you are going out! It might be a nice meal with the family, a house party, clubbing, or whatever. The point is that you want to look and feel your best! The event isn't formal, although smart-casual will be fine if you want to dress that way.

My question to you, OVP, is how do you get ready? Obviously the first thing you're going to do is have a shower. What type of shampoo and body wash do you use? Once you're done, you'll want to do all the other stuff that needs doing before getting dressed and going out. Do you have a shave, put on deodorant (bonus points: spray or roll-on and scented or non-scented?), put on some cologne or perfume, or anything along those lines? Then there's your hair. What do you do with it, if anything? And then there's what you actually wear. You want to look good and feel comfortable, so what are you going to wear? And finally, how long has this whole process taken you?

I think that's about it, but you can add other stuff if you think I missed it. Fire away!

edit: more bonus points! After all this, how do you feel? Do you think the night will be great after you've put in so much effort getting ready, or do you feel overdone if you've gone to more trouble than you usually would?

I use Garnier shampoo and idk what kinda body wash lmao. I usually just get whatever sounds like it'll be good for my skin when I go out and buy a new one. And hell yeah I put on deodorant. I'm not letting you smell my sweat (even though it's cold now and sweating isn't gonna happen). Hair can um...it actually looks okay if I mess with it while it's wet then let it dry on its own. Sometimes. If it dries a certain way haha. And for what I'm wearing, I'm just gonna wear something comfortable, but make it look nice. Throw some accessories in there like a scarf and I'm golden, snazzy, and fancy. This probably took me...15-20 minutes. I get ready really quickly. I always get to places kinda early too. lol

The night better go good if I put in so much labor time into looking sexy. lol

Razor Leaf I'm not telling you about my shower

Usually I shower the night before actually, because I have really thick hair and it takes a long time to dry so I like to give it the entire night and then sometimes it's STILL not dry. I have a bunch of fruit-scented stuff that I always use to shower. Preferably pomegranate scented but sometimes I run out and have passion fruit or orange or something like that. Immediately after I get out the shower I brush my hair so it straightens as it dries, and I'd probably bring my brush with me while I get ready so I can keep brushing it to make sure it dries as straight as possible.

Theeeen I would go get dressed, probably I would wear skinny jeans (one of my nicer pairs) and a shirt that looks nice on me, idk which one though. Maybe an ND shirt. AND I USE ROLL-ON DEODORANT MORE POINTS YES. I don't wear perfume though, cause I'm lazy. Same with jewelry and accessories - I like the idea of wearing it but I'm too lazy to actually go through with it. I'm hoping that it isn't cold in this scenario cause I don't really have any nice jackets at all so I'm assuming it's not.

The last question reminded me of when I went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra a few years back. My mom insisted we dress up fancy, so we did and got there and most people were in jeans. But we still felt fabulous because we had spent so much time dressing up so it didn't matter. :3

I use Selsen Blue shampoo because...dandruff. >__< It sucks, and I hate it, and it makes me self conscious, lol. And the shampoo barely works. xD After the shower, I typically shave if need be, which is usually the case, lol. Then I brush my hair, and try my darnedest to make it look good, which typically fails. :\ Then deodorant, roll on, and whatever one I happened to buy at the store. Right now, I have like, Ocean Breeze I think. xD Then I brush my teeth and a am self conscious about bad breath as well, so I brush for like, an hour (that is only slightly exaggerated. >__>) Then I get dressed for whatever event it is. I only have one formal outfit, and even that is just a black and goldish shirt with black jeans, lol. If it isn't formal, then just my favorite printed button up shirt and my best pair of blue jeans.

Oh, and I typically make sure to clean my glasses. xD Nothing bugs me more than when dandruff gets on my glasses, and I have to take care of it in front of people. >__< So I make sure they are as clean as can be before I leave so that I don't have to worry as much, lol.

If I wanna look my best friday night, we're gonna start this getting ready party thursday night. I take my shower thursday night and wash my hair, I use ~sensitive skin soap~ since my skin is too sensitive for regular body wash and then I get out. I then go to bed and resume and friday morning and afternoon activities.

