--- the STORY ---

Ten years prior to the beginning of midnight a mysterious phenomenon that has come to be known only as the Event shook the very foundations of the Earth and of human society. A strange form of radiation, unknown to even the most brilliant of our scientists, that appeared to originate from space made contact with the Earth. That was when all hell broke loose.

Earthquakes tore cities apart, tsunamis ravaged nations and unpredictable and strange weather began to affect the human race all across the globe. In what could only be described as an apocalyptic scenario nearly every location in the globe fell to pieces. As it always has though, the human race struggled through the disaster caused by the event – scarred but far from broken. They were not the only ones to emerge from the wreckage of our cities though, contractors, dolls and moratoria also appeared and the night sky vanished replaced instead by a false image in which stars represented the lives of contractors.

With whole nations in ruins the majority of nations fell under martial law, the USA was no different. The military run the cities of the US now outranked only by the most upper echelons of the government. The question of who to blame for the disaster still remained though, even under what appeared to be the restored order brought by the military. With nobody to blame and the sudden emergence of contractors, society soon turned on them – blaming contractors and the like for the event and fearing their supernatural gifts. Soon the government, influenced heavily by the military, ruled that anyone discovered to be a contractor, doll or moratorium would be eliminated and a new organisation was created solely for searching for and assassinating the beings the Event had spawned and researching their abilities and the Event itself, the Supernatural Research and Control Agency (SRCA), who were to be controlled by the military.

Ten years later and the military and the SRCA still patrol the streets of ruined cities. Some semblance of normality seems to have settled over the world but each and every nation on the Earth is still a dangerous and unstable place. Contractors, moratoria and dolls rarely walk in the open anymore and are forced into lives of crime and servitude under criminal syndicates as they try to survive in a world where they are constantly pursued by the SRCA.​

--- the FACTIONS ---

the CONTRACTORS ---

Contractors are human in almost every sense but are usually characterised as separate from ordinary humans due to two factors. Firstly, each contractor possesses a single supernatural gift be it electro kinesis or something like freezing liquids – the ability depends on the contractor and whilst some have the same ability there are usually subtle differences. Attached to this is the presence of an obeisance (also called remuneration). After using their ability a contractor is psychologically compelled to complete a task, many of these are rather harmless (like poetry) but some contractors must even self harm. The second distinction between a contractor and a regular human is that each contractor has a corresponding star in the false sky. This stars movements and activity can be used to track the activities and if the contractor dies, the star will vanish.

There is a common belief that contractors are emotionless killers but this is far from the truth. Contractors do have the "advantage" of a brain that will rarely consider the taking of a life as irrational if it makes sense at the time, but again this depends on the contractor.

the MORATORIA ---

A moratorium is very similar to a contractor but there are a few differences. Like a contractor a moratorium has a corresponding star as well as a special gift, unlike a contractor though they do not need to pay an obeisance for using their gift. The situation of a moratorium is more complicated – they have no control over their powers whatsoever and will fall in to trances where they have no traces of their original personality whilst using their powers.

It is not unheard of for moratoria to become full contractors (at which point they gain an obeisance) but they are generally more feared due to their inability to control their gifts.

the DOLLS ---

Unlike a contractor or a moratorium a Doll truly is emotionless, but they also do not pose as much of a threat as they do not possess the same powers as contractors or moratoria. A doll has no personality of their own and can be "programmed" to take on the personality or memories of another person – other times they are programmed to retain their original identity and memories but lack a personality or emotions (although both can sometimes resurface).

Despite having no skills that could be used offensively Dolls are useful for espionage and spying not just because of their nature but because they have the ability to use observation spirits. Observation spirits can travel through a medium acting as the eyes and ears of the dolls (each doll will have a single specific medium however).

the SRCA ---

The Supernatural Research and Control Agency are a government organisation under the control of the military. They are tasked with studying contractors, moratoria and dolls and eliminating contractors and moratoria as they are perceived as threats to humanity. They will often make use of dolls as spies and will use them as research subjects because they will not fight back but they also have no qualms in killing them if they for some reason evade capture or are aiding a contractor/moratorium.

The SRCA can be noticed by their tendency to wear black body armour over their clothing. They are known to carry a wide range of weapons and tools, and are specially trained for combat against supernatural enemies.​

--- the SETTING ---

Midnight: A Darker than Black RP is set in the post-apocalyptic city of San Francisco. The richest areas of the city sustained some of smallest amounts of damage in the entire country due to the strong structures built to withstand frequent Earthquakes but the majority of the city is pretty much in ruins. Streets and buildings are crumbling or ruined completely and many people are forced to live in dilapidated structures and hastily built accommodation. Patrols by the standard military and the SRCA as well as navy patrols of the nearby waterways are frequent and shoddy marketplaces have taken the place of most stores and supermarkets in the poorest areas of the city. Even the Golden Gate Bridge has suffered a lot of damage and now it is traversed much less frequently.

The nearby island of Alcatraz serves as a headquarters, research facility and if necessary prison for the SRCA.

--- the GAMEPLAY ---

Midnight is a sandbox RP but will contain some more linear events to progress the story occasionally – these will be advertised in the OP. In between mandatory events players will be free to pursue the story arcs of their own characters and interact at will.

