    [PokeCommunity.com] 11/20 - COTD - Salamence (DP: Secret Wonders)

Thanks to Water Pokemon Master from www.pokebeach.com for the scan.

This card would be nicer, if it wasn't for the high retreat cost. The Dragon Finish is a good attack, but you'll need to retreat if you don't have the special energies, as it will take forever to charge. Still, with the high HP (140?!), the weakness, the first attack (two for 50), it will be around for a while.

One of the better Sala cards I've seen in a while. 7.5/10.

The Hp and resistance are awesome, but the rest is pretty average for a stage 2.
It's retreat cost is terrible and easily makes this card a sitting duck if it doesn't have the energy (some Dragon Finishes later). Its weakness to colourness is a problem if your opponent plays Blissey, but then again, this card is so slow, you'd probably lose before then anyway. =D

Direct Hits a solid 50 for CC and would make a fair back up attack, however when you're scrambling for the right energy cards this damage won't be enough. Dragon Finish is 100 to anything, when you're opponent is building something, it's brilliant. But the lack of energy manipulation this card has causes a big problem.
Unlike Blaziken/ex, this card will have problems returning the energy back from the discard to Salamence to use again. Worst of, it requires BASIC energy so you can't simply slap on a DRE for some quick sniping.

    I wouldn't play it. >_>

Not the best salamence graphic I've ever seen. But like that matters. :D

It just strikes me as one of those cards that you have to be really lucky to pull off. And I really don't like that weakness. I mean, sheesh, you could have a rattata dealing you 50 damage per turn. Takes two turns to charge the first attack, but by then that rattata has 100 damage on you. It just doesn't seem versatile enough to get to those water/fire energy cards. In other words, its pretty much all attack.

(My opinion. I haven't played or collected since aqua/magma, so there have probably been some game mechanics changes.)
