During World War II a certain type of ability was unearthed; the ability to use magic. Originally, this ability was disguised as bombs or other war machines further hidden by the theorems and hypotheses of world renowned scientists, such as Einstein. Weapons such as atomic bombs were in all actuality the byproduct of powerful earth magic, and incidences like the Chernobyl disaster originating from a misuse of fire magic. As a result of the destructive nature many of these magics possessed, the United Nations limited access to Mancers (magic users). But an increase of Mancers in society has spurned the need for education, both in application and control, to help ready mages and the common society to prepare for the public introduction of magic into society. This need for education created the need for specialized institutions to help teach new generations of magicians how to control their powers and how to apply them for the sake of society. Even though magic is being prepared for its public unveiling, it is still very much a secret from everyone other than Mancers and high ranking government officials.
One of the most prestigious and adaptive academies of magic resides in the United States of America mid-west region. Located in Wyoming is the Vale Institute of Magic, better known to most U.S. citizens as the Vale Institute of Higher Learning. For most, this school is the penultimate achievement for kids, as many who attend the school become very famous or important in society. This boarding school provides a rather desolate location with enough raw elements to give all five types of magic users (fire, water, metal, earth, and air) a sufficient amount of resources to work with.
Students are being enrolled under the pretense that they are there to learn how to control their magic. It is largely unknown what the current headmaster, Kristen Vale, has intended for the students, but rumor suggests that she doesn’t agree with what the government would like for Mancers, which is for them to be primarily under service to the government.
To help train the students several teachers, each with their own specialty in magic, teach classes that focus not only on magic usage, but other subjects as well, such as magic history. After each day of classes the students are suggested to spar with each other to show their daily improvements. Additionally, the students are categorized depending on the student’s usage of magic. Students that show positive and/or creative usage are graded higher than chaotic or overly destructive magic.
You are a young Mancer who has recently received a letter to attend the Vale Institute of Magic. There could be several reasons as to why they wanted you; maybe you come from a long line of magic users or perhaps strange things have been occurring, such as water moving when you watch it, or fire seemingly following you. Either way, they want you to attend, and decide to do so. While attending Vale your overall goal will be to develop your abilities and to learn new magic.
Through the various lessons and extracurricular activities you will be allowed to gain new spells and elements. You decide whether or not your character can learn more than one element, but the more elements a character has the less they can “master” an element. In other words a character that dedicates their magic to one element will be stronger in that element than a person who knows two, and the person who knows two elements will be stronger at their elements than a person who knows three, so on and so on. That isn’t to say that a person who knows more elements is weaker, since the more elements a person knows the better rounded they will be against other characters. Additionally, a character that knows a certain combination of elements (there are multiple) can learn special mutations of their magic that are stronger than basic elemental magic.
The school is divided in to three primary sections: the main building, recreation center, and student dorm. Each section has specific uses and are completely available to travel to, with the only exception being a few rooms in the main building.
Main Building: The main building consists of three floors, though the entire third floor is technically the headmaster’s office. The cafeteria is located on the east wing of the first floor while the gym is located on the west wing. The cafeteria offers a wide selection of food, which changes daily and requests can be made. The gym is unlike normal gyms in that it is primarily designed to be used for practicing magic in sparring sessions. In the gym there are five “battlefields” that can be used. These five each specialize in an element. On the second floor are the student classrooms. Classes are based off of year of study, unless noted otherwise.
Dorms: There are five dorms, each for a specific element. The dorms are Platinum House (Metal), Sky Temple (Wind), Phoenix Nest (Fire), Kraken’s Den (Water), and Gaia Dorm (Earth). Each dorm is accented with traits inspired by their elements, but individual rooms are virtually identical. Student rooms are well furnished, with each room having a high end computer, queen sized bed, and full bathroom. Also, if two people wish to share a room they may request their queen sized bed to be exchanged for two twin sized beds.
Recreation Center: The recreation center is the place to go if you want to have some unconditional fun. You can find all sort of stuff here, such as TV, games, and if you’re feeling extra scrappy you can spar on a special neutral battlefield. A large hybrid swimming pool resides inside and outside of the recreation center. Half of the pool is inside while the other half is outside, and both halves can be separated by a retractable glass partition.
Magic and the Circle of Elements:
I’m sure by now you have noticed the circle above this paragraph. That circle is the Circle of Magic. It displays each element, their strength, and their weakness. Just to be clear Fire is strong against Metal, Metal is strong against Earth, Earth is strong against Wind, Wind is strong against Water, and Water is strong against Fire. The two elements in the middle circle will be explained in the first IC day, but for now they shouldn’t concern you. Magic is currently restricted to these explicit elements, so that means a character knowing Water magic can use spells pertaining to water but not ice.