Each player will be allowed a maximum of two characters (only one spot in the RP will be filled however) but will only be allowed to have on character who is supernatural and one who is a regular human. Furthermore, due to the emotionless nature of dolls, RPers must seek GM permission in order to submit a character that is a doll.

1. GM word is law.
2. Do not bunny without permission and do not god mod.
3. Ask permission before posting a doll SU (give a good reasoning as to why).
4. This is a sandbox RP so feel free to create NPC's at will and pursue your own characters story. That's what this is all about.
5. Follow any mandatory events posted.
6. You may reserve a place in this RP. Reservations will expire after three days but if there is still space available after that time you are still welcome to post an SU.
7. If you take on multiple characters only one of them can be a contractor or moratorium. The other must be a doll or a member of the SRCA.
8. Follow all forum rules and be respectful and polite to your fellow RPers.

Leon Blair

Leon entered the run down old tavern stepping out of a freak thunder storm into the dingily lit room. The tavern was a seedy joint – dingily lit with bordered up windows, a lingering odour that could only be described as a combination of liquor, cigarette smoke and God-knows-what-else and crammed full of shady characters such as the several young men and women who were members of one of San Francisco's many street gangs.

Leon wiped the rain water away from his eyes as he walked across the filthy room towards the equally filthy counter. The weather in San Francisco had always been rather chilly when compared to other places in the US but ever since the Event strange weather such as the current mid-summer thunder storm had become far more common. Leon sat on a rickety wooden stool at the counter and pulled a slip of paper and a black pen from the satchel that hung over his shoulder. The paper was lined with algebraic equations, much like a test sheet – this was Leon's obeisance as a contractor, if he used his power at all he would be psychologically compelled to complete mathematical equations. They didn't have to be difficult but the young contractor found he got bored with doing simple sums all the time. Leon began to fill in the answers; the sheet in front of him wasn't particularly difficult for him as he had done several similar ones in his life time.

Leon had barely begun fulfilling his obeisance when he heard the voice from across from him.
"Buy a drink or get out." The source of the voice game from a chubby and grimy, apron-wearing man in his fifties -in other words, the stereotypical bartender. Leon narrowed his eyes at the grouchy old man before answering
"Water?"
"Five bucks kid, that or leave." Leon sighed as he retrieved the designated sum from his pocket and dumped it on the table, soon finding a surprisingly clean (albeit chipped) glass of water in the place of the note.
Five dollars for water? In an age like this where the majority of us are poor? Wonderful to see that the human race is as appalling as ever. Despite his irritation at the old man Leon found it difficult to truly despise him, the reason his merchandise was overpriced was because he needed the cash to stay alive and nobody else in the area was likely to have clean water, so it worked out for him.

Leon continued to sit at the counter completing the worksheet and sipping the drink, there was no point of him hurrying despite the cargo within his bag; he still had several hours until he had to meet with his employer. This cargo was confidential documents from a weapons manufacturing company – what they contained he didn't know nor care about. The only thing that Leon was interested in was getting them to his employer and collecting his fee, not that he was happy about being forced to live a life of crime enslaved by crime syndicates.
One day contractors will be able to live out normal lives. That's enough reason to keep living like this.

Chris Lanard & John Black

Chris sat there in the corner about five feet away from the man who had just entered. This man stood out like a cow in a hen house.

"I don't think you should talk to him" Chris began, "He looks like a big meanie"

John stared at chris as he spoke to himself again. He couldn't help it. He just found this method Chris has of speaking so... so fascinating.

Chris continued "But what if he's a nice meanie?"

"There's no such thing..." Chris finished and sat back into the cushion of his chair, John then stood and walked over to the man that chris was watching. For some odd reason he was now solving equations? John sat for a moment. Chris still stared in their direction as if his mind was in another world.

John ordered another drink and tasted it. It tasted like watered down beer. He insisted on not complaining about it though and began to speak. "Sir? If I could just have a second of you time?"

Carley Roberts

A man with long brown hair, freckles all over his face, missing all his teeth, and a short beard. Apparently his name was Charlie, and was frequently found at a run-down tavern in the broken part of San-Francisco. Carley curled her hair around her finger a couple times before she got out of her seat. The plane was about to land, now she would be doing bounty work in the disgusting city of San-Francisco.

"You have until midnight tonight, if you cannot fulfill your job, your contract will be terminated." The man who had been sitting across from Carley spoke to her. "We have a good feeling about you, young lady." He smirked. "Well... young whatever the hell you things are." Carley glared at the man and quickly strode off the plane. Who does that bloody **** think he is?! She stormed around the desolate airport. People of all sorts of shapes and sizes filled the tiny building.

Apparently the old nice international one was broken down in the incident, those many years ago. Carley coughed. What is that smell?! Back home in England almost everything had survived the phenomenon. All it had left behind where the contractors, dolls, and moratoriums. In the midst of all this, Carley found out about her new powers, and the price that came with them. Not only her obeisance but, being labeled as a freak and treated as an outcast. It had cost Carley her dignity, her job, her friends, and what little family she had left. That is why she was now here in the disgusting ruins of America doing work fit for some street thugs.

