trying to reach E4 position.

I think it would be very cool if Ash travelled through that region running across Misty in one of islands remembering of their adventure on Orange Islands. Serving as way to relieve their memories and strengthen friendship. With Misty deciding to join Ash instead of traveling alone for awhile as both work in reaching new, bigger heights as pokemon trainers.

So yes I believe Alola region from Misty return would only benefit bringing new enjoyable twists to pokemon show breaking away stale routine. Bring new texture to story and ultimately help advance this character plots as well.

I believe all previous character will reappear in Pokemon Sun and Moon Anime since Its Pokemon anime's 20 year anniversary.
Misty has better chance because Alola is tropical Island and Pokemon anime need someone like Bulma (DBZ) , Nami (One Piece) or Gwen (Ben 10) for better GROUP CHEMISTRY.
Off Course , Lillie has the background to play those role but I don't find her Cute! Plus , Her game personality is more like Serena.
However , Misty might not be a traveling companion ! She might become a referring character to appear time to time in Alola.
If Misty does comes back then I hope she has better and more upgraded One-side Ponytail instate of her HGSS hairstyle ! In fact , HGSS Misty should only appear as a magazine cover before Ash meet newly designed Misty in Alola.
After all , Misty is far better with One-side Ponytail! In fact , I feel like she's the 1st popular character with One-side Ponytail.
I really wish she has a One-side ponytail that likes --
    Spoiler:

  • Like Icy said, I don't really want Misty to return because I feel that everyone who wants her back are people from the 1st Gen days who can't get over their nostalgia but also there's no reason for her to come back at the moment.

I would really like to see Misty reaction upon seeing Greninja.

Misty returning is far better then Serena staying !
Off Course , 1st Gen want Misty back since Current Gen didn't see Misty! In fact , Current Gen are not really interested in Pokemon anime as 1st Gen was.

Actually, my reason for wanting Misty to come back is so she can actually continue her goal to become a Water Pokémon Master. Misty's the only female lead who was forced to put her goal aside, as well as the only former lead to do so (Tracey completed his goal of meeting Professor Oak; May, Dawn, and Iris are at least given the chance of pursuing their goals with or without Ash; and Brock at least managed to change his goal of his own free will). Let me put it another way, imagine if May was about to leave to pursue her goal in Johto, only to unexpectedly get a call from her parents revealing that Norman fell to a serious illness/injury, and thus they need her to run the gym, thus forcing her to abandon her goal as Top Coordinator so she can run the gym, would you have been very happy with how her character ended? This is EXACTLY the same scenario with Misty.

And honestly, at least Misty would have more of a reason to come back than, say, Dawn during Best Wishes. And she certainly has better chances of coming in than Serena does staying (heck, the mere NAME of Serena's goal makes it explicit that she can't continue on with Ash or even leave Kalos). And just for the record, it would be 1st Gen and/or 2nd Gen fans, since Misty, unlike her successors, actually lasted TWO generations.

Also, considering how Popplino is a Water Type, that would also most likely be Misty's starter (her goal's to become the world's greatest Water Pokémon Master, that means she obviously would go for the Water Type starter).

Also, Alola's a region dealing with more water than there is land. The only other region to have this is Hoenn, the region immediately AFTER she left. I don't think this is a coincidence, especially when the 20th Anniversary is popping up next year.

  • Digimon and Yugioh didn't keep their same characters. They were both changed. And Dragonball Saga continually added new characters to focus on even though Goku remained the main character for the most part. DBZ also gave other character a large spot light.

Misty was by FAR one the worst character in the anime saga, only being beat by Cilan, Iris, Tracey, and Cameron. Bringing Misty back will not do crap to the anime. People are stuck on her, when most people don't even care about her anymore other than a large, loud minority of Genwunners.

I wouldn't mind if Misty stayed for a hand full of episodes, but I don't think she should be one of the main characters. And why suddenly bring her back when she has had no interest in Ash and has been all over Tracey?

I'm not sure about Yugioh because I don't watch it, but Digimon is bringing out a series of movies featuring the main characters from the original series as high schoolers.

Hmm. Didn't know that. Then again, was never a fan of the original series. I always preferred Tamers.

As for Yugioh. the original main character came back in mentions and two times and then a few movies, but he never became the main character again. He might also return some in the newest arc, but again, he probably isn't a new character.