➥ Man of Steel
During a very short period of time, Nathan can transform a small part of his body(hand per example) into steel. This spell, taking quite a good deal of energy, is avoided as much as possible by him.
➥ Metal Manipulation
Nathan can manipulate a small piece of metal, turning it into whatever he wants. The bigger the object, the more energy it will take. However, he can only transform little pieces of metal and he doesn't have enough mastery to make anything too complicated. That's why he's always carrying a piece of metal around him, to train.
➥ Touch of Steel
Nathan can transform a small part of what he touches into steel.
Personality: Nathan is a cold individual and not a very big talker. He's not the most friendly guy you could find on Earth. In fact, he tries to avoid people as much as possible but he realizes that he can't go on without people so he puts a little effort in trying to be a bit more social even though he mostly prefers to be alone. But for the ones who earned the right to be called his friends, he truly cared for and would go at any lengths to protect them. Nathan isn't a big fan of laughing or smiling and that's why you'll rarely see him doing so. He doesn't like to be around a huge crowd and interacting with them, he's the loner that is always training by himself. In fact, training is his favorite hobby seeing as he doesn't really like to partake in "parties" or other social gatherings.
Nathan always like to win and was never a good loser. If someone beat him at anything, he wouldn't rest until he became stronger than them. He also has the mindset that he is superior to everyone in terms of power and always get upset when someone doesn't agree with him. He is also short-tempered, getting angry easily. Despite not being a natural talker nor a friendly person, he won't miss an occasion to hit on women, thinking he is a ladykiller.
History: Nathan's childhood was relatively normal. He grew up with two loving parents that were ready to spoil his every need as soon as he opened his mouth. Seeing as his family was relatively rich, Nathan was used to having many servants. But not everything was perfect in his life. Despite his parents loving him, they weren't always there for him when he needed them. In fact, the servants working for his parents knew him better than them. And there was one he liked the most among them, her name was Sarah. She was like a mother to him, always caring about him and making sure he was alright. When he was at the age of 10, he started to develop his powers. He noticed that whenever he touched something, it would turn into metal and after that he'd feel dizzy. He was too afraid to tell his parents so he decided to keep the secret. All was going well until Sarah caught him doing magic practice. He thought she was going to tell his parents but at his surprise, he discovered Sarah had the same ability to use Metal magic as him!
Since then, Sarah had begun to train him. Apparently, her great grandfather had used Metal magic in WWII and he had passed down this skill throughout his family when he died and naturally, Sarah had learned from her father. He was happy to spend more time and train with her. His parents grew suspicious of the two of them and decided to find out what they were doing. When they discovered everything, they immediately fired Sarah and locked up their son in a spare room of the house, almost treating him like a pest they would put in quarantine. He grew depressed and hated everyone. Then he decided he'd leave the house, not caring what could happen to him. This night, he broke out of the house. While leaving, he discovered a letter wrote from Sarah that his parents had apparently hid from him.
I wish I could tell this to you in person but I had to leave the country immediately. So I wrote you this short letter and left you a little gift. I wanted you to know you were the most amazing kid I ever met and I'll remember you forever. Don't let go even if life seems hard. I'm counting on you!
Below was letter inviting him to the Vale Institute of Magic and Nathan immediately knew where he'd be going.
Code: Challenge me!
Other: -He always carries a chunk of metal around him.
Thrust: Shion's first spell, she forces the air around a body or entity to move in a particular direction with a single blast of air. It has a short range of effect and only works directionally, but it boasts very high power and can be used successively. It makes her punches very painful, and greatly assists her movement.
Lift: A much more controlled version of Thrust from exploring non-combat utilities for her magic, a weak cyclone with a balanced updraft is formed below a body (usually Shion's) to generate a constant lift without outright knocking things away or blowing them sky-high. It can be used for short periods of flight or levitation (when combined with Thrust) and a cushion (in the case of falling and/or landing). The cyclone may occasionally be visible, depending on weather conditions. (On a clear day, it'll be invisible. A rainy, snowy or foggy day will reflect itself in the spell.)
Shred: While it doesn't do much actual shredding (except for Shion's clothes), it generates layered airflow in opposite directions around Shion's forearms and legs, most importantly providing protection from the damage her fighting style deals to her own body, but also deflection and blunt force capabilities, in addition to minor cutting force (given enough contact) akin to a razor.
Personality: Shion's personality is... abrasive, at times. Thankfully, she's usually much more cold, and typically won't even say more than a few words to you unless she needs something, is answering a question, or is genuinely interested in interaction with you; if it's none of these, it's probably going to be an insult. (Chances are it'll be some kind of insult anyways.) A long-standing inferiority complex has also led her to going all-out in everything she does. If she's not very good at something, she won't let anyone see her doing it until she's mastered it (even to the point that she loses sleep over it), so sometimes she'll come off as a stuck-up natural at whatever the activity is. Her mild, yet noticeable English accent (combined with rather formal mannerisms and a typically frosty attitude) doesn't make it any better.
