2008 NFL SEASON

My dad really gets into the games. He'll get really mad and shout when Dallas makes a boneheaded play. (But, he's been a fan since 1972)

If Dallas doesn't get to Tampa; Wade Phillips out; Jason Garrett in

Is that what the NFL has come to? Dallas did very well last year and even if they don't make the Super Bowl there's NO way they should fire the guy. Making rash decisions like that would be incredibly stupid on The Cowboys' part. Just look at Indianapolis - Tony Dungy had multiple failures in the playoffs and people were patient, and they won a Super Bowl. I mean really, Dallas did awesome last season and I would honestly laugh if they made any major coaching changes after next season, unless the Cowboys regress incredibly.

I wouldn't have such high hopes for Dallas either. Tony Romo hasn't been exactly an all-star in the playoffs, where he and the entire team has faltered. The Cowboys still haven't proven that they can win big games and until they do, I'm not betting a penny on them. They also have a lot of "trouble players" in Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson, and of course, the terrible teammate himself, Terrell Owens. I don't know how long that team is going to be able to stay on their best behavior. They'll probably win the NFC East and might get over the hump and win a playoff game, but I don't think they're getting to the Super Bowl.

Teams with high expectations crash all the time. Remember a few years ago when everybody thought the Panthers and Dolphins were going to the Super Bowl? Poor Dolphins T____T A year before that, the Vikings were the hot pick and they didn't do especially well themselves.

As for my own picks, I think that the standard Colts/Patriots AFC thing will dominate, unlike last year where the Chargers beat the Colts. The NFC is always unpredictable, but I wouldn't count out the Lions. They actually pulled together a decent season last year, and without Favre, Green Bay isn't exactly a powerhouse. The Bears...I could win the starting Quarterback job there. The Vikings could be good, especially if they get Favre, but their QB situation is also in the air. The Lions could definitely improve and get the ten wins Jon Kitna guaranteed last year (lol what was he thinking) in a rather average devision (and conference for that matter).

Oh yes! NFL thread FTW! Me=diehard packer fan ^_^

Brett Favre is fail, just ask me. I'm a firm believer of that!

Okay, I will ask, how could you say one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of National Football League... fail? ._.; I mean, he may be running around teams and in and out of retirement, but you can't deny the fact he's a hall of fame QB.

Speaking of that division, I think the Vikings come out on top. They may have some QB issues, but they'll grow into it. I think the Vikings are going to be white hot this season, RBs leading the way.

Okay, maybe fail was a harsh word to use. Let's just say that I'm not as big of a Brett Favre fan as I was last season ^_^

owens has been fine the past two years he's been on the cowboys. he has a nice quarterback that throws it to him, and as long as he's happy, he behaves well. i'm not sure about adam jones, but if he's serious about dropping "pacman" and starting fresh, why not the chance?

Anti-Pop, if you think this Cowboys' team has a lot of troubled players. During the 90's, the Cowboys were in some serious heat. So many players got arrested for drugs and other things that it makes Adam Jones, Tank Johnson and Terrel Owens seem like choir boys

Too bad that was in the 90's, SD. XD Nah, I don't think those guys will cause Dallas problems. Pacman will have to suck it up for that locker room, they won't mess around. Tank Johnson gets such a bad rap, I honestly think... with the way he worked and showed his commitment, he's a new player. Owens is Owens, currently, Owens is happy, so all is well.

If there's any "distraction" in Dallas, everyone stop looking at those three and point your fingers at Romo. *walks away silently before SD flames*

Sure, like they haven't done that before!

Who got the blame for Dallas' last two playoff defeats? Romo. The guy has enough pointed fingers at him. But it's time they looked at the playcalling. Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett should be on the hot seat. (But not Garrett anymore because he'll be Phillips' replacement if Dallas doesn't win a playoff game this year)

We've waited for 10 years for a playoff victory. This is our year!

