I took a whole bunch of photo's to make the above .gif lol
Couldn't really keep my hand steady enough though so there's some movement in the camera angle.

Welcome Hobby builders from around the world!

This here club is for any and all DIY building 'toy' hobbies. From Revell model kits to Lego, from Nanoblock to Ministeck and anything in between ^.^
The core requirement is that it's something that you build/assemble with your own hands!
This is a place to show of your creations and talk about new sets being released and ask/give advice/tips if possible =3

Since this is a club about hobbies that involve building things, I reckon the perfect join requirement would be to show off something you've made!
So to join merely share a photo of literally anything you made. It doesn't have to be big or imposing! If you collect Lego Brickheadz for example, those will do just fine!

So to join:
-Share a pic of something you've made.
-List/mention the DIY hobbies you do!
For example: Nanoblocks or Lego & Model building.

In the spoiler below are a couple photo's from the Lego Globe (Ideas series) shown in the .gif above, including two WIP ones. It's the most recent thing I've built:
Spoiler:

I've already shown the Lego Globe off before elsewhere though. So here's the Lego Taj Mahal I made a couple months ago (from the Architecture series):

This is a club where I belong! Count me in Rekoil!

You never ceases to amaze me. I love the globe, and animating it to show that world turning is a lovely touch! I can't believe your patience and talent. My favorite has got to be the Taj Mahal. It's truly a work of art.

Submitting a picture of something I made. This was the first pullip doll I made, so she's a little rough around the edges looking back at her. I dreww the eyebrows probably to high on the forehead, and gemstones on her head are a bit random for a rennaisance maid, but she is still pretty cute. Her name is Olivia.

I'd like to join, as well. I'm kinda on and off on making stuff and don't really have one specific thing I like to base stuff on.

Tbh I probably wouldn't have noticed the eyebrows had you not pointed them out. They are a bit high, but they don't really draw the attention when I look at the pic. My eyes first went to the little gems on her forehead and then the hair.
It looks very good to me! Looks lovely =3

Omg I have that Ho-oH too xD

Those Origami look very impressive! I was already bad at folding paper planes so Origami is probably quite impossible for me =p
I have always liked the way Origami looks though ^.^

That self-made notebook is quite interesting. Not sure I've ever seen someone make their own notebooks before =o

Just wanted to show off some of my Ministeck collection :fufu:
I've made so much of the stuff over the years lol

Mainly wanted to show some off, because I think Ministeck is not very well known abroad (heck you can't even find it in a normal store around here anymore, need to buy it online lol). It's basically a mosaic puzzle you have to assemble using a reference image. You have to push hundreds or thousands of pieces onto a special board that serves as the base.
It originally came from Germany, but idk if it's still manufactured there.

For a reference, the first one (the Titanic one) = 7.500 pieces
The Blue parrot is the smallest one from this selection and it's 1.400 pieces.
Roughly that is, as I'm using the numbers that were listed on the boxes and there's usually some leftover/excess pieces =3

Ministeck Titanic (includes a close up):

Ministeck Santa:
Spoiler:

Ministeck Pheasants (also has a closeup):
Spoiler:

Ministeck horse:
Spoiler:

Stick-it Blue Parrot:
Spoiler:

Ministeck Galleon:
Spoiler:

I have way more, this is but a portion lol
Two of the walls in my bedroom are full of the stuff (the other two walls are slanted walls unfortunately), and I got a whole bunch standing or lying around because I got no room to hang them up xD

I've recently moved and left some things behind as it's too much of a hassle to bring them all. That includes all my buildings/assembly toys, these are the ones I somehow decided to take photos of with very bad lighting. (I don't take photos too much, this is the result)

Most of them were vehicles and machines, dominoes, and cardboard city building sets. I plan on buying plastic model kits, I've been trying to find a rocket model but haven't found much success yet.

This hobby started when I was but a dwarfed seagull look a like, when my parents dragged me to the ocean's nearest school. There, they had a collection of origami that I wanted to emulate, but since little me thought it was hard I took the alternative of making my own cardboard straight from a box type of house. It eventually grew to card stacking and well... this.

Mind if I ask what material the train is made of ? I just find it a bit hard to tell based off the photo 😅
It could be plastic, but the coloring is making me wonder if it's perhaps wood or maybe cardboard instead.

Welcome to Assembly Required ^.^

The train is made of laser-cut wood that fits perfectly together (as per my experience), I bought it at Robotime as they have lots of high-quality DIYs there. It's a bit expensive there so if anything catches your interest, you should try looking for it in different online shops that sell it cheaper, be careful of fakes though.

And thank you!

Been roughly 2 months since I last made anything, but had a day off today and decided to make a Lego Technic set that I've had for a really long time and just never bothered with =p
It's supposedly 646 pieces, took me a good 3 hours ^.^

Lego Ducati Panigale:

And here's 2 older Lego Technic motorcycles I made idk when anymore =p

I haven't really done anything in a while. I tend to have my phases where I do all kinds of things followed by what is sometimes months of nothing substantial. xD

Anyone have any bigger project you want to tackle?