She does turn light-hearted around friends IF SHE HAD ANY or when she's having fun, of course. Otherwise, she'll be found ignoring you.
Shion's even worse with her own emotions despite what seems to be pretty good control over them. As such, she tends to get embarrassed and defensive over a few things, and extremely passionate or rash about others. Finally, despite her harsh exterior, she really does want friends (leading her to pursue a myriad of interests that would possibly get people to like her more), and likes helping people. She just sucks at it.
History: Shion's association with magic goes back to her grandfather, Alan Igna—a field medic for the U.S. Marine Corps. during World War II—who began using fire magic around the appearance of mancers. Originally, Alan used it to cauterize wounds to get soldiers back in the fight as quickly as possible. However, shortly before the war ended, he developed his pyromancy as a martial art based off of his U.S.M.C. training, among other martial arts he found while deployed. Utilizing rapid strikes and deflection, aided by igniting the air around the fighter's limbs for propulsion and greatly increased striking power, Igna's art was (and still is) a highly offensive, very short-range fighting style designed to deal with both heavy defenders and ranged fighters. In his years mastering his then-unnamed art, Alan married a high-class English aeromancer, who persuaded him to dub the fighting style Fire Dancing due to the active usage of all four limbs. While weapons were an option when developing the art, Alan found them too inefficient and unreliable due to the constant use of fire magic.
Alan went on to teach Fire Dancing to other pyromancers in the U.S. Midwest, and he was able to live in relative luxury with his wife and three children. His children all became pyromancers as well (though one also developed aeromancy), and were taught to control it as soon as they started exhibiting usage. His children became fire dancers themselves, and their children years later.
Except Shion. Shion was the only one who couldn't use fire magic, being the only one aside from her paternal grandmother who could only use wind magic. She faced more than a bit of teasing from her four-years-older sister, Lana, who was heavily favored since their parents were both exclusively pyromancers. Regardless, Shion still took the effort to learn and eventually master fire dancing by the time she was thirteen (her cousins being a year or two under when they could claim that feat, and Lana being her stupid, overachieving self at nine). Instead of fire, she started using her aeromancy to achieve a similar effect. Rather than an ignition or propulsion spell that provided "real" Fire Dancers their incredible strength and speed, Shion used her Thrust spell to get the same strength and movement capability in the martial art; the physical damage that left on her hands and feet gave birth to her Shred spell. Sadly, it never did garner the praise she wanted, and she grew much less social.
Aside from martial arts, she took up music (mostly listening, but she learned how to play a saxophone), using her magic as a general-purpose utility instead of just a fighting tool (wasn't nearly as useful for her as earth or water), cooking, and sports (with which she found a more sporting use of her magic before she found out that it wasn't legal in conventional sports, and generally banned in school for the sake of non-mancers), ultimately leading to the few spells she relies on today.
Her sister did show that she cared about Shion's wellbeing, however, when the latter received a letter from the Vale Institute of Magic on Lana's own post-graduation recommendation.
By using this spell, Nicholas can whip up a strong wind from behind him. It is so strong, that anyone that stands in front of him would be blown back a considerable distance. ·Whirlwind Flats
Exactly 5 feet in front of Nicholas, a (somehow flat) whirlwind will form. It will continue to grow until someone gets caught in it. Once again, it is strong enough that it will spin the victim. After a good 15 seconds of spinning, it will fling them into the air, leaving them dizzy and hurt. ·Levitate

GoldenRayquaza, you've been reserved. Also, I updated the reserved/accepted list with the most current information.
Songbird, I'm glad you brought up the question about what year the roleplay takes place in, so I would like to clear that up by saying that the roleplay starts in early September, 2013.
For any who may want to read it, here is my SU.
Name: Zane Reav
Flashbang: Zane glows for a brief moment then releases a short, yet strong, concussive blast of light that temporarily blinds, deafens, and disorients all living beings within certain proximity of the blast, with the only exception being the user. The easiest way to avoid this spell is to notice when he starts to glow. That is the only warning sign, and due to the nature of a Flashbang, once it goes off it can be very difficult to avoid without cover.
Light Beam: Light is condensed into a thin strand of hard-light then fired in a beam. In actuality the hard-light has the circumference of a .22 bullet, but due to the significantly faster movement of hard-light than a traditional bullet its strength is on par with .380 ACP rounds. This spell can be identified by Zane using a finger-gun, but once it has been fired it can be nearly impossible to dodge.
Vector Shift: Zane’s body becomes light for a fraction of a second. This allows him to travel very short distances of two to three feet. While using this spell he is technically not moving, but simply shifting his location. If this ability is used repetitively over an extended period of time the user becomes liable to suffer internal hemorrhaging.
