  • The Medal system... oh right. I tried it out on my first save for White2. Figured it was nice and proceded to just play and talk to the guy at times.
I haven't really looked up any specifics for the medals, but on my current save I've yet to talk to the guy in PokeCenter and I've already finished beating the tower in White Forest. >8D
Guess I'm just waiting for the New Years to see how many medals I can hoard up all at once.

  • Personally I like it- gives a much-needed sense of direction in normally haphazard post-game Pokemon. I mean, in the original B/W, half the Unova region is left unexplored when you defeat Ghetsis, trainers with Pokemon 20+ levels higher than yours pop up, routes that, unless you read the walkthroughs are a pain to navigate, etc, etc. In short, you don't know what to do. Medals grant you certain (sometimes impossible) goals to work for, reset a few times in ragequit, and hopefully reach. They also give a sense of achievement, especially in the meaningless pursuit of Catching them All (which I am still working at) or the not so meaningless one of finding a Shiny (which I have actually succeeded in! Shiny Sandile on route 4 !).
The only annoying thing is that I keep imagining an 'Achievement Unlocked' banner materializing on the bottom of the screen when I receive a medal... too much console gaming, perhaps?

I actually found a Shiny Audino yesterday. What a great time to land a crit. I had a feeling there'd be some medal attached to it, and I guess you only get it when capturing the Shiny?

For the first time ever I might use AR to generate a Shiny encounter to make up for it. I normally don't as I dislike this being doable, but when the game insists on knocking them out for you, I believe in second chances.

(NOTE: This is NOT the Lv.100 Shiny Audino I got in trade.)

Last I checked I have 51. I'm not actively seeking out each medal but for now I'd rather get competitively viable mons through Hidden Hollows before doing this to a great extent. ;(

  • I don't really like this, I got a lot of them without even trying or realizing I was completing medal missions or whatever they're called. Plus the Medal guy is standing in between the Nurse Joy tile and the PC, which is a small yet annoying thing sometimes I guess

I'm not really going to actively pursue these, but I guess they're nice for people unlike me.

I concur that the place he stands is quite...inconvenient. He could have been better placed, such as to run into as you get in front of the PC so you don't accidentally run past the PC, or even to the right of Nurse Joy instead.

  • It's neat I suppose, and gives you an extra thing to work towards.

Tbh though, I just get them randomly without trying too much. Kind of like Xbox360 achievements for me, lol.

I just hit 50 at Undella Town. The one I really made the effort to get was using Struggle, which was easily doable with a grass type doing training in the wild (Leech Seed FTW!).

I really like the medal system as well! I like how GameFreak implemented this new system because it gives the trainer something to do after they complete the game, if they haven't already collected all of the medals during their quest (which is highly unlikely). Some of these medals are hard too, like defeating the Elite Four with only one Pokemon. If you don't trade a Pokemon from another game, this could take many hours to train a Pokemon to be able to defeat all of the Elite four plus the Champion. And the 100 fun fest one took forever to complete as well. I really like the medals, they are like achievements except that there are more of them than the average achievement on an Xbox 360 game. Some of them are harder to, and some are more fun to get! I really like the design for a lot of them as well. They're like mini badges haha. My favorite medal is the supreme challenger one, the crown and the colors are nice. I also really like the colors of the aquamarine medals. I hope that GameFreak will bring back the medal system in future iterations.

Good luck in retrieving all of the medals. If you need any, I will be more than happy to help.

Unfortunately, some of the medals will be hard to link up for. Even psyence won't help me. :D I'm going to concentrate on getting all Pokémon and clearing a whole load of medals there, then Pokéstar Studios, then we'll see.

  • Currently on my Black 2 I have 50 medals already, I got most of them in one go.

I did enjoy this feature cos it helped us want to complete more goals, and I plan on doing so. Also, I love collecting things so it was definitely something I wanted.

The ones I have right now (included in the spoiler):

  • I like medals, but I don't go crazy over collecting them all. Of course, when I beat the game, it gives me something to do. :P I haven't really payed attention to how many I have or anything, haha. But apparently I save a lot (And I do, too! xD), because I got a medal for saving over 100 times.

I find the Noneffective Artist medal's description funny though, personally:
"A consolation medal for trainers who made the cute mistake of using noneffective moves"
(For your information, Pokemon, Noneffective moves aren't always bad if you use them correctly~!"

I love this medal system. It gave the game the in-game equivalent of achivements, which added more things to do in the game. It's also like that with the habitat -thing I forgot the name of. They added a lot more to do in-game.

And actually, for that shiny achivement,

  • I don't remember how many I have, but Medals are pretty fun. Especially pre-game, when I was just minding my business just playing through the story, then the medal person appears as a nice surprise to give me some medals. The medals were like achievements to be won, and as you can see from other posters on this thread, it got people to try and get all the medals. It is definitely interesting, but I don't think I'll strive to get all medals until I complete my national. And finish the story.
