" In an age long forgotten, this land became like no other. Our land flew above land, sea, clouds even, above all else. For thousands of years it has traveled the skies on its own, moved by an unseen force. The survivors of our land's rough uprooting put the broken shards of civilization back together... they flourished, for a time, till disaster befell them. The land glided through cursed clouds, above the monstrous waves of a storm that rages eternally. The mighty winds forced our ancestors off their feet, the waves reached like watery hands to wash them away, the damned clouds ate the island away little by little. Life on the island was brought on the brink of extinction; were it not for the archaic wisdom of our people, none of us would be here now. They raised a barrier that shrouds every corner of the land, protecting it from the evil that is out there, and it is still holding up, after thousands of years. It is powered by the four Sky Nexuses, ancient edifices that were built long before our ancestors elected to use them.
The barrier gave rest to the people, allowing them to live freely and grow old again, but our kind was still scarce after the recent catastrophe. As nomadic tribes, they fought for survival, when the land was abundant for everyone. Then, as they grew in numbers and settled down, they started fighting each other, seeking dominion. Their cultures were blooming, nations were born, but the war never changed. It was the same, constant and bloody, only more treacherous and violent. The firstly-formed Kingdoms united to become two Empires, the most memorable nations of our history: Hesperia and Stygia. The history books of our time are essentially lengthy lists of all their violent wars, conflicts, disputes and vendettas. Hesperia and Stygia may not be Empires anymore, but history repeats itself before our eyes - and not even the Gold Tribe can stop it now. Ah, this island of ours... it has crossed many skies, but the peace has yet to be restored fully. For the tale of conquest never ends. It only starts anew. "

Legacy of the Gold Tribe
Near five hundred years ago, a sudden and relentless invasion overwhelmed both Empires; a great force had struck them fast and hard. They are known as the Third Threat, or the Illinkar tribes. No city's walls could withstand them - they buried everything in snow, walked over it, butchered what living remained underneath and pillaged the cities. They were no threat earlier, as they were scattered and divided into tribes fighting each other; until they became united by one of the greatest conquerors in history: Ingvar, a Beartic, who forced Hesperia and Stygia to yield under his icy wrath. He killed the former monarchs and their heirs and proclaimed himself the First Emperor of the Realm of Exathor, a ruler who ruled all that there is for the eye to see. His cruel, tyrannical rule and ruthless, zero-tolerance politics brought the people on their knees. The first singular monarch of the island would see it bled dry.
Two men had appeared on the island. Foreign men with ideals strange and unheard of at the time, propositions suggestive and dangerous. They spoke of liberty, love and peace, and found many supporters in folk, who sought the same, a land free of cruelty and oppression. Be it Hesperian or Stygian, people from both nationalities joined the increasingly growing group of Pokemon who shared a common cause: to overthrow Emperor Ingvar and restore the peace. They were called the Gold Tribe, valiant defenders of the people who were well received by everyone who was not Illinkar. The Illinkar ignored them as a petty people's movement at first, but that gave them more ground to grow significantly in a short time, and soon, the whole Realm had risen against its Emperor to fight beside or within the Gold Tribe. As they claimed victories by freeing towns and cities, they proved to be far more capable and dangerous adversaries than the Emperor had anticipated. In sight of an important battle that would determine the fate of the Realm, Emperor Ingvar made preparations for his defense, but death came to him before the Gold Tribe. The Illinkar, leaderless, were crushed and they were left scattered and divided.
The leaders of the Gold Tribe at the time, Pyrodax and Vellas, issued a command that was against the Gold Tribe's values of liberty, but necessary for the certainty of a prolonged time of peace: give the Illinkar no quarter, and vanquish them entirely. The Realm was soon free by the last of the Third Threat. However, the first two threats remained: Hesperia and Stygia. Naturally, if they were allowed to become Empires again, war would soon return. Pyrodax and Vellas understood this, so in the place of Emperor Ingvar, they raised another Emperor of their own choosing: Theradras. They crowned him Ruler of All Exathian Nations and the First Man of Union and Alliance, an Emperor whose duty would be to solve and cease all conflicts, should they appear, a ruler who would use the full might of the Gold Tribe in his efforts to preserve the peace. A constitution was created and a council was established to advise the ruler of Exathor, but also to keep him in check. A Realm that was bleeding from a thousand wars readily accepted the merciful prospect of peace and union, and thus, there has only been one true nation on the island, up to this day.

