40th Anniversary of Apollo 11 Moonwalk

Heh, didn't know that was today. This is pretty interesting. Four decades, yet we have barely advanced in space. Sad really..

I hope you're joking. Do you have any IDEA what dangers astronauts face. Not to mention the Internet alone. I think we expect a something equivalent to the moon every 10 years. The fact is, that by reaching the moon, we have been able to advance in many other areas. Remember, the point was to prove they could get there first, not that they could get to the moon. And now, as for Mars, its a bit of a mixed bag, who gets there first gets to experiment first and has grater chances for colonization and expansion. Think 18th and 19th century European empires. Except it'll now be Euro/Indians vs Asians :D

I'm half-asleep right now.

I'm walking on sunshine~

I'd never go to the moon. Until a few years ago, I thought it was made of cheese.

"That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."

Still makes me chuckle when I see the flag moving on the "moon."
Yeah, it's fun to read the ******** that conspiracy theorists spit out, isn't it? Just read this page, it'll tell you everything you need to know about that flag. If you just look in the right places (i.e. not just conspiracy theorist websites), you find that there's an explanation for everything that happened on the moon. Heck, even Mythbusters did a thing on it, and came out in favor of NASA.

There is absolutely no doubt that we went to the moon forty years ago. It's an irrefutable fact. It was even confirmed by the one nation that would have an incentive to deny it: The Soviet Union. They paid close attention to the Apollo 11 mission, and they didn't cry foul even once.

I forgot to mention that in RBY and FRLG that person in the Pewter City Museum mentions seeing the Apollo 11 mission on a new color TV.

I know.
The conspiracies make me chuckle.

Well this is a very nice anniversary. The US space program has given us so many modern conveniences that are rarely even talked about (New dental brace technology for example.)

Also we have the capacity to do a Mars landing. The technology is there. Problem is the lack of true funding and public support. I mean we are in the middle of a recession after all.

But hey, I'm all for an international cooperative mission to Mars akin to the International Space Station. One nation state cannot fund it alone. =/