The Jolly Ol' Tavern... Disgusting Carley walked into the saloon and almost fell over from the stench that had engulfed her. She had gotten used to the gritty nature of the city now but, the scent always hit her hard. Carley recovered and looked around. "Gangsters, thugs, hoes... Oh my!" She smiled at her own little joke.

Mr. Charlie was scheduled to be coming to the tavern in almost an hour. I guess i have some time to spare Carley thought as she walked up to the bar. "Hit me up with a Newcastle Brown." The bartender smiled. "I'm sorry m'lady." He spoke in a mock British accent. "We do not have such a fancy liquor in our humble establishment." The whole tavern burst out laughing.

Carley gritted her teeth. "You shut your arse up... You disgusting little filth... You cannot talk to me like that!" Her voice rose with ever word. "Keep that up and see what happens." "Yes ma'am, im very sorry. Here is some tea and crimpits for you." The bartender kept up the act and the tavern once again burst out into laughter. "You asked for it..." Carley whispered. "I told you to shut the hell up!" She yelled as she pulled out 2 Russian Nagant Revolvers. Carley grinned. "Do it again for me."

Chris and john

The moon hung in the sky, like being held by gods. Chris sat on the sidewalk of the street he used to live on. The memories of his mother grew larger each second. "I don't think she ever really loved you." He began speaking to himself again. John sat there staring at him. John felt no sympathy for Chris at all. This wasn't because he didn't want to, but simply because he couldn't.

"Chris, do you miss them?" John politely asked. It shocked Chris slightly that his partner would worry about him.

"Sometimes I do, but not all the time" Chris shrugged as if he wanted to say something else. They all hated you! This thought echoed in his head. Thay all hated you! All hated you! Hated you! Chris's began to cry without even noticing.

"Is something bothering you Chris?" Everything around the two began to freeze. "Chris! You need to calm down!" Something about Chris then changed. It was as if he had several personalities caged up inside of him.

In a scared tone, Chris whispered "Seth? Have you ever been scared?" Chris stood up with a faint grin on his face.

"I'd be lying if I said no..." john trembled in fear at Chris. He had seen this many times. "I think you should calm down chris."

"This is agent lox, I'm approaching the newly met target" a faint voice came from the distance. Chris turned to face the SCRA agent. The expression on his face hadn't changed at all while doing so.

"If you hurt this man, I'll let you live Seth" chris stated and backed away as john pulled out his knife. The blade on it instantly froze.

"Wa... wait! What are you saying!" The agent backed away and aimed his rifle at john. He had no chance. Within seconds the agent was laying on ground with his neck sliced open. John turned to Chris who was now sitting on the sidewalk again playing with an piece of ice.

"Here, you should probably do this yourself" john insisted while handing his blood stained blade to Chris. Chris then rolled up his sleeve and began to cut away at his skin.

"Blood is pretty Seth" Chris whispered. This made john sick. He couldn't bare watching something so disturbing. He turned away and began to listen to the sounds of the city. Across the street was a bar. From this bar john could hear loud laughter.

"How about we get something to drink Chris?" John insisted while Chris rolled his sleeve back down. He began to walk across the road, and Chris fallowed.

Shion Hougi

Shion had been caught. Three of SRCA had found her. Shion ran around the corner and up an alleyway. Shion was still charging her electricity in her glove. Before Shion could turn the next corner, a bullet flew past her face. In the direction of the shot a woman handgun trembled in her hands.

"D-don't m-move." The woman said, her voice shaken with fear. The woman had to be in her thirties.

Shion had no where to run. To the left and right were to large buildings. If she went back, she'd be running straight into her death. Shion wasn't afraid, but she didn't want to waste time on humans. "Are you afraid?" Shion said stepping closer.

"St-stay back! I'm n-not afraid t-to shoot!" The woman said fearfully, taking a step back as Shion moved closer.

At this, Shion grinned. Shion began to rush toward the girl, focusing a little electricity into her index finger. The woman shoot at Shion, who dodged easily. Shion pierced the forehead with her finger, killing her by forcing the electricity through her body from her brain. "Sweet dreams." Shion said removing her finger a the woman fell to the ground. Shion used her fing and singed her 29 lightning bolt on her neck. Shion dashed off. "One down, two to go." Shion said. Shion heard footsteps hand hid behind a dumpster.

It was the other two agents. They were talking about something. This was Shion's chance to get rid of them. Shion whistled, signalling the agents. When they they where in range Shion walked out slowly with her hands up. "I surrender." Shion announced walking toward the agents.

"Don't play games with us." A man said. Pointing a gun at her.

"Alright, alright. You got me. But before you shoot, notice where you stand." Saiyuu annouced. As they agents looked down, they were standing in water. "My nicknames Electro. It's been a pleasure knowing you all." Shion said grinning, releasing all the stored electricity through her feet as she stepped into the puddle. The agents dropped to their knees and fell. Shion singed two more bolts in her neck. "31. I've used my power to cause 31 deaths." Shion murmured.



Sakumaru Tendo

Saku had been atop one of the buildings Shion was trapped between. That girl was a contractor. Nice to know some factions are still in shape. I haven't seen a contractor in ages. He hadn't see a doll or moramorita in ages either. They had all gone into hiding because those pathetic humans had sentenced some of them to death. Saku had never cared for human lives, even seeing what just unfolded did not change that. Saku walked down the stairs of the building.