At first glance Zane seems to be a prototypical popular guy. He’s talkative, friendly, and overall a really nice guy. Need some help learning a new way to use spells? Zane’s your guy. At least that’s what he’d have you think. In all actuality he is rather distant. Rarely does he actually build any meaningful relationships with other people. Instead he prefers to maintain shallow and easily forgotten ones. The reason behind this is unknown even to him, but it probably originates from his detachment from reality, which leads into another trait of his.
Even though he appears to be more than willing to help a person be creative in their application of magic, he is obstinately against studying. While in class he often does his best to ignore what a teacher has to say, either to avoid studying or to focus on something that he would rather spend his time on. One example would be how to employ his spell in a new way instead of learning about magic history.
Zane’s childhood wasn’t exactly what one could call normal. Since before he could remember he was an orphan at the Seattle Children’s Home, though why Seattle he would never understand. As an infant and young child he seemed really distant, some would even describe him as empty. He wouldn’t interact with the other children, even if they made attempt to include him, which at first they often did. A few years like this went by, finally prompting one of the caregivers to discuss how important properly interacting with others could be, and that he should try to be more social. By the time he was eight he began to show a very similar nature to what he often displays now. He was increasingly helpful and friendly, but there was something about him that was always different than the other kids. Only people close to Zane noticed it, and as a result his friendliness didn’t come off as unusual to prospective adopters. Eventually a couple came in saying how the husband didn’t have enough free time to raise a very young child due to his career. They became attached to Zane rather quickly and in a surprisingly short amount of time they adopted him. At this time he was ten years old.
It would turn out the very busy job the husband, Alex Reav, had was that he was a member of the Seattle PD SWAT team. It didn’t take a long look around the house to figure out that Alex was a rather gung-ho aficionado about guns and weapons. He owned several types of weapons, with his favorites being a fully-automatic M4 assault rifle and an S&W M500 magnum. Those were just a couple of Alex’s arsenal, and as expected of a man who loved guns he wanted to pass on the feeling to Zane, who at the time had not learned anything about magic, or guns for that matter. Alex and Zane’ relationship is to this day one of the only relationships that Zane would say he values. This however was not as true for his adoptive mother, Olivia Reav.
During his preteens and early teen years he really started to shut off people that were around his age. It distressed Olivia, but her distress only backfired when Zane started to show the same attitude towards her. She became distressed at the thought that she had done possibly done something wrong (not that she did). As a result their relationship quickly deteriorated, and it only worsened when he started to show signs of being able to use magic.
At around fourteen is when the strange occurrences started. At night, he would occasionally glow without reason. Panicked, he began to barricade himself from everyone; for he feared that he would be viewed as some sort of freak. He couldn’t confide in Alex, and Olivia only felt worse when he started to isolate himself, which also forced Alex to prioritize who to help. He eventually decided to focus on making Olivia feel better, and to leave Zane to his devices in hope that it was only a phase. None of them knew, though, how many eyes had been watching for any abnormality. It didn’t take long for the letter to arrive, and once they all had seen what was offered they couldn’t refuse. They had promised two things; they could help him and that they had a lead on his heritage.

Other: Zane’s theme song is Crystal Ball by I See Stars (warning, this song is not for everyone as it is a kinda heavy variation of metalcore).
@JNathan: Spells aren't really limited in their strength per se, but it is more likely to be chaotic, unwieldy, or otherwise hard to control the stronger it gets. That brings us to how well a character can control their spells. Characters are not expected to be able to control high power spells, however, that doesn't mean they can't know them. Most characters can control low to low-medium power spells effectively, and medium power spells occasionally.
I have some exams coming up so I will not be able to post for 2 weeks in IC :(
Name: Flit Asuno
Chimera's Breath ~ Flit breathes out intense flames.
Volcanic eruption (eating Taco's) ~ Creates fireballs in his hands, he then shoots them out in a flurry which looks like a volcanic eruption hence the name. AoE.
Personality: Flit is a very calm and collected person who does not lose his head in situations. Flit is a quick thinker even if his thoughts are not very bright or don’t work. Flit is suave and knows what to say to keep a conversation going or to stop a heated discussion turning into an argument. Flit has a bad habit of not brushing his hair (refer to appearance). Flit enjoys Beef and Bacon pies and loves the surf. Flit tries to be nice to strangers and welcoming to them which he can find hard if the person happens to be an A hole. Flit loves going to the gym and taking photos. He is generally a person who is easy to get along with. He is also friendly and outgoing, but at the same time somewhat rebellious and brash. Even so, Flit is quite disciplined, and will not contest the statements of a superior if he sees himself as out of line; it is only when Flit believes he is right that he will fight back. Flit takes friendship very seriously, though he wasn't particularly close to anyone. His favorite type of music is hip-hop.