Spoiler:
1. Union City
Spoiler:
Union City is the capital of Exathor and the center of the Realm. It was built four hundred years ago by the second Emperor Theradras with the help of the Gold Tribe; its inner fortress, the White Citadel, serves as the focal point for the Emperor and the Council's meetings, as well as the home of the Gold Tribe. The Exathian College of Union and Liberty, the place where one must study and graduate from to join the Gold Tribe, is located near the Citadel. The city's national color is blue and its flag is white and golden.
Union City was built in the edge of Vigil Forest, where plantations of all kinds of berries are located. The plantations are the Crown's primary income. The berry shipping makes the city an important center of commerce in Exathor, as it is placed in a strategic location for the world trade. The Glass Tower serves as an airport where airships of the Emperor's sky fleet, as well as other fleets, come and go, taking and bringing goods from all the corners of Exathor.

i. Amoon Village
Spoiler:
Amoon is a village in Vigil Forest, a neutral territory, although its residents are of the Stygian Tribe Otori. It's a village as close to nature as possible, as the natives are worshipping the pure and the noble. They are fierce defenders of the people, so most of the youngsters aspire to join the Gold Tribe and protect the Realm. Training grounds that are meant to test one's skills and spirit have been built by the elders of the village. The villagers are the managers and guardians of Union City's infamous plantations in Vigil Forest, though the main income of the town is tourism, as the place is quite pleasant to be and the Otorian discreet policy with outsiders is rather comforting.
The Otori are one of the five Stygian tribes and the less Stygian-like tribe there is. They are ancient, religious people faithful to Arceus. Resilient to natural disasters, they've stayed in roughly the same area for many centuries; the forest they live in, they grew themselves and protect it fiercely with their lives. The Otori are masters of meditation and survival, once hive minds who trusted no one but their own people a few years ago. They are calm and friendly people now, the friendliest of the Stygian tribes and a great ally to the Gold Tribe. Their people worship nature and most of them join the Gold Tribe or become explorers. The elders of the village are said to be looking for something; a great secret that they never share with strangers, only with the leader of the GT himself.
most popular types amongst them: grass, psychic, fairy, ice

2. Skyhaven
Spoiler:
Skyhaven is a super-ancient city which has existed far longer than recorded history; over the centuries, it has been destroyed and re-built again a dozen times over. In its center is the Old City, there is an area full of archaic ruins that was once the real city. Now, it has grown much larger, all around those ruins; it is the capital of the Hesperian region, having firm influence over it, and it serves as the seat of the Hesperian General. The air docks of the city are the largest airport in Exathor; there rests the Hesperian sky fleet, the strongest of all other military fleets in the land. The city is also known for its exquisite architecture, as well as being the center of the technological growth and art. Hesperia's symbol on its banners is the Swellow that ascends to the sky after having just left the clouds - a symbolization of the carefree life of a bird, as well as the purity of its spirit. For four hundred years now, it preserves a reputation for an undefeated city; ever since the Exathian Realm came to be, no enemy has been able to penetrate its thick, tall walls and conquer the beyond.
Hesperian Culture
Skyhaven, as the capital of Hesperia, shines as the true paragon of virtue. The people of Hesperia are always striving to sharpen their minds and bodies in pursuit of what they call Absolute Justice. They have vowed to keep records of all history in their huge libraries and universities. They are driven by their common cause to disseminate benevolence and order for the sake of all Pokemon on Exathor. They view evil and malice as a disease and seek to build a future without it. Those who visit or wish to settle down in their grounds are expected to share the ideals and virtues of the Hesperians. Those who seek personal gain at the expense of others are treated as criminals and may be ostracized or simply sentenced to death. Crime in any form is harshly punished. There are no prisons to speak of in Hesperia, so the penalties don't vary much. Any who commit crimes face the Absolute Justice, a verdict which determines their punishment depending on the offense.
Wisdom and compassion are the most favorable traits for Hesperians, and treachery and greed the detested and spat upon. The moral code of the Hesperians allows them no tolerance anywhere, not even in battle: Hesperians are not to make excuses, flee or surrender.

