According to Pokemon.com, the new Modified format will be HGSS-on. However, it may be implemented on July 1st rather than the usual September 1st due to concerns about the new rule changes and cards like Sableye from Stormfront. It appears that they will use the Spring Battle Roads to gauge how much of an impact the new rules will have in our current format. We will know for sure sometime in June.

Anyways, the good news is that SP's will finally be gone from competitive play for good, which means no more fearing Garchomp C lv. X or Luxray GL lv. X! As I predicted last year, SP's dominated just about every tournament this past year.

    Major losses include the following:

    Bebe's Search
    Uxie
    All SP cards
    Spritomb
    Expert Belt
    Broken Time-Space
    Sableye

If I forgot anything in this list, mention it!

Well we saw a lot of arceus being played around here and that's all gone, along with azelf LA, mesprit LA, warp point, call energy, warp energy, cyclone energy, gyarados SF, machamp SF... I am excited for this new change because I've never played in a format that wasn't constantly being stomped by SP, but it's also a really daunting thought that I may have to build an entirely new deck for a totally different format just one month before nats.

I didn't think they would go all the way to HGSS to be honest, they've been really backing off rotation the past few seasons with the lack of rotation last year and then keeping D&P in the format this year, even though D&P hasn't been relevant to the video games for a long time. I had hoped for RR-on so that SP would be rotated, but we would still have a chance to try all those other cards from the platinum block that were never used because they couldn't keep up. However, HGSS is fine by me because all I really want to see in the format is something fresh and challenging.

I like the fact that the SP's are gone. But then I don't, because one of the best decks I have is an SP deck lol

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of SP by now. I was hoping flygon would get to see a comeback, plus there are so many interesting lv x's from the other platinum sets that never got to see play, salamence, tangrowth, drapion, etc. But, if the motivation is to slow down the format then I guess it's better to get rid of all the lv x's.

So what decks do you all think are going to see play? I can see cinccino being the new speedy donk deck, maybe donphan prime and the new zekrom for speed as well.

Yes, ninetales/typhlosion is slowly getting hyped again, because it is the only really viable draw engine in the next format. There's magnezone which is a stage two and only caps your hand at six, and engineer's adjustments, but you don't want to waste a supporter slot when you could just be doing it as a pokepower. It will probably also see play because half the engine is available as a tin promo, so all you have to find is ninetales.