Sorry, had to disable that text. XD;;

Enough pointed fingers? Well, because they're valid reasons to keep blaming him for the playoff missed opportunities. A smart quarterback doesn't go on a break before the first playoff game, simple as that really. In my opinion, I don't know about the play calling, but if you're going to through them on the hot seat, throw Romo on there with them. He has yet to prove himself, thus hot-seat-a-fied...able. XD; I mean, come on SD, here's Romo flirting and (rumored) to get married and all this celebrity talk. I think he's eating the camera flashes instead of grass. ;/ Where's the determination and effort? Coaching, eh, I haven't follow that much, but I suppose I could agree with that. But just because we've blamed Romo in the past doesn't mean we still can't blame him. (If that makes any sense @_@)

And that hat style is another "OMG POINT POINT POINT >:O" moment. *shot*

It is about time for a playoff victory, agreed.

I still don't get why in the world either of them should be even close to the hot seat! After one year (and a very good one at that) and people are already calling for the guy's job? That's simply ludicrous. The Colts lost in the first round last year as well. So if they don't make the Super Bowl are we going to be calling for Dungy's head? Of course not! How about Mike Tomlin from the Steelers?

There is no reason to fire Wade Phillips after this season (unless they really regress, but we all know that probably won't happen). You can't win the Super Bowl every year - it took Tony Dungy and Bill Cowher quite a bit of time to win it. Seriously, be happy with who you have because you guys had a great year last year. Meanwhile my Dolphins had Cam Cameron and a 1-15 record. The Dolphins have been a lot worse in the past ten years than the Cowboys...just be patient.

But wow I am just really baffled, especially if Phillips really IS on the hot seat. If he is I will laugh seeing as I would have loved to go for double digit wins last year and a first round bye. Don't take what you have for granted because at least 80% of the league was worse than the Cowboys last year.

So I ask you, what in the world would firing Wade Phillips after only two seasons help? Even after three I don't think it would be solving anything. If Jason Garrett was as great as people keep hyping them to be, it would have made a lot more sense for the Cowboys to just hire him rather than Phillips last year when they had the chance.

They say that every year >_> I think they probably will, but I'm definitely not placing any bets on it.

Also about the character issues, like Beachy said this isn't the last decade. Look at the Cincinnati Bengals last year. They have talent (well on offense anyways), but it all kind of went to waste. The Cowboys' situation isn't nearly as bad but anything is possible with Terrell Owens. I really wouldn't be so naive and trust him now. He could very easily turn on Romo just like he did with his quarterbacks in San Francisco and Philadelphia.

I agree Tank Johnson has been a bit over exaggerated, but that doesn't mean that the media won't bother the team all the time about his (and Pacman's) situation. It's like Barry Bonds...even when he isn't in trouble it's still a circus. But seriously, you really should not feel safe from an internal self destruct when TO is on your team. Good behavior never lasts forever with him. Until he proves me wrong, I'm not trusting his ability to not destroy the team he's on.

Pacman always gets arrested. I really am hoping he turns his life around, but if he doesn't, that will be more of a pain for Dallas.

cowboys have an HBO series the 6th

patience...i remember being the one who's team went 5-11 for a 3rd straight year while my friends, a jets fan, giants fan, rams fan, bucs fan, and an eagles fan all made fun. (even though the eagle fan didnt count. he just picked the best team at the time)

hey hey hey... pre-season game chargers vs, cowboys this week! BRING IT ON! Even though it's only pre-season....

Preseason is only important to give the rookies and second and third stringers time to play. When Week 1 kicks off it's a whole different story.

Because this is a preseason game, both Dallas and San Diego won't use their starters the whole game. But, Dallas has a good offense and defense, but so does San Diego. I say Dallas will win, but by maybe a last second FG

I like both teams, so it's fine for me.

Eagles WON'T win the NFC East. Every other team is better. Dallas and Washington made big deals in free agency (Dallas got Adam Jones) and Washington got Jason Taylor. New York didn't make any positive moves, but lost a lot of power players. Dallas will win the NFC East because Dallas, unlike everyone else, is more complete. And Dallas didn't lost any star players, they kept all the players that got them to 13-3 (except Terry Glenn, who didn't do much last year anyway)

But all the teams in the NFC East will finish above .500 win pct (percentage)

looks like I'm gonna watch Jacob Hester and Cromartie's cousin play.. wooo. 0_0