A. Stoneyard
Spoiler:
In the green hills of the Sea of Grass, hundreds and hundreds of rocks are lined up in perfect rows, one after another, going on for miles. Each rock is a tomb and has a name engraved on it. Stoneyard is the greatest graveyard of Exathor - the heroes of war from all periods of history have been buried there after rising and falling in the bloody battlefields between Hesperia and Stygia. It is considered an honor to be buried there by the Hesperians. Close to Stoneyard, there are mountains with extremely steep slope, rising like spears from the ground. Atop each of these mesas, monasteries had been built by an old cult to watch over the graves below. Some of these monasteries serve as orphanages now.
In the Stoneyard, there is a Sky Nexus, one of the ancient edifices that help maintain the protective barrier around the island. The guardians of the monasteries are also guardians of the Sky Nexus.

B. Yvangarde Keep
Spoiler:
Yvangarde Keep is an important Hesperian stronghold, as it is the closest one to Stygia and the first Hesperian settlement to be attacked by incoming armies; it has been the target of many attacks in history, but its structure makes it naturally repellent to ground attackers. The Keep is situated on the peak of a mountain, several thousand feet above the valley floor below; an airport is carved in the stone underneath it. Made of fine, grey marble, its towers are tightly bundled together so they could fit atop the peak. Yvangarde is ruled by an ancient line of people, the Silverlaines, who also rule part of the mountains and the desert.

C. Lakeshire
Spoiler:
Lakeshire is a village by the lake of Rainfall, built on the Sea of Grass; the villagers exploit the river's ever flowing water and constantly blowing winds to produce electricity for illuminating their homes by night. The wind blows fresh here, the water is revitalizing and the food is plenty for everyone. The villagers are cheerful and hospitable, always giving strangers a warm welcome, a place to stay and a meal. Some say Lakeshire is the most beautiful and comforting place on Exathor, as it has stayed well away from the dangers of war. Lakeshire contributes to the world trade with energy collected by its wind turbines.

=
D. Fargal Keep
Spoiler:
Falgar Keep was built around the biggest Hesperian town of the east; it is the ancient seat of the Greyland Lords, who continue to rule the sacred forest of the area. The town, as with most Hesperian towns, has an airport built to host a small part of the Hesperian fleet, if need be. The current Lord, Halford Greyland, is a deeply religious man, faithful to Arceus; he has built a great cathedral in His honor, where the people of Falgar gather every Sunday to pray. The town's bells ring when it is time for war, or when the lord that rules the city has passed away. The town is known for the Academy of War, a school made for perfecting the arts of honorable combat, the Hesperian way.

3. Alamagna
Spoiler:
Alamagna is a city that resembles its inhabitants: dark and sinister. Its foundations were built into a grey-stone mountain and a fair portion of the city lies underground. Structures are built on top of and into the mountain. The city boasts the greatest dungeon network of Exathor; Stygian noblemen claim portions of these dungeons as their homes. The main income of the city is the tristanite and silver extracted from the mines. As lavishness is considered a weakness by the Stygians, there are no fine restaurants, no resorts or fancy hotels, no play houses or shows to be held; only taverns and markets offer the kind of service you'd list in 'entertainment', as well as the notorious gladiatorial arena, Tortura. There are thirteen districts in Alamagna, named after their number. The lowest number, the 13th District, is the poorest and filthiest, where people drowned in debt live nearly as slaves. As the number of the district rises, the less poor and filthy the district is; in the 7th, 6th, 5th and 4th Districts, merchants are most common. That's where the market is. Above those numbers, in the first three districts of Alamagna live the noblemen and aristocracy.
The main ruling body of Stygia is called the Stygian High Command, a set of unique kind of leaders: spiritual AND military ones. The High Command consists of five Lord Commanders that represent each of the Stygian Tribes (Vanir, Otori, Tocan and Shukahen); one of these lords is chosen by the Emperor as the Stygian General, the governor of the entire region, which also acts as the Head of High Command. The symbol on the banners of Stygia is an Aggron casting Thunder upon itself.
Stygian Culture
The citizens of Stygia upholds the principle that "only the strong may survive". Honor and compassion are traits that are frowned upon and laughed at, considered as weaknesses. It is only strength and wits that are appreciated, as well as the ability to establish influence. It's the cruel and sharpest who get to live longer in Stygia, as crime is not punished wherever weakness was involved. That is not to say, however, that the state isn't orderly and well-maintained.
For as long as people can remember, the Stygians are divided into five tribes with varying cultures, ideals and characteristics: the Eshir, the Vanir, the Otori, the Tocan and the Shukahen. They all live in different corners of Exathor (see spoilers below for more information on each tribe).
Years in the past, Tortura was a spectacle that was loved by every Stygian, and many of them traveled to the capital to take a seat in the arena to watch the sport. It was a gladiatorial event showcasing warriors of all kinds facing hazardous crucibles of extreme cruelty, all for the entertainment of the spectator.