There were cracks and holes down this part of town. The buildings were collapsing and humans were afraid. The world around us was becoming a living hell. There wasn't much of anything left. The humans world was becoming a home for something greater. A home for darkness. The crime rate was so high the humans had organized a supernatural crime unit called the SRCA. Their world was changing. And it's only a matter off time before they are erased.

Alex Brody

A loud metallic knock awoke Alex from his sleep. He turned around and faintly opened his eyes to see a solider standing in the doorway beating on the door. "Come on Alex get your ass up! The CO wants to see you right away!" The soldier stopped banging and proceeded to walk away. Alex rose out of his bed with a groan. "What the hell does the CO want with me? I'm just a corporal" he thought to himself. He walked over to a small sink he had in his room, splashed some water in his face, gave a smile to the mirror and was on his way to see the Commanding Officer.

He soon reached the Commanding Officer's room. He knocked on the door and was told to come in. Upon entering he saw the CO and two people he didn't know. Probably of much higher rank no doubt. He gave a salute to the CO and was told to sit down. The CO sat back in his chair, he didn't say much, just sat there studying Alex. "You see much action son?" the CO finally spoke with a rough, gravely voice. "No sir, mostly low level stuff. Riots, Break ins, Crowd control" Alex replied.

"Alright, well we're sending you into the city undercover. You'll be tasked with getting more information about these contractors." "Keep a low profile" he added slowly. "This is a reconnaissance mission, not a kick down the door all guns blazing job. Understood?" "Yes sir understood. One question though when do I move out?" Alex replied.

"Whenever you get your gear, you'll find that down in the armoury, once you have that proceed to the dock and there'll be a man there waiting to ship you over to the city. Now move out son, and stay safe out there" said the CO as he stood up.

Alex stood up, shook the CO's hand and walked out the door. He proceeded along towards the armoury, "I've never had to stay in the city for more than a day, and I've always had backup with me. This isn't gonna be easy" Alex thought. He reached the armoury and inside was a small box addressed to Alex. Inside was a pair of trousers, a jumper, a long brown coat, a brown peaked hat, some fake ID, a pistol and some ammo. After switching into his new gear he headed down towards the dock. "I certainly blend in now, just gotta remember to not go swinging this pistol around" he thought as he smiled.

Shion Hougi

Shion ran out of the alleyway, seeing no point in staying in that location. As Shion came out, she looked to the sky. What a pathetic race they are. A race that should have been destroyed a long time ago. Can you see me father? Living a life of falsehood? Shion thought. This had to be a false world. There was no way humans would be alive if contractors and such existed. That was Shion's belief. Shion was still staring at the sky. When these humans no longer exist, I hope you'll rest in peace. Shion thought. Shion walked on, heading to a building full of humans. Shion walked in and was grabbed. "Wel'ome! Wel'ome!" A slurred voiced man said to her, putting his arm around her shoulders. Taken aback, Shion was pissed off. Until a familiar stench from the man brought her back. Alcohol. This man was clearly drunk.

"Wel'ome ta Crackersh. Tha finesht bar in tawn!" He slurred. Removing his arm, Shion slipped into the back of the bar. The bar walls were cracked and the roof was crumbling. All the humans were laughing and drinking. Shion was clearly showing her irritation, because when the bartender walked he spoke.
"Don't worry girly. That theres' the bars personal drunk. He's here everyday, so don't let him bother you."

"Yeah, yeah. Just get me something to drink." Shion said, knowing it was going to be alcoholic.

"Here you are miss. The finest beer here. It's very strong so take your ti--" Before tge bartender had finished, Shion took the cup sparked it, and was chugging it down.

"Miss?" The bartender asked.

"What now?" Shion asked irritably. Shion wasn't drunk, but she was still annoyed.

"Your drink is free. Your the only one who hasn't passed out from that." The bartender announced.

"Good. I wasn't going to pay anyway. And by the way. Your ****in' beer taste like water." Shion said getting up to leave. When Shion left she walked looked across the street. There was a kid and an adult walking together. Shion ignored it and moved on.

Sakumaru Tendo

Saku walked around a bit. There was nothing to do. Keeping tabs on that girl was hard. She kept busy. Saku waited for the contractor to come out of the building. He was surprised the contractor hadn't killed the human who had touched her. This contractor had electro kinesis for a gift. The SRCA agents deaths had proved that. But how did they know she was a contractor? Saku snapped back to reality when the contractor exited.

Saku had been quietly following the girl. He wasn't stalking, it was more like following to observe. He continued to follow her. Saku watched the girl until he saw the little boy and the man walking across the street.

[Just so everyone is aware, this bar is separate from the others. This means that I'm not gunna walk in to a woman pointing a gun a man.]

Chris and John

John and Chris walked slowly into the bar. It was filled with drunken idiots. "I think you should stay by the door." John ordered Chris. This angered Chris, but he insisted himself to not arguing with john.

"What're you havin?" The bartender asked as john took his seat in front of the counter. This man smelled of beer. This was acceptable considering john was sitting in a bar. John looked at the wall behind the man, where all of the drinks were listed. John had go be honest with himself, and this honesty led him to believe that this bar sucked.