History: Flit’s childhood was nothing but normal (much shock). He lived in Canada for most of his life until he was 8 where he moved to the land of freedom, America. His parents bought a 2 story house in a densely populated area, it was when he was 9 that strange things began to occur. After school one day Flit was cornered by some bullies. After being pushed around after a few minutes Flit burst into flames, the bullies scared out of hell ran. When he got home he told his parents who laughed it off thinking it was a lie. Flit understood why they didn’t believe him because it was something unbelievable. But when he was 12 it happened again except this time it was at a bonfire. When he went near it the flames moved closer to him, when suddenly they moved to close and his shoe caught on fire. Trying to blow it out instead the flames got more intense to the point that they needed to put it out with a fire extinguisher.
Everything was quiet from then until he turned 16 where he created fire from his bare hands. After playing around with the fire for a few minutes he realised that he could do stuff with this, so he ran to an alley way and started to see if it could burn anything first he tried wood, it worked. Secondly he decided to see if he could melt metal which it could. With this new ability Flit decided to see if he could fly by propelling the flames into the ground and lifting him up from the intense flames being shot out of his hands, to his shock this did not work and ended up with him hitting the ground… hard. When Flit got home that night he didn’t tell his parents of this new development and hid in his room playing around with a small fire ball.
On his 17th Birthday, Flit was given an invitation to attend the Vale Institute of Higher Learning, in the letter it told him that they knew of his powers. Without a moment’s notice Flit packed his bags and waved goodbye to his parents off to attend the Boarding school thinking of what he might learn there.

Other: Can I have a fireball floating around me at all times?
@Chuckles: First I would like to say thanks for your interest. Most of your SU is fine. Volcanic Eruption is a little confusing (Is this another mouth attack or is it just a hand attack?) and there is a typo in your personality (just pointing it out) where you use air instead of fire. The fireball thing doesn't seem like a good idea. Having a magically powered fireball levitate around you ALL THE TIME would literally drain you so fast you could die. Perhaps you could reevaluate the fireball and come up with a creative way to turn it into a spell. Other than that you're good.
A cleverly devised close combat spell, rather than attempting to directly punch his opponent, Indigo aims to quickly and powerfully slide his fist along the side of his opponents body, he then uses his fire magic to increase the heat from the mild friction ten fold, thus leaving powerful and painful burns across the opponents body. Think Chinese burns, but ten times worse and given whenever Indigo lands a hit.
A potentially brutal battle move and fairly efficient passive ability. It's an energy efficient move that (while difficult to pull off against an active opponent) can deal large amounts of damage if successful. This move is preformed by the simple act of Indigo pressing his hand against the target area and concentrating a large amount of heat energy to flow from him to the desired spot/vessel/opponent that he is touching. How long Indigo can keep his hand in place will be the deciding factor in how much damage the spell will do. Think of the ability as being the same as pushing a boiling hot teapot against an opponents flesh. It would be difficult to keep it there for more than a few seconds... however if you actually managed to do so you could deal sufficient damage. This spell cannot be maintained for very long periods of time as excessive use of the ability can and will lead to the extreme heat burning Indigo's own hand.
A passive move that Indigo may apply to himself or anyone who he deems in need. By setting his fingertips alight with flame, he can forcefully seal open wounds to prevent blood loss and possible exsanguination by quite literally pulling the skin back together and allowing the fire and heat to do its job. While this is an incredibly painful process for whomever is being healed, such an ability has the potential to save lives in certain circumstances.
An incredibly proud person. A natural leader at best, an arrogant annoyance at worst, he's confident in his abilities more than anything else. Originally resenting himself for being different, he now feels uncontrollable amounts of pride in his eccentricities, they're what make him who he is and he embraces them fully. He tends to act the hero in dire situations, often throwing himself into impossible circumstances... yet somehow having the habit to come out of them with at least moderate success. He doesn't do it for the glory mind you... in fact he actually gets quite embarrassed when others compliment him and prefers if people just let him do what he needs to do and then allow him to fade back into obscurity. The only pride he wants off of anyone, is pride in himself, if he can get that then nobody else's opinion matters to him. Still if people ask him about his self-opinion, he'll be sure to give him a full description... and while he doesn't mean it to... this comes across as quite arrogant.
He hates the idea of people being picked on because they're smaller or weaker than someone else as he feels that his entire younger life was an example of such experiences. As such he instinctively stands up to bullies and won't take "no" for an answer if they refuse to cease their actions. He has in fact developed quite a temper over the years and things like "bullying" or "discriminating" almost instantly set it off... however other activities have been known to activate his temper, such as people insulting his friends or simply refusing to stop annoying him. Certain people can set him off quite often for specific reasons, but such people are rare.
