    4Kids Entertainment To Transition Its Representation Of Pok?mon

    NEW YORK (December 23, 2005) - 4Kids Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: KDE) and Pok?mon USA, Inc., announced today that they have agreed not to renew the Pok?mon representation agreement set to expire on December 31, 2005. Beginning in 2006, Pok?mon USA, Inc.'s in-house licensing group will handle all Pok?mon licensing outside of Asia.Pokemon USA

    "We felt it was in the best interest of the Pok?mon property for Pok?mon USA, Inc., to assume all aspects of licensing," said Akira Chiba, President of Pok?mon USA, Inc. "This was a brand management decision. We would like to thank 4Kids for all of its great work over the last eight years in helping to establish Pok?mon as one of the leading children's brands in the world."

    "4Kids has had a successful eight-year exclusive relationship with the Pok?mon property that will be expiring at year end," said Alfred R. Kahn, Chairman and CEO of 4Kids Entertainment. "Over the next month, 4Kids will assist Pok?mon USA, Inc., in its transition to in-house representation. We wish Pok?mon USA much success going forward."

    Under the terms of the expiring Pok?mon USA, Inc. - 4Kids representation agreement, 4Kids will continue to receive commissions for the next several years on payments made under existing Pok?mon license agreements whose term expires after December 31, 2005. It is expected that commissions earned by 4Kids from the Pok?mon property will decline over the course of the next several years. 4Kids will also continue next year to produce the current eighth season of Pok?mon television episodes.

    4Kids said it will still receive commissions over the next several years from existing Pokemon license deals that will expire after Dec. 31, 2005, but said commissions from Pokemon are expected to decline over the next several years.

    Pokemon, first launched in Japan in 1996 on Nintendo's Game Boy video game console, was introduced in North America in 1998. The character has generated over $25 billion in worldwide retail sales, fueled by playing cards, a television show and other merchandise. 4Kids held the Pokemon license for eight years.

    ...are you serious? <3
    Please don't tell me this is some sort of sick joke ;_;

    I hope they do better with the anime than 4kids. ^^~

    So is this a good thing or a bad thing?

    I mean. 4Kids don't really do much changing to the original Japanese verison except make bad pun titles and jokes. It not as bad as One Piece and other animes. What the difference? Then they said that 4Kids will still work with Pokemon USA on dubbing. Then what change will come to the anime? So not much change you ask me.

    Man, finally! I do hope for some VA changes, not all. Just James, mainly. -_-;

    Hopefully they also stick more to the original version. >.>;;

    *celebrates*

    This is a Christmas miracle. =P

    Maybe now we will actually get a more decent and better dub...and Onigiri that's actually onigiri. :P

    Sweeties, you just pray, and pray, and pray, and when the day finnaly comes...you don't know what to say! *Tears of Joy.* This IS a Christmas Mircale! XD

    This could be good news. I hope it does mean some good changes. But for some reason, James' voice has grown on me, lol.

    Now we need to get someone better for One Piece too......

    No, I carefully read this same article at Bulbagarden.

    And guess what?

    I think the only thing that Pokemon USA is getting is the liscensing of Pokemon.

    They're not getting the production.

    And I think that's a really good thing, because I wouldn't want them to get the production too, cause the 4Kids VAs do a great job doing their characters' voices and stuff. ^_^

    Wait, does this mean that they may show some blood now since its not 4kids anymore? If thats the case then I gotta cry *cries tears of joy* What an awesome gift.

    So is that what it means? Licensing and distribution? I mean if Pokemon USA gets the show I bet they keep the VAs.

    Still what is the change? I mean the story plot will be the same anyways.

    Can anybody explain what this means?

    Reyna_de_la_fire, the liscensing has absolutely nothing to do with the anime.

    It's just who gets to keep what properties and rights with Pokemon and stuff....

    So, anyway, the production of the anime is sill with 4Kids, thankfully. ^_^

    And I'm so glad that it is, because I couldn't handle any new people doing any of the main characters' voices (especially Ash's voice, I love his voice!).

    I agree. i'm not quite sure what would be my reaction if that happened.

    I don't know about the news, is it a good or bad news?

    Liscensing has almost everything to do with the anime. It says who gets the rights to dub it, but it won't be 4Kids. One of the show's voice actors has already confirmed that all the current cast will still continue dubbing, just with a different studio. Production wise, the anime is only with 4Kids until the end of this season. After that, 4Kids won't have anything to do with Pokemon.

    Dubbing wise, 4Kids has an almost flawless script. They hardly 'dumb down' Pokemon as it was always like that. They do change some jokes, but often those are jokes meant for the Japanese and not one a native English speaker would understand, and of course there are some episodes that can't be shown due to content differences in Japanese and American children. Since the new script will be written by Nintendo, it'll be about the same, but chances are it will have a lot more jokes thrown into it since Nintendo does have a habbit of doing that.

    Hell no. 4Kids has control over dubbing still.
    **** it all to hell, then. This "Christmas miracle" may ultimately prove to be hollow. Seriously. Bandai, Geneon, FUNimation, or the Ocean Group should be given control over dubbing. 4Kids has already done enough damage to Pok?mon.

    4Kids have done nothing to the dubbing of Pokemon except adding bad jokes and making horrible pun titles like "A Whalord of a Time"

    I don't give a care who have dubbing rights as long as they still show the show. That all that matters to me. I just want to know what this dubbing rights thing has to do with the anime itself.

    What does it matters if 4Kids gives up dubbing on Pokemon. They don't make that much changes to it. It is nothing compare to what they do to One Piece. I don't really care about dubbing anyways. As long as I able to watch my animes easy by TV then it is ok with me.

    Well then that sounds like good news to me. As long as the old voices are still there, I'm happy, and I'm all for more jokes. Though, now that 4kids wont in charge of Pokemon, maybe we can expect better DVD distribution too. I've never really been found of the DVDs 4Kids produce, so I'm kinda wondering how that'll turn out, either for better or for worse. Maybe we'll have less bad puns now too. Even though it wont be different entirly, since 4kids doesn't do much to the series now anyway, I'm hoping for alittle change, since its always nice to see how other do things.;)

    For those of you who are still worried about the VAs, worry no more....

    Here's a post (from Bulbagarden) that will probably make you feel better. ^_^

    *copied and pasted from bmgf*

    Water Pokemon Master:

    I just talked to (a VA) and he said it's just the licensing of items. 4Kids used to handle the licensing when a company wanted to use Pokemon characters on a product, but now PUSA will. So, it really has nothing to do with the dub. It's just the company.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    So, there we go, he just spoke to the 4Kids VA, and he basically confirmed that the change with the liscensing won't affect the anime.