THEN. Friday night, since my crazy curly hair will be dried by this point, I can now straighten it and make it manageable. After that I put on some eyeliner, put on my outfit which consists of skinny jeans, a sweater, my boots, a bracelet, a necklace, a pair of earrings, and if it's chilly out (and it is now) i'll add my scarf.

Yes, I feel fine putting effort into what I wear. I actually like taking time to look nice when I go out anywhere so this is my usual routine. Although I only straighten my hair when I wanna look super nice. My curly hair is getting better to tame since it's getting longer, but still.

This whole thing accumulated probably takes an hour or so >_> I get ready verrrrrrrry slow, especially in the morning.

I prefer to use the Axe body wash and Old Spice 2 in 1 for my skin when showering (Yes I know I'm cheap.) then shave whatever facial hair I have clean off which takes around a minute or 2 at the absolute most with my current razor.

When I'm going to somewhere like a party or get together I put on either blue or black jeans with a gray zipped up jacket with a t-shirt and chain necklace underneath.

I like to take my time when preparing though since when I focus myself on a certain task I usually get done within 2 to 5 minutes at the very most since I move like lightning most of the time lol.

Before a party, I take a bath, then decide what clothes would look good on me for the occasion (usually a T shirt and pants (not jeans)). Whenever I feel like it, I shave to make myself look good.

Shower first. I don't have any special shampoos or body washes, so I just do like I normally do. (Right now I have volumizing shampoo/conditioner set and some pomegranate mango body wash. Also have some Bath and Body Works Midnight Pomegranate stuff too. BBW is one of my guilty pleasures. ;~;) Then I blow-dry my hair so it stays straight and awesome. Most of the time I actually put hairspray on although it really has no use oncesoever as I don't style my hair. Just makes it shiny and somewhat stiff.

The most special part of the process is putting on makeup. It's a real rare occasion because I'm just too lazy to wear makeup on a daily basis. But even then I'm really simplistic. I don't know how to use blush properly, so I just put on foundation, then mascara, then eyeshadow, then lipstick. Even then, it's still understated, but at least I don't look like a complete mess for a change.

After that I bother to get into decent clothes. Nice shirt, jeans or skirt depending on where I'm going, a pair of heels, and I'm good to go. Oh, and the deodorant -- I'm a scented roll-on kind of person. And if I don't feel clean enough or just want to smell more, right now I have some BBW body spray (also Midnight Pomegranate lol) if I really feel like it. Usually I'm good with just having a shower though. The final touch is adding earrings and a necklace, whatever looks best with that outfit.

God, even when I do dress up I'm so boring. :p Half of the problem is not knowing how to apply makeup properly or do awesome stuff with my hair...

I shower in the morning, so I'll just wash my face before tossing on new makeup again. Dress depends on the occasion; usually it's a metal show at a bar, so anything from a dress and fishnets to a band shirt and jeans will fly. My leather jacket goes with either. Makeup takes 45-60 minutes. I have curly hair so I "arrange" it in the morning and just hope for the best come night-time. No patience for styling.

I don't have to do anything at all. I just look amazing and radiate positivity and confidence always...

When I shower before going out, my secret is to use my sister's shower products lol. Since I own nothing girly enough to leave any sort of scent, I use my sister's body wash that is scented to smell like some sort of fruit (guava, if memory serves?) and my shampoo is strawberry scented also (lmao, this wasn't my choice, my mother went crazy with the Avon book and was all "here, have some strawberry shampoo!"

I don't bother to shave because that's something I do in the mornings and shaving again just because I'm going out seems like it would be making a bigger deal out of the whole 'shaving' thing than it really needs to be.

Since I love bonus points, I'll divulge that my deodorant is spray-on, though I honestly had no idea that such thing existed as 'non-scented deodorant'. What's the point of deodorant if there's no smell to it? Does it not defeat the purpose? As for cologne, I don't use that because I'm not yet in my forties and desperate for sex.