"I'll have two shots," he began "One liquor and the other vodka" the bartender politely nooded and bend down to pull out two shot glasses. He then set them on the cheap wooden counter top, and began to pour John's drinks.

"What about the kid?" The man noted. "Is he okay? It looks like he's bleedin."

"He's fine... He was just bitten by a dog."

"A dog? Where was this dog?"

"He was outside you bar sir" John drank one shot after saying this and looked at the door. "Maybe you should get rid of him before I get rid of you." John declared with no emotion.

"W.. why... why yes" the bartender shook as he approach the entrance to the bar. The closing of the bar door echoed through the room. When everything became silent again, all men in the bar stood up. John took no mind to this and ignored all of them. That when it happened. The scream of Chris broke the silence. John turned to the view of a man holding a knife. The blade went into Chris's arm. John jumped out of his seat and was knocked down by a man with a metal bat. It was in no time at all that John then passed out while listening to the screams of Chris.

Prologue
How does somebody so scatterbrained survive here...without a weapon?!?​

Kendal walked down the deserted street, surprised at just how rundown San Francisco was. The few times I got the chance to look at a TV it didn't seem like most of the world is as torn up as this live-in junk heap, hell most of the rest the U.S is okay...why is everything so rundown and crappy in San Fran? Aw that's not important...maybe I shouldn't have thrown away that agent's 1911.....it was nickel plated, even a beretta is expensive around here...my mind was somewhere else...sucks seeing what a person is like on the inside right before you kill them, I mean how do you stay detached from that, I heard why he was-"agh!" Kendal's thoughts were interrupted as he tripped face first on something he was too lost in his ramblings to see, he could have caught himself when he realized he was falling, but on the floor is a much more advantageous position than you'd think, especially since it tends to give people standing up a false sense of security.

Darrick "Boxcar" Thompson, member of a nameless street gang who got his oh-so-lovingly chosen nickname for getting drunk and passing out in the street RIGHT next to the hideout on a regular basis was knocked out of the magical dreamland full of booze and beautiful young women right before he could squeeze the pair of perfectly symmetrical cheeks in front of him.

"What the hell? Danny you on wakeup duty again? Lemme alone!" Darrick noticed the blond man who was practically still a kid, without even any scars before him and allowed himself a deranged smirk. "Hey there fella, what'chu doin' walking around in this neighborhood keeping people from their hard earned beauty sleep? Ohhhh...and without a weapon too? Ain't you the naïve one?" Kendal rolled over and looked up at the man now looming derisively over him, looking cockier than the North American Roosters' Association meeting at the border between Texas and Mexico. And turned his head away as if the man's face pained him. "Oh! You're right, I'm so sorry, god knows you need your beauty sleep, please accept my apologies for being SUCH a rude child my dear vagrant. Boxcar could only wonder how somebody in this day and age could be so stupid as to talk to a random person that way in the middle of the street as he kicked the arrogant brat in the ribs and held his foot there. "Damn kid, didn't you're momma teach you any manners? Look me in my pretty face when I talk to you!"

Kendal smiled uncontrollably thinking Gotcha before the grunt grabbed his head and wrenched it until they were staring into each other's eyes and noticed with satisfaction the other man's expression as a phenomena so unexpected...so Invasive nobody can really prepare for it spread through his mind. Kendal took advantage of Boxcar's hesitation and rammed his foot right between the man's legs as hard as he could, continuing to push after he was unbalanced until he fell over and quickly jumped up analyzing the information running through his brain as fast as he could comprehend it. "Feeling lucky good ol' Bob noticed the commotion from right across the street eh? Not so lucky for Bob" Kendal noted in his head where boxcar had seen his compatriot, quickly pulled the man's knife off his belt by the ring at the bottom of it's hilt and flung it 137 degrees with the best accuracy he could muster and was relieved to see it's blade bury itself into bob's neck. Thank god 'brain vision' isn't related to how clear the person is thinking, somewhere that moron remembered being told the the rest of them besides bob would be on patrol, better yet he's the one who set the mines before he got dead drunk. Kendal looted the two buildings immediately nearby that he figured were the gang's, deactivated or avoided their defenses, looted what little supplies they had and carefully set up the traps again on his way out, making sure the mines were spider-webbed in a completely different pattern than before he arrived before walking off to the east as the sun set, directly away from it completely ruining the "Cool exit" he imagined for himself.

Explosions could be heard in a thought-to-be abandoned street as a young man with a triumphant grin on his face and a large rucksack on his back continued on. A yelp of pain echoed around in Kendal's ear drums, but he was too busy patting himself on the back to be concerned. "Oh man, the agonizing sound of a person being hurt, you never hear that in this peaceful day and age!" Kendal stopped mocking really nobody in particular as he saw two people being dragged away from one of the many sleaze hives we like to call bars around here and couldn't help but wonder aloud, "Kidnapping...now that's a different story, who besides a mob boss' daughter or an SRCA agent could be worth any sort of ransom nowadays?"

Leon Blair

Leon had recently finished his third sheet of equations in completing his obeisance and had replaced it into his bag when the women walked into the building. He hadn't really paid her any mind but kept sitting at the bar waiting for Charlie.
Only about another hour until he is due to be here. But this place is nearly filled to capacity. How can we make a swap here?