The most negative trait of his personality is his almost womanizing attitude. He in no way discriminates against women mind you, he considers them equal to men in every way... he just... enjoys their company perhaps a little too much. To put it bluntly Indigo is a massive flirt, prone to talking to any girl he wants, his handsome face and confident disposition pretty much guaranteed him any girl he wanted would fall for him and as such that is what he is used to. Getting any girl he wanted to fall for him. He has never "fallen in love" persay, but he has for some reason become a persistent romantic. Never getting into a relationship that spanned more than one or two dates (Due to his home position and lack of interest both), yet the amount of girls he has had these short relationships with over the years is... surprisingly high. Don't hate him too much for this mind you... if you ask him directly he can remember the names of every girl he's ever flirted with... well... probably.
Indigo is the kind of person who is no stranger to being abandoned... he doesn't know where his magic came from or where he's going with it... he's not even sure if he cares. All he knows is that when their little boy was making fire move... his parents didn't seem too bothered with throwing him to the dogs. They didn't even put him up for adoption... at five years old, Indigo was told he and his parents were going to get ice cream... by the end of that day he was wandering around a crowded mall, looking for a Mommy and Daddy who had already left him alone. He spent the next few weeks sleeping on the streets... he had all the warmth he needed, but the poor kid couldn't eat fire and soon he began to starve. Every night he'd cry himself to sleep and every morning the hunger pains would wake him up.
After months of eating scraps to survive he finally collapsed in the middle of a crowded road, the small form couldn't be seen by incoming traffic and the now six year old boy had fully given up the will to live. It was at this point that a disgruntled old man rushed out onto the road, he had a scraggly beard and old leather jacket that kept him in his thin shirt and baggy pants warm. His old leather shoes were filled with holes and the locals thought he was a madman. Running out in front of traffic as he did warranted nothing but angry honks from the drivers on the road... but the old man didn't care, crouching down, he picked up Indigo's small body and quickly carried it to safety. The busy commuters didn't seem too bothered by this... perhaps embarrassed by what they had almost done, afraid of the results of their carelessness, they kept driving.
A few hours later, Indigo woke up, he was lying down on a rough "bed" made of shredded cardboard and old pillows. A wet towel lay across his head and it slipped onto his lap as he groggily sat up. Beside his bed was half a rough bread role and an old, cleaned out tin can filled with water. Without even examining the room around him, Indigo feverishly devoured the bread and gulped down the water, as he finished he felt his stomach groan louder as his destroyed appetite came back to him and he clutched his stomach in pain. "I'm sorry sonny... that's all I had to give ya..." Surprised and scared, Indigo turned to the voice to see that on the other side of the apparently abandoned room, lit by the light of a sole candle, sat an old man in a leather jacket, he had a thin shirt and baggy pants, his face was old and tired, riddled with scars, his head bald as the moon and the only hair he had seemingly being a scraggly white beard that covered the majority of his lower face. He had a single dog tag dangling around his neck. "D... don't be scared sonny, you were very sickly looking... I've seen ya around here for a while now... I couldn' jus' leave ya there collapsed on the road now could I?" Indigo was still scared... but his face softened slightly as he saw that to the left of the tired old man... was a tin plate and on that plate was the other, much smaller half, of the bread roll he had just eaten.
For the next few years Indigo lived with the old man who went by the name of Boylan Davidson in that abandoned house on an old abandoned street. He was taught by Mr. Davidson in private in both education and... magic. You see what Indigo found out... was that Mr. Davidson had served in World War II... not only that... but he could control fire, just like Indigo could... but the people in charge of the war had wanted to stop Mr. Davidson from living his own life. They had wanted to use him... make him use his magic for their own means and ways... but Mr. Davidson refused. He ran away and ended up on the streets, he became a grumpy old homeless man and most people were afraid of him. However once he saw Indigo, Mr. Davidson sensed something inside of the boy. He took him under his wing and taught him. Indigo was home schooled by Mr. Davidson and began to enroll in local youth clubs where he gained social skills that would help him greatly in life he had ahead.
Mr. Davidson was an old man however... and despite living as long as he had, on Indigo's seventeenth birthday, Boylan Davidson had a heart attack while searching for an appropriate gift for the son he never had. It was a lonely funeral... with only Indigo in attendance... and one other man whom Indigo did not recognise under a dark hood, he sat two seats down from Indigo and as he got up to leave he appeared to leave an envelope on his seat. Looking down and picking it up, Indigo called out to the man... but he was already gone when Indigo raised his eyes from the envelope. Curiosity getting the better of him, Indigo pried the letter open. Inside were three things, A second envelope addressed to Indigo caught the boys eye. He opened that first, it had been sent two days prior to his birthday, it described one of the greatest schools in the World... a school Indigo had been accepted to... Indigo quickly examined the remaining contents of the letter... a single dog tag... accompanied by a small note.