E. Ascanfell
Spoiler:
Ascanfell is ancient, situated in a complex of mining tunnels that are said to be connected to Alamagna's dungeons. The city belongs to the orderly Eshir tribe and is a pseudo-modern one, built of a mineral called tristanite, which is stronger than steel. The city was built around the grave of the first chieftain of Eshir, Ascan, who had fallen into the great pit, hundreds of years ago. It is one of the the eldest cities of Stygia, as the indestructible mineral it has been built with has allowed it to survive every calamity that befell Exathor.
The Eshir are trained killers, soldiers and warriors who have a peculiar sense of honor: becoming great is their only way to respect you, and you can do that either by foul or couth means. They hold dueling as a sacred way to display your skills and gain honor, and that's mostly how they earn the right to marry and have a family. They have a strict sense of order and discipline and their Commander rules them like a dictator. They were quiet, scary people once, but they've forced to become social, now that the Realm has become singular. Their Lord Commander, Althalos Montfort, is the Head of High Command and General of Stygia.
most common types amongst them: steel, rock, ground, dragon

F. Pyrgos
Spoiler:
Pyrgos is a town and airport, an important Stygian stronghold in the desert. Mainly Pokemon of the desert live there, who are known as the Stygian Tribe Shukahen. They have great universities and libraries which contain books that yield important information about the history of Exathor and theories about histories far before that. The town is openly hospitable to any Stygian and is a strong center of commerce, as it sells flogistron, a special type of fuel that is used for the operation of most modern machines, like the zeppelins of the sky fleets.
The Sukahen pride themselves as keepers of everything ancient and worth remembering of, as well as seekers of knowledge; the greatest historians and explorers come from the desert region where the Sukahen live. They're basically a collection of explorers, historians, scientists and merchants from all the other Stygian tribes, and as such, they bear characteristics from every other tribe. They once live as nomads, not having any major strongholds; they're calculating but harmless negotiators who would rather talk than fight. Their current Lord Commander, Teneth Windseer, is a silent and friendly leader.

G. Wrothgar
Spoiler:
The Vanir living in this town were forced to abandon their homes in the northern forests during a cataclysmic event known as the Great Sundering, which torn their part of Exathor right off the rest of the island. The Great Sundering left behind a scar on the wastes of Stygia, the Deathbringer's Mark, a dead land where nothing grows. As a result, Wrothgar trades the minerals it collects from the Mark with berries and food. The clouds overhead are usually thick and dark, so it always seems like nighttime in the town.
The Vanir are moody people who aren't very hospitable and have a reputation for being dark and treacherous. Their Commander, Alucianna Vandrmonde, is calculating and selfish - she and her people are focused around their own survival, after their separation from the forest where their tribe grew up. In the dark of the Deathbringer's Mark, an endless crater carved right across the Grey Waste, they are safe from possible attackers. They still hold a great sense of pride, though, because some time in the past, they were the most powerful and dangerous people of Stygia. As such, they still want to have a solid say in the politics of Exathor.
most common types amongst them: dark, ghost, poison, ice

H. Telmor
Spoiler:
Telmor is a city carved into the trees of a great, dark swamp that belongs entirely to the Stygian Tribe Tocan. The folk of Telmor are poor, so the city is in quite a despicable state, but the strength of its military is almost unmatched in strength and ingenuity. According to those who have gone in a war against Tocan and lived to tell of it, the woods around the area of Telmor come alive when threatened, to fight beside the Tocan protecting the town. The residents have to hunt for food, as most types of berries do not grow in their cold swamps.
The Tocan are talented hunters and warriors who have proven to be notoriously ferocious and bloodthirsty. They have no honor to speak of - they fight with poison, guerrilla tactic and a mastery of their own terrain. They're violent, unruly, headstrong people who may kill each other over a sausage, and are considered a volatile military threat to Exathor.

