A hack that's great for gen wunners who want to move on but can't because everything newer is too complicated.

..joking aside, this is a really nifty hack. I wasn't aware something as advanced as the GB player was possible in a fan hack.

[*]The Gamer trainer type has been reverted to Gambler, with all accompanying text changed as well.

Hi Richter, I really love this hack, it's amazing. Just a small note about the gambler, in the hack the text shows as "GamerER would like to fight."

  • Thanks again everyone for trying out Throwback! It really does put a smile on my face to know that others are enjoying it.

That again? I wouldn't be surprised if that issue popped up again. The various patches I'm juggling can bring back various issues like that. For example, this would be a mismatch with changes made to both the Extras and Decapitalization patches. If you patched the two separately, something like this is bound to happen, but if you used the whole patch it's something that I'll have to fix. I'm busy with things at the moment, so I won't be able to get at this immediately. I actually have a whole trove of bugs and oversights that I'll want to fix before uploading an updated patch.

Edit: It looks as if you patched the Extras and Decapitalization patches separately. The full patch works as it should, and, unfortunately, so does patching the things individually. That's the issue with patching. When two different patches make different alterations to the same part of the code, things don't turn out well.

  • Version 3.9.1b Bug Fix Release

The bug fix update is out! There were a couple of reports that I couldn't confirm, but that didn't stop me from patching some things up. Some of these fixes are for some particularly embarrassing things. Have at it!

Richter I've sent you a lot of suggestions through PM from yesturday to today, and you've just GOT TO READ my idea for obtaining Celebi! Thanks again for allowing us to enjoy your hack.

  • So, i've decided to start a New Game and this time i've found the Celebi Giveaway Patch.
I've used it, but when i was about to trade the Celebi to my main save, the trade window said "This pokémon can't be traded now" :/ ...

    EDIT:
Nvm, maybe it's because i need to get the National Dex first.

That's my bad. I should have considered that before actually going through with it. The fact that no one has brought up the issue until now shows how much use it's been getting, even from myself.

I'm overhauling the entire hack right now, including the Celebi stuff. There's a few changes I want to make to that specific patch, particularly those that'll make it so you won't need to use a provided save game to properly use it. Any future release for this project as a whole won't happen for awhile, but I might put up a fix for that in the meanwhile. I'm not sure if I will yet, though, since it doesn't seem to be of high priority to anyone.

Hi again. I'm not sure if it was intentional but on the press-start screen, there are certain parts of Charizard that are lightly colored compared to the one on the original Fire Red's press-start screen. Most noticeable differences are in the Charizard's left wing, legs, and tail.

The Charizard and Venusaur are part of the same sprite, and as such share the same palette. The color differences are a result of having to limit the number of colors used in each part of it to ensure that both characters look serviceable within the limitations of 16 colors.

  • Btw, shouldn't the Trainer Type be "Gambler" instead of "GamBLER"?
    QrqfvUV.png

    EDIT:
One more thing, in the Catch 'Em All Locations Wordpad File you didn't put the Safari Zone ones :(

    EDIT2:
I think i've got most of them tho.
I didn't got yet the Super Rod ones because i didn't got it yet, i'll do that Route after beating Koga.
This are the ones i've got (and remember that i've saw)

Walking: Nidoran♂, Nidorino, Nidoran♀, Nidorina, Venonat, Venomoth, Paras, Parasect, Rhyhorn, Pinsir, Sycther, Tauros, Chansey & Exegcute

Fishing (Good Rod): Krabby, Poliwag, Goldeen

    EDIT3:
Can Eevee evolve into Espeon and/or Umbreon unlike FR/LG or do we need to trade them from R/S/E like how it happens in FR/LG?

Are you using just the complete patch, or are you patching separate things at separate times? If it's the latter, these kinds of results are to be expected with the decapitalization patch.

Thanks for posting those for others to see! FYI, you could always load up the hack in AMap v1.92 and check the Wild Pokémon tables for each part of that area.

And I'm sorry for not having that section in the Wild Locations document. Back then, it was due to part pedantic reason, part excuse. I listed in the locations document that it's only for "wild locations", something that the Safari Zone wouldn't really count for. In actuality, I didn't include it because each area had enough unique Pokémon in it to where one or more section of each area (land, Surfing, fishing) would use more than one line of text. Yeah, I know... :|

The Catch 'em All part of the hack implements the RTC. This lets you obtain Espeon and Umbreon via their canonical methods (assuming you're not playing on an actual GBA).

  • Welp, it was a really nice hack, it's the very first time i ever fill a Pokedex by myself <3
    xP8Oiqt.png

Note: Yes, the Kanto Dex, the National Dex would probably be a bigger pain in the butt so i won't even bother.

Thank you so much, it was a really nice experience and playing again as Red with his classic costume was really fun, i prefer it a lot more than his FR/LG costume xD

Out of curiosity, does this hack include the physical and special split? I did not see it listed as a main feature on the front page so I was just curious.

It does not as far as I know.

No, thank you! Seeing people play my hack to completion (Kanto or otherwise) makes me elated. I'm really happy that you enjoyed your time playing with it.

As it is, there is no Physical/Special split in this hack. Adding it breaks compatibility with the official games when doing link battles. Note that this goes for all hacks that use it, not just mine.

You're still free to add it in yourself, if you'd like. The actual split is a patch, and I made an accompanying patch in the same thread that changes the move affinities for you.

Hi, I found a bug where the legendary beasts keep returning to their 2nd location after capturing or killing them. Not sure if this next one is a bug, but Mew in Faraway Island does not return if you flee from the battle with it.

The two things you listed are actually related. Awhile back I got a report on a similar thing happening with Mew. I patched that up, not thinking that it also applied to the Johto legendary trio. I guess I was wrong. I'll put up a fix for that ASAP.

The behavior as it is with Mew was the intended behavior: When the battle ends, so does the opportunity to get it (assuming you didn't catch it in battle). Now that I actually tried running from a battle, I see that that's not actually the case.

DOUBLE EDIT: Now I'm confused as to how it's supposed to be. I guess that's how it is with FR/LG but not the other games? I'm not sure. I'll fix the first thing, but leave the second thing as it is until I figure out what I want to do with that situation as a whole, not just with Mew.

TRIPLE EDIT: It's not related. I just implemented that in an incredibly stupid way the last time I edited it. I wanted to save on flags, but I guess I can't in this case.

Yeah I noticed their scripts were shorter compared to original legendaries' scripts. I also noticed that Entei's script had altered Mewtwo's script in that Mewtwo reappears after killing/capturing it. I tried fixing Entei's script myself and I could only get the either of two results- Entei reappears regardless of death/capture/fleeing, or it never reappears regardless of death/capture/fleeing. I was aiming to make it so that it would not reappear upon its death/capture but reappear if the player ran from it..

I was waiting for a little bit to make the update post so that school would be out across the U.S. by then, but since you responded already I'll post it now.

Mew...two? I didn't change anything with Mewtwo. The changes you tried to make on your end must have been the wrong ones. Regardless, both issues are fixed properly now. The update's in the OP.