"Happy Birthday Indigo. I couldn't manage to buy anything worthwhile... but you may have noticed another envelope inside this one... that envelope will lead you to an amazing place where you'll find more like us... I'm leaving you aswell with my most valuable possession... you'd always eye it when you were a wee lad... I hope it serves you well. It's a lucky charm after all!
Go make a new life for yourself m'boy... you deserve more than what fate gave you.
-Your pal, Davidson."
Tears rolled down Indigo's face as he fell to his knees, the dog tag clutched in one hand, an invitation to the "Vale Institute of Magic" in the other.
The dog tag hanging around his neck seems to be very important to Indigo... he always wears it... though he refuses to talk about it.
Spells: Water Spin - Aris encases herself in a thin layer of water, absorbing some of the brunt of close-combat blows and catching small projectiles. She then spins wildly (mostly for flair, admittedly) and sends the quick, high-powered water everywhere.
Slip Kick - Aris makes a thin layer of water under her feet, allowing her to quickly slide and dash towards an opponent. She will then kick up almost in a slipping motion with the water now encased around her foot.
Appearance: Aris has light brown hair, just a bit longer than shoulder-length, and wispily feathered with a center part. Her eyes are very dark brown. She has a thin pair of black wire glasses, but she almost always forgets to wear them. Her eyesight isn't particularly bad anyways, so for the time it doesn't quite matter. Her skin is just a tiny bit tanned. She is average height and weight for her age, although sometimes she seems shorter than she actually is. She normally wears a patterned shirt (she has a strong preference towards plaid, for some reason) and tightens a thin black or brown belt just over her hips to make it more fitted. Otherwise, she normally wears a pair of jeans or khakis. Her shoes are eye-burning highlighter yellow sneakers. She isn't particularly attached to them, and claims they are the only one she could find that fit well.
Personality: Aris feels rather bland at times. She's that person who blends into the background without trying, feeling no real need to get involved and finding it much more interesting to be an observer. She's perfectly friendly if you take the time to talk to her, however. She craves interaction with people, although she does claim observing people does fall into the category of interaction, though she likes having a large group of friends, as well. She likes to see the good in people without realizing, and sometimes completely skips over horrendous flaws in people in order to focus on the fact they say hello to everyone they meet or the like.
Aris hates being wrong, but doesn't mind not being right, so she tends to try and be neutral and this sometimes makes her seem like she has no opinion. She hates conflict, and feels people should just work things out by themselves. This has led to her bottling up her emotions at time, and normally they fade as she can't remember what the emotions were from.
Aris can't focus on things for very long, and can only remember things that interest her, making her seem ditzy sometimes as she jumps from subject to subject. However, everything interests her before she gets really deep into a topic. She feels specializing in things in stupid and it is better to know a little about everything you can.
History: Aris's life was rather normal, as none of her relatives seemed to be a mancer. Growing up in a relatively small town, her looks, quietness, and nature to see good in everyone caused her to be roped into the "popular" bullying group from a young age. Although she never actively participated in the bullying, her ambivalence towards the bullying was almost as hurtful. She saw her group as nice for acknowledging everyone they met, even those they dubbed as less cool, ignoring the content of what they said. She normally just followed what they did. The only thing that really stood out about her was her dancing skill, something she took with her friends and the only thing she has somewhat stuck with because she was good at it thanks to her naturally fluid motions and there was something new to learn each time, which made the repetitiveness of practicing feel slightly less boring. Her powers only manifested very lightly and excuses were quickly found for all of them. Her tendency to get only slightly wet in the rain was brushed off as luck, the rain puddles that flared up around her was due to a large raindrop that none saw. Aris didn't really suspect anyone was different about her.
It was only in middle school did the true nature of her powers was revealed. To her mild shock, a boy had written her Aris a note to ask her to come to the back of the school after classes ended, presumably to ask her out. Most of her friends had "boyfriends" who had asked them out in the very same way. The group giggled about it all day, although Aris felt a little queasy about it. She had no intention of going out with someone in middle school, but rejecting the mystery boy made her feel upset. She was honorable though, and did indeed go out to the back of the school. She was beyond relieved when no one showed up.
This quickly turned into a bigger problem, however, as a nerdy girl that the group had bullied angrily confronted her during lunch the next day. Apparently the note was a lure so the girl and her friends could pelt Aris with water balloons and ruin her "superior" clothes and "haughty" attitude. Instead, the balloons had turned traitor on them, flipping them around and splashing them in the faces. The girl was convinced that it was all part of a plot by Aris, but Aris knew nothing of it. Her temper grew slightly, but Aris quelled her emotions in the face of all of these accusations. Or so she thought. Her lunch had different ideas, as her glass of water splashed the other girl in the face. Aris told the principal she had indeed thrown the water in the other girl's face, as it was less trouble. Internally, she was growing more and more freaked out at the growing incidents.
