1st edition?

    im searching for some base set cards. whats the difference between 1st and second edition and how can i tell? is it just base set 1 and base set 2?

    A 1st edition is the first printing of a set, and it should have a 1 in a circle to the lower left, with "edition" printed in a half-circle above it. This happened for every set Wizards of the Coast printed except Base Set 2, which went straight into the unlimited print run and is a fusion of cards from the Base Set 1 and Jungle sets. Base Set 1 had an unlimited (without the "First Edition" logo) printing, just like every other Base Set 1 has no symbol to the lower right of the picture, while Base Set 2 (which doesn't have a first edition) should have a "2" with a PokéBall through it.
     
    there are first edition base set with shadows though as well right? and 1st edition shadowless.
     
    so can you name the sets which do have a first edition?
    sets like platinum now and all the ex's are just all the same as each other right?

    Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, Rocket, Gym Challenge, Gym Heroes, Neo Genesis, Neo Discovery, Neo Revelation, and Neo Destiny have first editions. Before Expedition, only Legendary Collection and Base Set 2 (both reprint sets), as well as the promotional cards, didn't have first editions. From Legendary on (this was the actual last set printed by Wizards), each card has had a reverse-holofoil version (which is where everything but the picture is holographic), except cards numbered outside of the number series in a set, such as Ex or Lv. X. Also, some of the sets since then have it where the uncommon and common cards have versions with holofoil pictures and the set logo that appears on the boosters in the lower right corner of the picture.
     
    so like with the new platinum set. it contains 127 cards i think but most come in 2 different foils and some non foil and foil of the same one. so too collect the whole set im looking around 200 cards. or do people only class 1 of either card a set.

    I, because I am a lazy collector, classify 1 of a card (no matter its form), as having it for the set. I mostly prefer to play.
