2016- The year of Ace Attorney?

    So, for people who keep an eye on Capcom, you've probably heard about all the Ace Attorney news that's been floating around lately.

    A series that lied relatively dormant and unseen since Apollo Justice suddenly started pumping out games. On top of our three new games, one, sadly, not getting localized, we have another one on the horizon, and an anime? The trilogy for the 3DS? Some AA themes? What did we do to deserve this? It's like Christmas for lawyers!

    So, my question is- why? Why is Capcom suddenly boosting this series beyond belief? It could be considered a bit of a cult classic, but did it take this long for them to realize that?

    Also, what do you guys think about all these announcements? Are you excited for the new game and anime? Scared they're gonna muck it up? Any hopes or wishes?
     
    Well, it was never all that dormant in Japan. The original trilogy came out in 2001 and the DS remakes are what we got. Since the remakes in 2006/2007, there have only been two years in Japan where there wasn't a new release of some sort. (There's a timeline to the right of the games section on the wiki article.)

    They've been re-releasing the original trilogy on other platforms (iOS, Virtual Console) for years so the 3DS remaster is just a port of those with the updated (but not as charming as sprites, imo) art. The new games are just... more of the same, really!

    The only games we've missed out on are spinoffs, which doesn't seem like too big a deal. I don't think the original Edgeworth spinoff did well here so we didn't get its sequel and DaiGyakuten... well, I haven't played it for myself yet but I have a lot of friends who said it didn't feel the same as the other games and I didn't hear much about it even in Japanese fandom. I think the headache of localizing it probably wouldn't have been worth the few sales they could expect. But it's exciting to hear they're already committed to localizing the next real sequel in the series! I was a little worried they wouldn't.

    Anyway, I'm definitely excited for all the new content but I never really thought there was a significant dearth in AA stuff, even in the West. :x
     
    Haven't played an AA game since Dual Destinies in 2014 so it's cool if we in the US can get AA 6 next year. I know that Japan got a game recently, but as SyntaxRaven said we are not really lacking for Ace Attorney content even in the West. Fans of the game have a plethora of choices to choose from which is cool. I don't have a 3DS anymore so I can't play Dual Destinies but when I'm bored I do want to play the other ones (DD is the only one I've played lol). I didn't know about the AA anime but that would be cool too! However, while we see a new AA game in 2016, I don't think that it will be the year for AA because of how frequently the games have come out and they're not super big in the West.
     
    I love seeing all the love Capcom is giving Ace Attorney lately. But I want just one thing and one thing only, and that is for the anime to not completely suck.