My hair. I spend at least five minutes in the mirror with hair gel getting it to sit right, because if I just leave it flat it looks gross and like I haven't tried anything. So I tend to make it go up at the front to make me look taller than the monster I already am lol.

In Summer, I always wear one of my nerd shirts with either a pair of denim shorts or cargo shorts. I don't do short-shorts, so they always go at least to my knees lol. In Winter, I usually wear my black jeans, one of my nerd shirts (either my slytherin shirt, my ravenclaw shirt, my 1up mushroom shirt, my big bang theory shirts or my power ranger shirt) and a black jacket. I don't know why, but I love black in Winter.

But no matter the weather, I always wear my Converse shoes. It's a custom in Australia to wear thongs (sandals, if you're American) but I refuse to do this. I can't stand them. I'm so unAustralian.

It always turns out better when I put effort into my appearance, because if I don't bother then I don't feel good about myself for the whole night, no matter what it is I'm doing.

I use Cetaphil non-soap cleanser for both my hair and body since my skin reacts badly to regular soap and shampoo. And I have to take baths... dermatologist's orders.

I'll use non-scented deodorant, since the perfumes also cause allergic reactions. No cologne for that same reason. I'll make sure any stubble on my face is shaved off.

As for clothes, depends on the occasion, but I'll want to dress to impress... so at the very least a button up shirt layered over a lightweight T-shirt, along with some nice pants.

Total prep time, about an hour with at least half of that taken up by the bath.

First I'll take a shower-- Which usually takes about 45 minutes because I get lost in thought. I use this horrible girly smelling shampoo, and Irish Spring soap. Then, I just put on deodorant, the roll-on kind that's Old Spice scented. I can't use cologne because I'm somewhat allergic.

Then I do my hair, which depends on if this event is inside or outside. If it's outside, I'm just going to wear my hat the whole time so I just comb my hair back. And if this event is inside then I actually do my hair, because I always take my hat off when I go inside. Doing my hair is pretty simple. I just comb my hair back like usual, and put some pomade in it to keep it slicked back. It's a little less comfortable though, because within about an hour the pomade makes my hair feel really nasty.

Lastly, I go upstairs and get dressed. First I put on my glasses, my watch, and my ring. And of course I'd wear a suit, as usual. Probably, I'd wear my favorite three piece suit, the grey one, with a white shirt and black tie. It's probably too fancy for whatever the event would be, but I always overdress anyways. xD

I really don't go to much more trouble getting ready to go out than I normally do. It takes me about an hour to get ready, like usual. So I really don't feel any different about myself than I usually do. Although, suffice it to say I'd feel really weird if I didn't go through all this effort.

Of course start with a shower and I usually use Garnier shampoo with some kind of bar of soap for my body. I always feel slimy after using body wash so I stick to soap. Dry off/blow dry my hair. Straighten my hair unless I feel like curls. Next is picking out something to wear. Which no matter what the occasion I always find myself wanting to dress my best so I'll usually wear jeggings, boots/flats, nice shirt, and maybe a scarf if the weather is cold enough for it. Right after that I'll look through my jewelry and I'll always put on a pair of earrings at the least. Sometimes I like to wear a ring and earrings and on a very rare occasion I'll wear a bracelet and earrings. I never wear necklaces though for some reason idk why! Then I finish by putting on a little foundation and then my deodorant. Oh and maybe a spray of perfume if I really feel like it.

Anyway takes about an hour if I start from shower phase, but I usually take a shower the night before to save time for when I go out so in that case maybe 30 or 20 minutes. It's the hair drying process that takes so long. :(

Because I tend to wear a shirt and jeans for pretty much everything, I normally don't feel the need to change if I'm going out for a night on the town. I'll still have a shower, though, in which I use a combination of Dove for Men shower gel and some variant of soap to wash my body, Head and Shoulders shampoo and conditioner for my hair, and Arm & Hammer toothpaste for my teeth. Unless my facial hair has decided to speed up for some reason, I only need to shave in the morning. I do nothing with my hair - as per usual - and put on my usual deodorant after said shower. And... that's pretty much it. The whole process tends to take about 15-20 minutes, which is just long enough for me.