Two weeks later, a letter from the Vale Institute of Magic explained everything.

Other: Strangely enough, Aris has hated drinking water for as long as she can remember.
Dualik, you need to adjust you're spells a bit. Friction Burn is fine, but Phoenix Rise and Indigo Flame both are questionable. Indigo Flame doesn't have a clear limit to it, even though you mention it drains very quickly you don't explain what the repercussions are. As a result it leaves the spell unintentionally easy to abuse. Phoenix Rise on the other hand is contradictory in that it is "volatile," yet it's also "controlled," which is quite simply not possible. To be specific, the way you initially describe the spell is unwieldy and likely to backfire, but later it is described as easy to control and that just doesn't add up. Additionally, it would seem that this spell is actually two spells if you include Phoenix Talon, since Rise is used to get airborne while Talon is the offensive attack. Fix these two (technically 3) spells and you'll be ready.
JNathan, you're Accepted. A little note, though, about your Metal Manipulation and how to become better at it. Generally speaking, when creating objects the user has to have prior knowledge of said object. In other words it would be impossible to create something complex like a gun or phone without knowing the basics of how they work. Not to worry, since one of the teachers specializes in that kind of magic.
This actually looks really interesting, id like to reserve a spot if possible
This could get me to stop being just a lurker enjoying the RP stories and actually participate in one =P.
I should have the SU up by tomorrow hopefully.
Name: Crystal Nightwish
Molding: This spell takes any piece of earth, be it a rock, dust or anythign else and molds it into the shape she desires, but since it takes a lot of magic nothign really big or too complicated can be molded... for now. This allows her to even replicate a moving machine but she must know how it works and what every single piece looks like. This spell can alter the shape but not the mass so while she can use bigger pieces to mold small things a small rock cant be used to create a large object.
Quake: This spell manipulates a specific area by causing the ground to vibrate, the larger the area the less impact it will have but if the vibrations are timed right it can prove to have devastating effects by making solid structures crumble.
Rock burst: This spell is purely for the prupose of destroying, its an extreme form of her molding spell but it takes a rock and compresses its mass as much as possible creating a huge amount of pressure, the now smaller rock is the trown at the target and as soon as the magic holding the pressure down is released the rock bursts sending a shock wave and rock fragments at the target.
Due to the way she grew up her personality is not very social, prefering to spend most of her time alone or with animals rather than other humans, this has allways lead to her not being able to make friends easily but those who get to know her find she would put everythign on the line for her friends. Shes also hotheaded and stubborn and doesnt like to rely on others even if shes the first to offer help to friends she will most likely decline any help offered to her.
As much as she would do anythign for her friends she also only shows trust once and thats it, once someone has betrayed that trust she will never open herself again to them. Her magic reflects her closed up heart but also the hatred she feels to other humans.
Crystal had a dangerous and hard childhood that began with her magic begining to develop when she was only 7 years old as she learned she could make earth move and even shape it sligthly, but her parents didnt saw this with the same joy as she did, instead they tough she was a monster and simply trew her to the streets where she started to live or rather survive by stealing food with the help of her powers.
By the age of 12 she had developed her magic enough to help her survive with relative ease but every other person she met allways looked at her like she was a pest or a dissease so she closed herself from humans living with some animals in the sewers, as she grew up so did her power and to some point the hate she felt for all those humans who simply shut her out for being different, feelings which molded the way her magic developed into powers that could help her simplify her living in the world but also that if she needed to would prove deadly to others.
At the age of 14 Crystal started to work part time in a cafe as a waitress which allowed her to earn enough money to take herself and the animals she called family out of the swers and into a small garage an old couple was renting, this was only possible since thecouple took a liking and a bit of pitty of her since they had seen her lots of times in the streets. This was also the time she started to dye her hair pink at first on a whim to show she was different but she liked it so much that she continued doing it to the point where shes now quite an expert at doing it.
When she turned 16 she found a letter left in the small garage she lived along with her animal friends, the letter was from the Vale Institute of Magic, an invitation to join and learn more about her powers and how to better use them. This trespasing from someone into her "home" at first caused anger but at the same time it sparked some curiosity of who had taken notice of her and was actually treating her like a person and not some dissease they had to avoid so she decided to go ahead and move to the school, so with a smile on her face she left the old couples home who promised to care for the animals for her.

Her original last name was Ringold, but she decided to take the old couple last name when they allowed her to start living with them.
The rock shards from her rock burst spell canbe directed by slowly releasignthe magic at a certain point provided the rock is not too big, if its too big then the shards can fly in all directions with out control.