The Stygian Rebellion
The peace in the sky-gliding island has been restored with the coming of the Gold Tribe, but not without trouble. Many conflicts have risen in the near-five hundred years the peacekeepers have been on the island, though not at the large scale of the old wars between Hesperia and Stygia. The last conflict appeared nine years ago: the rebellion of two of the five Lord Commanders of the Stygian Tribes. Two tribes, Vanir and Tocan, joined forces to overthrow the Head of the Stygian High Command, Althalos Montfort, also Lord Commander of the Eshir tribe. The tribe's intent was to reach Alamagna and siege it, but the joined effort of Eshir, Otori and the Gold Tribe forced them in a battle in the Deathbringer's Mark, where they yielded, abandoning their rebellion.
In the present, Vanir and Tocan have risen again in rebellion, and the tribe of Shukahen with them as well. Their renewed fury has allowed them to outmaneuver the defenders of peace in the Deathbringer's Mark, and now they are laying siege on the Stygian Capital Alamagna. The Gold Tribe survivors from the last battle have all retreated in the city and are preparing a last stand to protect the city from the invaders.
Engagement
You are one of the remaining members of the Gold Tribe in Alamagna; you can either be a rookie, or a well-respected, important and accomplished member whose voice is appreciated in the matters of war. As a member of the Gold Tribe, you have to listen and carry out commands of the leader, Garland Fordring, or the Emperor himself, but you may speak freely against them.
The Gold Tribe: The Gold Tribe is a brotherhood of elite fighters united under a single cause: to protect the Realm and the Emperor's peace and solve all conflicts that arise. They are peacekeepers, trained to die defending the Realm against powerful enemies. One of their secondary duties is to protect important figures of authority like the members of the Council. The members of the tribe are treating each other like family, often referring to each other as 'brother' and 'sister'. They are vigilant, selfless protectors of the people with a deep sense of honor and duty, and treat people, especially their own, with respect. The tribe is usually led by a leader, elected often by the former leader based on their worthiness for leadership. Commonly, there is a person Second-In-Command. The members of the Gold Tribe can be indentified by golden emblems/insignias that each member wears somewhere on their bodies, in the form of a necklace, a bracelet, an armband, etc. Usually, in order to join the Gold Tribe, one must have graduated from the Exathian College of Union and Liberty (ECUL).

9. Have fun, that's a rule. If you find yourself not having fun, you're free to tell me, and we'll work things out like polite people, hm?
Credits
To SV, first and foremost. For all the things I've learned from him, for all the motivation and inspiration he has given me, for permitting me to continue the tale of the Gold Tribe. Cheers, bud!
To Cirrus, for letting me use his wonderful CSS code for the layout of the thread. Thanks!
To GastlyGibus and linkandzelda, for support! You're awesome, people.
To Whispered (band), for making godly music that kept my ears easy company during the time of this thread's making (a time of madness, that is).
To various artists, which I took the art displayed in the thread from.

Vaults of Reflection
The Vaults of Reflection are dedicated to the safekeeping and constant updating of all the amassed historical records and knowledge of Exathor. Each section is a series of sealed rooms, chambers, halls and corridors, all of which serve as storage for vast amounts of information, compiled into massive compendiums and albums of immense historical importance. But there are personal chambers as well, rented by individuals who requested that their information was stored. It is in these private chambers where the memories of an individual are stored, and the ability to 'view' them has become available - through the following novels:
Frank's Vault - A Tour Through Exathian History
Colossus's Vault - The Windseer Rebellion
Achilles's Vault - The Sacred Fruit
Cassandra and Tavhir's Vault - Reminiscing
Jacob's Vault - Trespassing
Thrasher's Vault - Thrasher's Tales
Sophia's Vault - A Childhood Friend