I just don't like Misty anymore. If they bring her back unless she is brought back with other characters. Similar to how they handled her in Hoenn/Battle Frontier. If they do bring her back, I think she needs a new character design that would match her manga counter part much better.

Misty was the energized yelling mom/girlfriend that helped keep the 10 year old in check. She also added the "oh that's cute" personality where Brock was the the informative care giver and Ash the adolescent "more power.. I can do anything" personality.. I don't see those personalities needed anymore..... so if they do end up reappearing, it could just be to congratulate Ash on winning the league.

I would love to see someone obsessed with a certain type of pokemon again with Ash.. maybe fairy, water, ghost, poison, ice, or rock types.

I wouldn't mind if Misty stayed for a hand full of episodes, but I don't think she should be one of the main characters. And why suddenly bring her back when she has had no interest in Ash and has been all over Tracey?

    1. Digimon and Yugioh generally replaced ALL of the Main Characters, so that's not a good example (they would only apply if Ash himself was replaced). As far as Dragon Ball Z, they kept the main cast as is, the only additions being Android 18, Dende, and Majin Buu. And even THEN, they only had a support role, and the only true new additions to the main cast were Goten and (technically) Trunks (younger and Future), and maybe Mr. Satan/Hercule.

    2. Misty was definitely not one of the worst (May, Dawn, Serena, Dent, and Cameron come far closer to meeting the "worst" category. Oh, and Brock as well.). I might as well also add that saying that it's not just genwunners who want her back (remember, she also was prevalent in Johto, which was Generation II). And for the record, she'd need to behave EXACTLY like Naru Narusegawa and the other Hinata Inn girls from Love Hina (ie, constantly beat up Ash and Brock if they so much as even look at her the wrong way or are present at the wrong place and the wrong time) in order to even come CLOSE to being among the worst characters, that as well as have her constantly behave like those Fiorello Fangirls from Princess vs Princess.

    3. Nowhere was it EVER confirmed that Misty and Tracey are an item (and I'm not a Pokeshipper anyways, so that's not even CLOSE to my motivation regarding bringing her back). In fact, the closest it ever got to actually becoming canon was when Luvdisc used attract for the purposes of their show, and that really doesn't count since it comes across as coercion rather than falling in love of their own free will.

Lastly, like her or not, she still needs to actually pursue her goal considering that unlike the other main characters who completed (Tracey and possibly Max) or are still actively pursuing their goal (Pretty much everyone else), or changing their goal of their own free will (Brock), Misty was forced to put her goal on hold, so at the very least, she needs to return so that she's actually given the chance to actually pursue her goal and not be a punching bag towards rookie trainers/rookie Pokémon. Even you have to agree with that part at least. Let me put it another way: Suppose, for example, at the end of AG, May is set to go to Johto to continue her quest to become Top Coordinator, when she receives an emergency phone call from her mom demanding she take over Norman's position as Gym Leader because he either had a serious injury or came down with a serious illness, thus forcing her to go back to Hoenn without even making any grounds on her goal. Would you say this was even remotely a good end for her? No? Well, that's EXACTLY the situation Misty's in, and whether you like her or not, you have to agree that she definitely needs to actually pursue her goal.

Here is the thing , Yugioh and Digimon aren't long term anime series like Pokemon.
They finish One series completely to create another New Series with New Protagonist in a new Universe .
If you think all Digimon anime are the same series then your are wrong ! All Digimon anime are different series in a different universe with different Protagonist.
However , Pokemon anime keeps Ash and his universe while replacing everything else.
Can you imagine Gintama with Just Gintoki while all other Character get replace ? Why Do Luffy brought his old crew back instate of going to New World with a New Crew in One Piece?
Truth is, Long term Anime like Pokemon never changes any of its major character , It survives by keeping all its older character ! Those anime ether keep all its character or Ends a series completely to start a totally Brand new Series with New protagonist.

LOL neither Misty or Serena are going to stay as main characters, that is pretty much guaranteed to happen

People also thought the exact same thing of Charizard even returning to Ash's roster on a permanent basis, yet look what happened: Come Best Wishes, Charizard is now officially an Oaked Pokémon, and thus actually PART of Ash's roster, rather than spending his time training at Charcific Valley under Lisa's care. And I'm pretty sure no one expected Jessiebelle to return in DP, yet look what happened, and people certainly never expected Brock's mom to even make an appearance at all (in the West, it was even assumed she had died). Never say never, after all. And besides, next year's the 20th anniversary, and as Famon pointed out in another thread, not many anime proceed to reach 20 years of their existence non-stop.