Leon kept pondering the situation as the minor commotion of many of the other patrons of the seedy bar began to make fun of the newly arrived woman after she ordered a drink a little above the taverns price range, he was soon distracted by a related – but far larger – commotion. The bartender had continued to mock the woman who was becoming progressively more irritated and as a result she exploded in a rage drawing a pair of guns from their hiding places and directing them at the now cowering bartender. She proceeded to taunt the fearful man saying
"Do it again for me." Her voice was as cold as ice, she meant business.

****... if this keeps up she'll draw the attention of the SRCA. Charlie isn't going to show up for a drop surrounded by soldiers and I need the money. Furthermore I can't be searched with these documents in my possession because people will be able to recognise me from then on. Leon, not wanting to see unneeded violence – but more so not wanting to lose the money he needed for new equipment and for survival decided he would try to calm her down, or he would subdue her. He stood up and said to the woman
"There's no need to kill anyone in here and subject yourself to the authorities foul treatment. Why don't you take a few deep breaths, put those away and leave. Trust me miss, nobody in this joint is going to be reporting you."

John Black

John awoke to a sudden banging noise. Am I in a cage?. When he opened his eyes, his vision was blurred. "Chris? Chris?" He began mumbling weakly.

A distant voice began speaking to speak to John. "The kids not here man, we sent him to another place." The voice began to laugh softly. "Damn! Aren't we lucky or what?"

"What's happening to Chris?" John demanded. It helped very little. The man still didn't talk. Why would he? John couldn't do anything at the moment, so the man had nothing to be afraid of. John struggled to break free from what ever was holding him. "Where is he?" He began mumbling again.

"He's across the street from the bar we were just in." The mans voice cracked as John finally broke free of the strapped chair.

"Were am I?" John asked as the blur in his vision shortened. He could see a shaking man reaching for a gun. "I won't hurt you if you tell me were I am."

"I brought you to ye ol tavern." John actually laughed at this. You guys must really be drunks. The man continued. "I brought you through the back so no one would notice." The man shook while still reaching for the gun. John walked past him and picked it up. It may be a standard pistol, but it'll have to do.

John then turn and walked out the door to the room. This entered into a space behind a counter. He saw a man cowering in front of a woman with a gun. There was also a man trying to reason with this woman. John simply put on his fake smile and stood there.

Chris Lanard

Chris was rudely shoved into a cage. The men that had stabbed his arm took him to the abandoned jail. This was located right across the street. He had also seen john put into a car. He stood up holding him wounded arm. "What do you want from me!" He screamed.

"There's a big bounty on your head that ends tonight." A man in a black suit said "Your worth millions alive." This shocked Chris. Am I a bad person? He sat in the cage quietly. The ground around him began to freeze. All men in the building pointed their guns at Chris. "Lower your weapons!" The man in the black suit began speaking yet again "We need him alive!"

Shion Hougi

Shion had heard the scream, and had seen them drag the man and the boy. The little boy was a contractor. She wasn't going to let him die. But first she needed to free him. Shion had followed the men from the bar were the held the boy. Shion saw that the door was blocked by two humans. This she was upset about. Shions hands sparked, and her eyes shone with rage. Shion walked to the men, her her startting to spike.

"Stop right there. This is no place for you little lady." One man said looking at her. "Go home before somethin' happens to you!" The man barked. Shion was now standind directly in front of the man.
"I told you to get lo-- Ugh?!" The man was stopped short as Shion gripped his neck.

"Why you!" The other man lunged for Shion, who kicked him in the gut, her feet charged with electricity. The man fell down, dead were he lay. Shion turned to the man she was choking.
"Where is the boy?" She snarled. Before the man could speak his heart beat had stopped. Shion had unknowingly forced electricity through his throat. Shion threw the limp man to the ground, and singed two more bolts into her neck.

Shion moved silently through the building. To her right the was some kind of cage where some humans were sitting. As Shion got closer, she saw the boy. His arm was blooded and his cage was somewhat frosted. Shion moved closer. "Kid? Hey over here." Shion whispered. Lifting her right hand to show him her power. Shion let little sparks fly. "I here to help." She whispered.

Sakumaru Tendo

The contractor had heard it too. That bloodcurdling scream. Saku didn't care, because he thought it was human, until that girl started tracking them. Saku had seen them drag the unconscious doll to a different building. Furious, Saku had followed them. Saku walkec silently past the guards, and was surprised tofind the doll had broken free. Saku chuckled. "Great job. Using a human tool to aid you." Saku remarked.

"Your human child is this way." Saku said, hoping the doll would trust him enough to follow him. "And in case your wondering, yes. I am a doll." Saku added. Walking past the guards. Saku had said something to them and they had let him pass. Saku slipped out and waited for the doll.

Kendal watched the two young men being dragged separate directions and his curiosity was piqued. Hmm...neither of them were wearing suits...and if they had guns those thugs would have taken them away...and neither of them have the kind of voluptuous curvature us men are so fond of so that leaves out the mob boss daughter theory...the only other kind of people who could be of any value... Kendal gasped at the idiocy of not figuring out sooner-"One of them must be a contractor! But...umm which one? Ok so ummm the older one just got dragged to another Ye Olde meade hall and the young one looks like...that old abandoned jail? Seems like he's the important one."