Just a couple of questions to get some activity back in here =3

How old were you when you first started doing a DIY toy hobby ? (if you still remember)
Is it a DIY toy hobby you still do?

How old were you when you first started doing a DIY toy hobby ? (if you still remember)

The oldest I remember actually doing as a hobby are Ministeck and K'Nex. Both of which were all the way back in elementary school at about 6-7 years old.
The Ministeck sets I did back then were a lot simpler though =P As for K'Nex, I usually just built random stuff rather than like a set or anything.
As for Lego, I didn't start that stuff as a Hobby until around 10 years old.

The Ministeck below is one of, if not the first I ever made:
Spoiler:

Just a very fun cheery pair of frogs. The box was one of those 'here's multiple example, but you can only make one' types of boxes.
I proved them wrong by making a second frog from the examples, out of White, and calling it an Albino frog =P

The 3 Ministecks below are not quite as old as the frogs, but still very old as well:
Spoiler:

Is it a DIY toy hobby you still do?

Ministeck I still do, though I tend to do bigger sets =3
K'Nex just sorta... faded out of my life tbh. The stuff you make with it is just not as pretty as the likes of Ministeck or Lego.
I don't think I even have any K'Nex stuff anymore 😅

Yes, I want to make a Pullip doll inspired by an ancient Egyptian queen. I was recently admiring photographs of the famous Nefertiti bust, and watching some documentary material about this queen's life, complete with facial reconstructions by contemporary artists of what she might have looked like. I see so many possibilities now for a doll based on her timeless beauty.

If it turns out well then I might make a Pharoah Taeyang doll to accompany her. It would be my first attempt at making a male doll. I collect lots of boy dolls, but just haven't built one yet, but I know that I can do it!

I also really want to make a doll inspired by a Japan's Heian period.

I already have the right body type. It's super pale, almost grey because I want this doll to look like she is wearing white oshiroi face powder.

I have also got the perfect wig with the appropriate hairstyle. It's a glossy black one that's in a hime cut-- I was overjoyed to find something so specific on eBay. I will work perfectly to give the doll that medieval look I am searching for.

The real trick though is going to be dressing the doll, because I want her to wear a junihitoe, and I have never seen such a thing for sale for the measurements of a Pullip, Barbie or Monster High. I have seen kimonos or the red hakama and white kosodee that a Shinto shrine maid might wear, but nothing quite like this. I think I might have to sew. Currently, I don't have the ability, but my mom says she can teach me, if I really want to know how to do it. She can sew really well, on the level of professional costume construction and design. When I showed her pictures of what I want, she didn't seem phased, she said this looked very simple to actually make.

She would have made it herself, but because of the doll small scale it can't be done with her sewing machine, and since my mom is handicapped today it would exhaust her to do the repetitive sewing motions all by hand at this point in life. She says she can show me exactly what I need to do though. I look forward to learning, and ordering some nice fabric for the project. Unfortunately, in bad economy some of the go-to arts and crafts stores or fabric shops have gone out of business in our local community :( I can buy some nice materials though from Etsy when I get paid through, and still support a small business that way.

How old were you when you first started doing a DIY toy hobby ?

Probably about 5 years old building with lego sets, I remember hotel resorts, homes and gardens, airplanes etc. I was fascinated by blocks as a kid, and my thought that maybe I would grow up to be an architect one day, because whenever I saw them anywhere, like a play area at the pediatrician's office that had building sets in the waiting room-- I would immediately start constructing something.

It it a DIY toy hobby you still do?

Alas, no. We moved to California when I was 8, and a lot of my Lego sets didn't come with us because we couldn't carry all that stuff on a plane in a suitcase. A few things like some sets of clothes, bedding and a handful of favorite stuffed animals and dolls were later shipped to us in boxes by relatives. However, because we were now living in small studio apartments as my mom went back to school we couldn't bring our whole house. Some things my mom donated to the less fortunate since we couldn't take it all with us, which was a good idea, and other things we owned like some of our furniture and her art were either left in safekeeping with friends like in their homes and garages, or put into storage centers. I was under the impression that my blocks were stored somewhere, I remember the sad task of having to disassemble things that I had to made so that they could be packed, and yearned to have use them again one day when we had more space, but when we finally where in a home environment where we could have more after a few years, I never found my Lego sets, so either my mom gave them away, or the boxes with them just got lost during the move-- I am thinking the latter, because my mom knew how crazy I was about them, so I don't think she would have donated that without asking me. Also, the storage center and moving company we used were really negligent and bad, and lost other things that they had to compensate us for, and make mix-ups where we got items that belonged to other families by accident in some cases, and they probably got some of our stuff. So after so much time going without my blocks, I just moved onto other hobbies, but seeing all of these awesome creations by Rekoil is making me nostalgic for those days :)