That said, it's pretty clear that Serena's going to leave, though (her goal practically spelled it out, what with "Kalos Queen" and all of that).

To Icylce:While its true that chances of Misty becoming main character again are highly unlikely given how little recognition or respect she was given from pokemon staff over all this years.

At same time you have to keep in mind how not everyone may feel same way about this. Maybe to you Misty was among worst characters, but to large number of older generation of fans she was one of most complex, charming and enjoyable female protagonists. Female who set foundations on which pathway for future pokemon girls to come was built upon. Played major role in pokemon series early stages of storyline development and Ash growth as character.

Likewise Misty personality was symbol of strength and independence being one of major factors scoring Misty such a big popularity to begin with, so whether people like or dislike her characterization it obviously had appeal to it to make fans attracted in first place.

To get to the point: Just because you don't feel comfortable over bringing Misty back.

Does not mean others share same opinion too.
Because many consider this character to be entertaining. Wanting to see done more with her, utilize some of that massive untapped potential advancing forward in her story. Trying to achieve dreams of becoming water master and E4 member one day(she worships Lorelei and wants to become strongest water expert in world) and enriching on show atmospohere through her antics, adventurous spirit, strong willed attitude and lot of endearing emotions she was capable of expressing.

Because at end of the day there's nothing wrong if some people thought Misty had stronger personality or liked gradual change in her personality developing as person. Turning from hostile, stubborn girl in more mature, independent and understanding character. While keeping her sarcasm, flirty side and temper expressing it in more grown up way.

There's nothing wrong that some people thought she had interesting pokemon, sad past of being viewed as nobody and outcast in family growing without parents or anyone to give her love. Or admiring her unrequited love and passion for water pokemon wanting to master their use.

Maybe from your and other people perspective; people who think Misty is more interesting girl than others are wrong or have bad taste in opinion of fans of other characters.

But its just that, matter of opinion and what you consider to be well written personality, story, breakdowns and flaws. Opinions cannot be right or wrong, they're just that. Opinions based on personal tastes.

And people who prefer other characters more shouldn't use Misty fans as excuse to justify dislike or hate toward her.

Lastly given how pokemon games and anime are celebrating 20 years of existence with emphasis being out on revisiting roots and workable concepts from past times reviving them and older glory through fresh, new light. It would be actually highly logical to capitalize on that through return of iconic, highly memorable and known characters like Misty was., Attracting large number of older fans to pokemon anime relieving their childhood memories. Not to mention given how incredibly water based new region Alola will be. Being based on Hawaii featuring islands, lot of water and aquatic areas. In that case perfect candidate to promote such landscapes, new water pokemon, water related sports and competitions would be actually Misty, Killing two flies with one stone, In both offering layout through Misty could be given new purpose and more concrete way in advancing her story through sequel. As well taking advantage of her iconic status for promotional status with how strongly affiliated with water someone like her is truly.

p.s. I don't care for shipping, but there exists no reliable and conclusive evidence that Misty feels anything other than friendship love toward Tracey. Fans who try to see something more as far as im concerned misinterpreted certain things like friend inviting other friend to come over to his house visiting it are just having wild imagination. Because unlike with Ash in Tracey case things like jealousy, blushing, defensive possessive nature, devotion and unusual concern and care implying something deeper than friendship never happened.

Nevertheless like others have said unlike Pokémon all other shows don't escape from remembering their pasts, revisiting roots and older characters bringing them back through new roles and positions. And since pokemon follows same principle like other long running anime do such as Fairy Tail, One Piece, Bleach, Inuysha, Naruto etc. In having big ongoing adventure set in same timeline and continuity. Its in least hand hypocritical and damaging for both continuity and stable character development to ignore history this much and replace Ash traveling companions like theyre disposable trash as pokemon does.

Being unfair how only Ash and Jessie, James and Meowth are allowed to stay, dewvelop and experience new adventures. While everyone else are ababndoned in past like they never matered or existed. With their impact left on Ash and story, their unfinished stories, unresolved goals and dreams, strong friendships and bonds established with Ash and others ultimately meaning NOTHING in end if were never gonna see follow up and chance that those we grew to like never return again and be of any relevance anymore.