Kendal sidled around one of the pillars of an old parking complex and peeked over at the run down jail he had seen the younger of the pair and noted that there were two thugs guarding the door, looked like the same two that had dragged the guy there. Ok now to weigh the pros and the cons of helping him...well, he'd probably be thankful and my conscience wouldn't harass me tonight...but on the other hand, I'd have to fight twice in the same day, he probably has NO money to reward me with AND the SRCA would be sure to notice two stars reacting the same way and drawing closer together...Well I can't just run in in any case, I mean what kind of psychopath would-

Kendal couldn't gather his thoughts well enough to do anything other than gape as a young woman walked calmly to the door, ignored the men threatening her, picked one up by the neck, seemed to kill the other one with just a kick to the stomache and then simply dropped the first one dead at her feet before seeming to burn something onto her neck and walked in like it was nothing. oooohhhh.....scary lady...wait a second, 3? 3 of us in one place! This is sure to draw the attention of the-ugh...but now either they've already noticed us and they'll be drawn to the one who's alone if I bolt or this will all be over before they show up anyways.

Deciding it was too late to just wuss out at this point and REALLY hoping the psycho lady wouldn't just hit him with her death kick from out of nowhere, Kendal creeped into the building from a hole in one of the cells and just barely looked through the bars into the main room where the woman was talking to someone to make sure he didn't walk into a fight if there were more guards inside. Of course...the whole sneaky thing would have gone fine if Kendal had left the ruck sack somewhere else or had at least checked to see the kind of condition it was in before taking it from the base of that gang, because after just a few seconds of watching one of the straps on the rucksack broke and it made a dull thud as it hit the floor.

John entered the back room again, remembering that a man with white hair had told him something about Chris. He stood alone in the dark room for a moment. Where is he? Can I really trust this man? John opened the back door to find that the guards were gone. In their place stood the white haired man. John put his hand out like the gentleman he was. "My name is John Black, a doll used by contractor Chris Lanard." The eyes of John were still emotionless.

Chris Lanard

Chris sat up in his cage. His personality had changed yet again. "Are you gunna hurt me to?" He whispered. "I bet your just after the money." More space between Chris and the lady froze. "You just wanna turn me in." Chris turned around in his cage which was now made of only ice. "No ones ever just wanted to help me!" His words got louder with every passing breath. "There's always a catch!" With these final words he stopped.

"So? Your power is electricity," the man in the black suit returned and walked up from behind the lady. "Mine is fire. We could be a great team" the man gently set his left hand on to her shoulder. "How about it?"

Shion's rage flared. Shion sent a jolt of electricity through the mans hand. "Who the Hell do you think you are? Your supposed to help not harm your kind you ass!" Shion exclaimed, her foot contacting the mans face. "He's only a kid! And yet you'd cage him and sell him out for money!" Shion's voice rose, and now her hair had spiked. Shion put electricity in her right hand were her metal glove was and punched the man in the gut. "Why would a join a sick **** like you!" She exclaimed. Now Shions whole body was sparking. Shion was being blinded by rage. Shion knocked the man into a wall. Shion roundhouse kicked him in the face. "You don't deserve your gift! You think I care about teaming up with a pyro kinesis user?!" Shion voice was sparked with rage.

The man now lay on the ground. Shion was on top of him punching left and right. Sparks damaging his face and making it even more bloody than before. Shion knew she had to stop, but something was compeling her to continue. Shion rose, her hands covered in blood and walked to the boy, her head was down, but she was still in rage, and she was still filled with electricity.

Sakumaru Tendo

"No need for the hand shake." Saku grinned broadly. "I am Sakumaru Tendo, an I am the original doll," He announced. "Now follow me, John." Saku said smirking. Saku headed toward chris. "So he's a contractor? No wonder. A female contractor went after him when he was taken." Saku said.

John lowered his hand and fallowed saku. What was the doll helping him for? More importantly, was he really a doll? Dolls can only have one personality program. That or no emotions at all. This man acted as if he had more then a million personalities. John was certain that Chris would relate to saku if they ever spoke with each other.

Out of nowhere john fell. He had forgotten about the blur in his vision and tripped over a broken bottle. The label on it read "Ye Old Tavern". The irony of this made him worry. John looked at his foot. It had twisted a little. He presumed that he had sprained it.

As snow began to fall, John looked up. This wasn't a good sign. In fact it was the worst when it came to Chris. This meant that Chris was about to lose his mind. No one would want to see this! "Saku we have to hurry!" He shouted

Chris Lanard

Chris shook violently in his cage. His skin turning blue, as if he was beginning to develop frost bite. He turned towards the lady and the barely alive man with a smirk. Anything that was made of stone began to freeze. Chris spoke to himself calmly, "Do you think I should hurt the bad man?"

"Of course you should, after all... he is BAD!" Chris slammed his hands on the cage. His blood lust increased with every second. "You should hurt both of them!"

laughing uncontrollably, Chris replied to himself "Maybe I can use their skin to keep myself warm!" Chris grabbed his head screaming with pleasure. "Maybe I can be WARM!"

