Nintendo Direct confirmed one of the most speculated rumors on June 11; It was finally confirmed that the long-rumored Fairy type existed! (Discuss it here)
Along with this announcement, it was revealed at last that Sylveon, along with other existing Pokémon (Such as Gardevoir, Marill, and Jigglypuff) all will be Fairy typed!
We currently know that Fairy type moves will be super-effective against Dragon types. Other type matches up regarding the Fairy type have not officially been revealed.
Two Fairy typed moves have been revealed: Sylveon will learn Moonblast, which will lower the target's Special Attack, while Gardevoir will learn Fairy Wind.
New Characters and English Names!
Names were released for the neighbors/protagonists: The male is named Calem and the female is named Serena. It's not known for sure if these will be the official names for the protagonists themselves, but we will see!
The first Gym Leader was revealed to be Viola, and her gym is located in Santalune City. She is a Bug type trainer.
In addition to the protagonist you don't choose, there will be an additional three rivals named Tierno, Trevor and Shauna. You will encounter them along your journey!

E3 confirmed that walking diagonally was now a thing, however it still stuck with a grid format for the most part.
Pokémon-amie was revealed. It is a new bonding system with your Pokémon, where you can do various things to bond with them! (What do you think about it?)
Two new kinds of battles: Sky Battles and Hordes! Sky Battles will be for Flying type Pokémon and Levitate users to fight it out in the sky, while Hordes will be you versus a large group of Pokémon all at once. (Sky Battle discussion is here and Horde discussion is here, come participate!)

The Team, The Professor, Pokémon, And More -- July News Round-Up!
Many of the things fans have been speculating the most about have been revealed this month! Let's take a deeper look in, shall we?
The Villians -- Team Flare
One of the biggest topics of speculation has been revealed: This generations evil team is not Team DNA or something seemingly to do with genetics in its namesake, but Team Flare!
Their main motive is to become rich and make money. What methods the will take to do so we aren't quite sure of (although they are interested in making money off of reviving fossils!)
How Pokémon themselves will come into play for Team Flare's plans isn't known yet. Will they be like Team Rocket and try to steal and sell them? Will they just use them as another tool instead of a commodity in themselves? Discuss it here!
Gym Leaders and the Professor!
This month's issue of CoroCoro gave us two new Gym Leaders to speculate about: Grant and Clemont. Although we don't know their types, we do know a few things!
Grant is an athlete who is into all sorts of sports such as mountain biking and rock climbing.
Clemont is a lover of science, and likes to invent things. He has a little sister named Bonnie.
Many fans were speculating that perhaps we would have another female professor this generation, but alas that is not the case. Meet Professor Sycamore!
Professor Sycamore, unlike the other professors, will challenge you to a battle every now and again. What do you think of him?
More Pokémon!
We've been graced with more Pokémon in July! Between the usual few we receive from CoroCoro, we have also had a few more released via a Japanese Culture Convention in France, as well as preview during the new Pokémon movie in theaters!
Honedge, the Sword Pokémon
Based off of, well, a sword and scabbard that are posessed
Steel/Ghost type
Height: 0.8; 2'07"
Weight: 2.0kg ; 4.4lbs
Has the ability No Guard
Revealed during the Japanese Culture Expo in France on July 4th (Discuss Honedge here!)
July's CoroCoro truly did not disappoint with regards to information. We also learned the types of Xerneas and Yveltal, as well as their abilities and exclusive moves!
Xerneas
Xerneas has been confirmed to be a pure Fairy type
It has the ability Fairy Aura, which increases the damage of Fairy type attacks for all Pokémon on the field.
Its signature move is Geomancy. It is Fairy typed and does damage. Anything beyond that we currently don't know
Yveltal
Yveltal has been confirmed to be a Dark/Flying type
It has the ability Dark Aura, which increases the damage of Dark type attacks for all Pokémon on the field.
Its signature move is Oblivion Wing. It is Dark typed and does damage. Anything beyond that we currently don't know
You can discuss the legendaries in general here, or just talk about the new information that was released in the July CoroCoro thread.
The Pokémon Search System, the Holo Caster, O-Powers and Photo Spots
A new system has been introduced into the games: Pokémon Search System (PSS). This new feature connects you with players around the world at all times. Trading and battling with other people just got much simpler! For an in-depth description of it, as well as discussion, visit this thread!
The Holo Caster is this generation's communication device. It will cast holograms (if the name didn't give that away!) that you will communicate with, from people like your four friends/rivals and Professor Sycamore!
O-Powers appear to be similar (if not almost identical) to Pass Powers introduced in the fifth generation. They are used to temporarily increase aspects of your journey (as well as other's journeys if you choose to use your O-Powers on them instead of yourself), such as stats and the catch rate of Pokémon.
There will be Photo Spots scattered throughout Kalos. These spots will have pretty scenery or will be interesting locations you'll be able to take pictures of! Just like a real camera, you'll have the ability to adjust the settings of the camera before you take the pictures (such as brightness, shutter speed, and aperature)!
Kanto Starters, Mega Evolutions, And More! -- Pokémon Direct!
During the September Pokémon Direct, even more new information came to light! - Detailed description listed below.
The Kanto Starters!

Venusaur will have Thick Fat, Charizard will have Drought and Blastoise will have a new ability called Mega Launcher which will boost specific moves. There are no type changes for any of these Mega Evolutions.
A Bracelet called the Mega Ring holds a stone which is known as the Key Stone, this Key Stone reacts with your Pokémon's Mega Stone to trigger a Mega Evolution.
Pokémon Bank & Poké Transporter!
Pokémon Bank is an application and service for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y that will allow you to deposit, store, and manage your Pokémon in private Boxes on the Internet! Pokémon Bank is a paid service, with an annual charge for usage.
With Pokémon Bank, you will be able to link up your own boxes online via your Nintendo 3DS to deposit and withdraw any Pokémon. In the unlikely scenario in which you lose your copy of Pokémon X or Pokémon Y, your Pokémon would still be stored in Pokémon Bank ready to be transferred into a new game. You will be able to store upto 3,000 Pokémon!
Poké Transporter is a free 3DS app that allows you to upload Pokémon from your Pokémon Black and White Versions and Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 Versions into an online box. From there you can then transfer these uploaded Pokémon onto your Pokémon X & Pokémon Y Versions via Pokémon Bank! Once Pokémon have been transferred they cannot be traded back.

Mega Evolution is a new method of evolving Pokémon. Not all Pokémon have the capability to mega evolve, but for those who can see a growth in strength and sometimes a change in ability and/or type. It is also said that a special bond between trainer and Pokémon play an important role to mega evolution.
Mega Stones
There are different Mega Stones for different Pokémon capable of mega evolving. Each stone is named after the Pokémon to which it grants power to (i.e. Blazikenite, Lucarionite).