First thing's first, I bring my laptop into the bathroom and sit it next to the sink and near the closet. I do this to listen to music while I shower. It's much more enjoyable because I like to dance while I'm in the shower, and it's easier to dance if there's music. In the past, I also enjoyed the occasional Pokémon battle.

Okay for the shower, I use whatever shampoo we have (right now I think it's Suave, I don't really pay attention. The only shampoo I really have a problem with is Tressumé), and bar soap. I prefer bar soap because I like the more drier side skin that it leaves behind over body wash. When I get done, I dry off and dry my hair just enough so that it's still damp. Then I put on deodorant and get dressed (not in what I'm wearing to where I'm going). Then I brush my teeth. Then I do my hair.

My hair is something that requires a bit of effort, since it doesn't always cooperate with me. I put some hair glue or wax or whatever the hell it is on my palm, rub my hands together and then attack my hair. When I do this, I usually try to make my bangs stand up and the top a bit messy. I don't know why because I'm going to mess it up in a second anyway. After some struggling, when I get it right, I'll blowdry it. When that's done, I'll take a clean dry shirt or a towell and mess it up. When that's done, I check to see if I like it. If I don't, I'll mess it up until I do. If I do, I'll clean up the bangs with some more of that glue or whatever and then I'll lock it into place with some hairspray. My hair ultimately ends up looking like Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother.

Then I go to my bedroom and put on some manufactural destroyed jeans, a small shirt, and some plaid. I'll button the plaid shirt about halfway up, and then I'll put on a braclet and begin searching for socks. Once I find them, I'll put them on and put my shoes on, and then go back to the bathroom and primp until it's time to go (if I'm going with a friend and they're picking me up) or put my headphones on and run around the house screaming and singing after about two or three minutes of primping. By the time I leave, I'm feeling confident and end up being in a very good mood for my adventure!

I use whatever shampoo we have when I shower. I sometimes do have music on via a laptop to help psyche myself up. I use bar soap cause that's the only soap we have. After my shower, I dry myself up with a towel and then spray some deodorant on my armpits and spray some cologne underneath my neck. I only shave if the event is really important to me.

I usually try to slick my hair back with a brush cause I think that looks pretty sinister and stuff. My hair usually turns out to be a mess though. It can be covered up with a cowboy hat that I wear but I don't always take that with me. As for clothing, I pretty much always rock and roll with my black attire consisting of dress trousers, a button up shirt, a stainless steel watch, sunglasses, a pair of loafers and leather gloves and of course, my overcoat. If it's particularly cold, I'll swap the shirt for a jumper and throw a scarf into the mix. If I am wearing a shirt, I like to do most of the buttons up but leave the top few undone and flick the collar upwards and outwards. I sometimes take my katanumbrella with me too but it depends on where I'm headed.

I give myself a look in the mirror, straighten myself up, do a couple of poses - cause I am quite vain - then leave.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhE2Rgw5934#t=2m53s

That pretty much surmises the stuff I wear and whatnot.

Anyway it usually takes me around half an hour to get ready to head out.

Yup. definitely going to shower. Clear for men for me. has a cool feeling for the hair and such. Music while taking a bath is also a good thing. Something from Bamboo or Bruno Mars is good. Afterwards, I will shave if there is already something to shave. The put on deodorant (roll-on non scented), and perfume. Lacoste perfume is perfect for me. for the hair: nah. just a run with my hand is enough. No combing or such. Though I''ll put a gel if I;m in the mood. I'll be wearing long pants, and a polo shirt. That's my comfy pair. For my feet, my Converse will do. This whole process will take me probably 10 - 15 minutes.

I usually try on about ten different shirts, decide if its worth it to wear shorts to the bar & deal with the comments/jokes and make sure my unibrow is taken care of. I always keep it super casual so I'll go out in a normal t shirt and my khaki shorts. I have really nice legs so I like to show them off. And I don't feel like smelling so deodorant is always a requirement.