He then stopped. "But what if Seth is cold?" Chris sat there for a second contemplating what he should do. "Maybe I should just hurt the bad man?" As he said this the window nearest to him shattered and snow rushed in. The room at this moment was around 17°F.

The glass from the window had cut Chris in man ways. He screamed in even more pleasure. "The pretty blood is back!" He said staring at his body with delight in his eyes.

"We should play a game with it!" Chris tooke his finger and scratched at the cuts to make them deeper. Chris moaned as the blood from his arm seeped out faster and faster. The man in the black suit stared at him with terror.

"I'm getting the hell out of here!" The man screamed while crawling to the door. It took no time for Chris to react. He punched at his cage until his hand started bleeding. "Leave me alone you little icicle freak!" The man barely stood and tried to open the entrance door. They wouldn't budge.

"My mommy called me something similar once? Wanna know what happened to her?" Chris stopped pounding on the cage. The man turned and made a small sphere made of flames in his hands. Chris's smirk turned into an insane smile as the man and his fire became frozen in front of the doors.

Kendal watched in near awe as the very...very violent women beat the guy in the suit mercilessly. Oh my...I'm really glad I didn't just waltz in their, dealing with women that...animated is NOT my specialty. Although I suppose better an electric personality than a static one...oh I'd burn in hell for that one if I said it out loud. Despite how gruesome it was Kendal was glad the beat-down had happened because there was no way anyone heard him drop the rucksack in that commotion, especially the prisoner, he looked as if he had withdrawn into himself like a mental patient.

Kendal didn't want to watch what was happening to the man even if he was a prick but he couldn't afford to stop watching the situation, too risky. His relief at the end of the violent ordeal didn't last though, because the young man's ravings grew more severe and and with them, the cold. Cold! How did I not see it before?!? He can lower the temperature of the air and objects around him. A snowflake floated gently down through a whole in the ceiling and wet Kendal's nose. What a perfect time for snow, people say the weather around here is unpredictable but that's a load of crap, it's very simple, no matter what it is it's gonna suck, woah the kid is looking less and less stable...how far can his powers extend if he loses it? Damn, so much for staying out of it.

Kendal went around one of the collapsed walls in his cell to one without a door and sprinted towards the boy and the woman, slipping and spending the rest of the trip on his ass. By the time Kendal was almost to the boy's cell he noticed something else must have happened, the man in the suit had been frozen solid, but there was no time to think the crisis was over, he could still go farther off the deep end. Luckily for him the boy had gotten closer to the bars when he began acknowledging the other two, just close enough for Kendal to reach through and clamp a hand on either side of his face. "Alright man, this is no place for a meltdown...or whatever your doing!" And with that Kendal wrenched the boy's head so that they were looking into each other's eyes, hoping for something useful.

"So this is the boys' doing?" Saku asked helping John to walk. "I take it that his power has a better grip on him, than he does on it." Saku said grinning broadly. Saku helped John toward the building. Leting him drop at the door. "Rides over. Heh." He said slipping through the threshold, paying no attention to the two dead humans lying beside him.

Shion Hougi

Shion whipped around to the man who had just entered. Shion looked at Chris and back to the man. "Let him go." Shion mumbled. Her rage was still there. Shion walked toward the other man. Who were they. Why were contractors after Chris. This boy was like her. He was on the run. He was in pain, conflicted by his own thoughts. Shion got closer to the man. She couldn.t stop thinking about why they were after this little boy. Shion snapped. This was it.

"Are you going to sell him to?" Shion asked. Sparks jumped from her body. Shion forced electricity out of her hands, but instead of going for the man, she pushed him off of Chris, she pushed Chris away from the bars, and ripped open the cage, leaving a hole big enough for her in the cage. "Go! Go Chris!" She shouted.

John stood back up. His foot was in a lot of pain. He used the door a support for himself. "God dammit!" He complained as he tried to open the door. It wouldn't budge.

Looking around, John noticed that Saku was gone? I think he mite be my ally? John was getting lost in thought as he tried more and more to open the doors. "Why won't this open!" He yelled.

Chris Lanard

Chris was now sitting in the back of his cage scared and shaking. When the random man touched him, all of his memories seemed to come back. He remembered everything from hurting his mom to meeting John. Chris hugged his knees to his chest and began to cry silently.

"I just want to hurt all of you..." His blood was still coming out in large amounts. Was he going to die?

"Stop trying. It's frozen shut." Saku's voice echoed through the door. "The kids bleeding, but he'll be fine. He saying stuff. he says he wants to hurt all of them." Saku added. Saku was watching. "It seems as if a female contractor is trying to help him." Saku said.

Shion Hougi

Shion stepped in to the cage and grabbed Chris, piggybacking him out. "It's alright. I'm not going to hurt you or sell you. I'm going to take you back to that man you were with okay?" Shion whispered, stepping out the cage. Shion took Chris through the building, making a trail of water everywhere. "And you." She said turning to the man who had grabbed Chris. "Unless you want to die I suggest you get out of here." She said heading out. Shion was at the door, close to Saku, only Saku was hidden in the next room. Shion charged electricity, forced it into her foot and kicked down the frozen door. "Does your arm hurt?" Shion asked Chris.
