Well, my answer to that is probably Pokeblocks, Berries and well, Pokemon Food that Brock mades! In the Clefairy episode, Brock gave Butterfree some food he made for his Zubat, and Butterfree gladly took it <3 Maybe it will work with Wurmple and Caterpie-chan as well!

I think that Butterfree probably wouldn't have a larger fan base than Beautifly because Beautifly is in the newest generation of Pokemon and also because May owns it as well ^^