I used to do Lego stuff, as well, when I was a kid. We had a bunch of sets, including houses, racing cars and a bunch of these archeology sets including a large pyramid. Unfortunately, some stuff got lost in a car accident. But at least most was still there. I think the large majority of Lego pieces is still at my mother's house. I still have these two, however:
Spoiler:

I don't really do Lego anymore. Instead I like to try my luck with relatively cheap materials. Origami is pretty accessible in that regard; only requiring some piece of paper. xD

I've been trying to find interesting diagrams of origami dolls. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything that I liked. Most people just ended up using glue or any other sort of adhesive to keep things together. But I wanted to find a way that just uses paper. That's why I started whipping up a sort of prototype of my own:

I was just wondering, would either of you be interested in some sort of friendly build competition or show-off?
I was thinking we could could do something along the lines of a once per season contest of sorts, where we share a build that fits with that season? Could also include stuff that's associated with a particular holiday in that season, so for example Halloween in Autumn or Christmas in Winter or Easter in Spring.

We could either go with making something new or just anything that fits the season's theme that you already have, as I don't feel comfortable with people potentially having to go buy stuff for this.
You'd submit an entry for it and at the end of the season we could all vote on which we like the most; though you wouldn't be able to reuse the same build for the same season next year round to keep things fresh.

We could keep track of who wins the most seasons in a year and then I could get a small present for the winner in the shape of a Amazon or a Nintendo eshop gift card.

Just an idea for something we could do together =3
The idea is a bit rough around the edges atm, but do let me know what you think / if you like the idea / are interested in something like this. 😀

While the idea is nice and all I really am not a fan of competitions, especially when there's rl prices attached to it. I'm not even sure if I had the time if we did something like that. Maybe if more people were to participate we could figure something out?

Was waiting to finish something new before posting again... but I keep putting off finishing the Lego Vincent Van Gogh' Starry Nights for some reason...
I also still need to make those flower sets.... 😅

So here's something old and dusty I haven't shared yet =3

The Lego Achitecture Great Wall Of China =D

Before I show mine off, I'll link a pic of the box, just to show what a single set of this looks like:
Spoiler:

And now here's mine... which is 4 of these sets attached to each other =D

Spoiler:

While looking up the pic of the box I saw what these sets are sold for nowadays... they cost more than twice of what I paid for them back then D=
No further wall expansion for me xD

Well the prizes were just an option. We could make it a title instead, or something else entirely.
I just wanted to try doing something together/ with each other, somehow, but this club is pretty small, and I feel like only 1 reply to the idea tells me all I need to know >.>

I was just reading about wonders of the world, and have gotten a kick out of seeing the Lego great wall of China. This is exciting!

Was wondering if it would be okay to showcase toys that someone else constructed on this special occasion? I found a YouTube video that I think pokemon fans should see. This player has conceived of the coolest fakeball ever, called the ditto ball. This is no ordinary pokeball, but a unique creation that will change it's appearance, depending on which pokemon you capture with it! This talented soul has built physical, life size ditto balls, showing what it would look for every single Kanto pokemon once inside. I am amazed my how much creativity, time, work and patience went into this toy project, and think a creative enterprise of this magnitude is worth a share.

I really hope this youtuber continues making balls as a series, and eventually showcases a ditto ball for the pokemon of the other 8 regions.

Do you toymakers like any of these examples, and want to use a ditto ball to capture a pokemon yourself?

Me? Of course!!! How did Game Freak not think of this? I'm trying to narrow down my favorites. I really liked Charizard's pokeball with wings, and the Clefairy one that includes tail, ears and tuft of hair! Gastly's looked cool, loved the black and sorta gray laveder color scheme and the dark clouds to make it look gaseous, it even has eyes! It's subtle, but I think goldeen's color scheme makes a pretty ball, I like the faded coral splotches. Snorlax really cute, looks like something I would buy for a cat. Shout out to dragonair, definition of pretty pokeball, gets a gem on it, unicorn-like horn and those feathery wings--beautiful.

Kinda thought I had replied to this tbh... I remember watching the video, but it's so long ago I had to watch it again xD

Raichu, Clefairy., Ninetales, Rapidash, Starmie, Tauros, Articuno, Dratini/Dragonair & Articuno are the standouts for me.

Same person also did a video for all the gen 2 mons btw:

I like the Chikorita line, Feraligatr, Hoothoot/Noctowl, Bellossom, Espeon, Misdreavus, Ho-Oh from these.

I finally went and made some time to finish of my Lego Ideas 'Vincent van Gogh - The Starry Night':
It had been lying around unfinished for roughly half a year now rofl
Spoiler:

And I took a couple pics of some older Lego Ideas sets I have. First the 'Pop-up Book':

And the 'Ship in a Bottle':
Spoiler:

Both of these were extremely dusty and I only did a quick wipedown on them xD