Is that really right? I SAY NOT.

Yeah, and with the possible exception of Iris, none of her successors have quite matched up to her in terms of character. And just because something's highly unlikely doesn't mean it's impossible. If we were to use likeliness as a factor regarding whether something would happen, Charizard would not have returned to Ash's roster and thus become an Oaked Pokémon, he would have stayed at Lisa's Charcific Valley under her care, and Jessiebelle would not have made a reappearance in DP. Heck, Brock's mom would NEVER have appeared at all, especially not in the main series.

Likewise Misty personality was symbol of strength and independence being one of major factors scoring Misty such a big popularity to begin with, so your propose of her characterization needing to be revamped to be acceptable for audience makes zero sense.

Agreed there, and besides, she's barely even a Tsundere type anyhow (I've seen Tsundere types in Anime before, and they generally treat people far worse, like Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina, who would best qualify as an unrepentant domestic abuser).

To get to the point: Just because you don't feel comfortable over bringing Misty back.

Yeah, agreed there, and she definitely needs to return in order to actually accomplish that goal, or at the very least have the opportunity to complete that goal on her own terms.

Yeah, agreed with that, and quite frankly I found that kind of development far more believable anyways. More than just literally getting new personality traits without any of the old instantly for no real reason.

There's nothing wrong that some people thought she had interesting pokemon, sad past of being viewed as nobody and outcast in family growing without parents or anyone to give her love. Or admiring her unrequited love and passion for water pokemon wanting to master their use.

Agreed. If no one had a problem with Ash's Pokémon Master goal despite it having absolutely no hint at the end-game until DP (which is really kind of sad, he's supposed to be the main character, yet Misty had a far more developed goal than he did, especially when the Orange League basically nixed the idea of simply winning a Pokémon League as gaining the title), they most certainly shouldn't have a problem with Misty's goal.

Maybe from your and other people perspective people who think Misty is more interesting girl than others are wrong or have bad taste in opinion of fans of other characters.

Agreed with that (though that being said, since I see "opinions" and "lies" as the same thing, don't expect me to use the word opinion, whether for me or anyone else), especially when Misty's character's not even all that bad. I can assure you that Naru Narusegawa's FAR worse.

Yes, very much agreed. This practically SPEAKS of very big opportunities for the writers to exploit, and considering next year will be the 20th anniversary of the anime, they definitely will need to capitalize on this achievement as well. I also think, considering the collaborative effort of the writers in making things, that it's no coincidence that the upcoming generation is going to be based on Hawaii and occurring during the 20th anniversary.

Yeah, agreed on both fronts. Probably the closest to an actual verifiable hint at Orangeshipping was in Luvdisc is a Most Splendored Thing where Misty and Tracey during the play fell in love with each other. Even then, that was SOLELY due to Luverin and Caserin using attract for the purposes of the play and affecting them, which really shouldn't count as actual love or romance. Come on, even Amourshipping has more hints at being canon than Orangeshipping does, and that's one sided at best and definitely not even remotely comparable to Pokeshipping regarding actual verifiable hints.

I SAY NOT.

Yeah, fully agreed with that, and in Misty's case, it's even worse, as she's left unable to even attempt to complete her goal thanks to her sister's incompetence (though that being said, they are more competent gym leaders than Lola, that one was just a whole new level of incompetence), while most of the other cast members who left at least had the opportunity to either continue pursuing their goals until they achieve them (May, Dawn, Iris, Dent), or otherwise actually change their goals (Brock, Gary), and in one case even managed to actually COMPLETE his goal (Tracey). In fact, probably the only one who MIGHT have it even worse than Misty in that regard was Max, since unlike Misty, he's literally stuck being underage thanks to the writers' stupid insistence on keeping Ash 10.

And yes, it is extremely hypocritical to dump old characters like that especially when the intended theme of the anime and even to some extent the games is that you're supposed to form strong friendships and NOT dispose of your "friends" like tools once they are no longer of any use.

I dont understand the animes treatment of Misty

She was such an important part of Ash's first journey, and the strongest female character.

It breaks my heart that according to the producers she will never be heard from again.
