Since B/W is pretty much a reboot of the series, wtih Ash's experince with pokemon reset to 0, Iit crossed my mind, will Trip become the new Gary? Even after Ash got new rivals Gary continually kept popping up across new seasons and regions. The first episode of BW showed Delia, Ash, and Oak all in a plane set for Unova. Gary wasn't metioned or there so did he stay behind in Sinnoh to continue working as a researcher? This is what got me thinking that Trip may become the new Gary and follow Ash through the next few generations.

Personally I hope we do see Trip or another of the many rivals this generation in other generations as a rival for a Ash. Trip hasa growing team of good fairly strong pokemon as did Gary (Not quite as strong or big as him though).

So what do you think, should there be a new rival that follows Ash throughout the next few generations and if so who?

I like recurring rivals, but I think Trip will be in later generations just because it seems as if he's the main rival for Ash in the Black and White series.

I think we could see Trip in the later seasons. He's a nice rival who opposes a nice challenge to Ash. But he's not too powerful because
    Spoiler:
    which is nice. I also like Trip's team. o3o;;; Trip maybe a douche at times but I have a feeling he may take a liking to Ash. I mean, he did help out Ash and Oshawott with the Aqua Jet problem... kinda. ;o;

I can see Trip staying for more seasons since he is Ash's main Best Wishes series rival. Trip's team is really cool,he like training his pokemon a whole lot.

I don't have a feeling that he is a reoccurring rival like Gary. Too me he doesn't have any more likelihood post Unova Saga then Paul does post Sinnoh to reappear. I don't thick there should be a new rival to follow Ash around, just keep it fresh like they did the last two Saga's. I'd only have Gary as a reoccurring rival cause he is the original rival.

Ash beat Trip? From what I recall from his battles it goes like this.

    BW001 - 1 on 1 [Trip Wins]
    BW010 - 5 on 5 [Trip Wins]
    BW034 - 3 on 3 [Tied]
    BW042 - 1 on 1 [Cilan Wins]

Yeah he is not exactly strong compared to what I have seen from previous rivals but he is quite good, as shown by his beat down in BW010. And supposedly he was missing around with strategies in BW034.

I do believe Trip will stay past the Unova league unlike Paul.Trip is more of a reccurring rival almost like Gary was,he may follow Ash to the next 6 gen region, which i think would be a good idea.

Outside of going off your feeling what prompts you to believe that? Maybe he uses his photographic as an excuse to explore new regions and take photos of new pokemon. Outside of that I see no reason or any more of a reason then seeing him as a repeat rival or a rival that has the status of Gary were he makes cameo appearances from time to time.

Well it is possible for Trip to be in other new regions, since he is Ash's main rival in the Unova region.

His photos could deffintly be an excuse for the writers to bring him back. He really doesn't have the personality of Gary though. If he does come back he'll probably have to restart his team like Ash does every generation as most of his team is close to their final evolutions. Or like gary he could go from having allot of good pokemon to foucusing on one great one (eevee).

It depends where the next region is in comparison to Isshu. If it's far away like Isshu is from Kanto, Johto, etc, then we probably won't be seeing him. In general though, I lean towards no either way, since we never ran into any other noteworthy rival in later generations (minus Gary, but he's an exception since he's the first rival).

I hope we do see him though, since I adore Trip <3

Actually, Trip seems to be the hand-me-down Paul, who is the hand-me-down Silver. =/
    I know.
    This sucks.

And yeah, Gary decided to stay behind and become a researcher. It was obvious that he had given up being as strong as he was, because when Team Galactic were taking over, Saturn beat him easily with a Toxicroak. I highly doubt we are going to see Gary MF Oak back in action anytime soon.

Trip does seem like the new Gary then he does like Paul.

Yes it would be a good excuse, but I wouldn't want that to be his only reason. Maybe he seeks out some self betterment after a defeat from Ash becomes more of a laid back, pleasant around everyone including Ash. So in essence he wouldn't be a rival rival in the sense that he is trying to be the antagonist but more like how Gary was in Johto expect with more appearances or involvement. Too me when they kept Gary on he never really had all that much encounters as he did during Kanto. So I don't want him to be a watered down Main Rival, if he is then they might as well add someone new. And if he does start he could always keep his Serperior(pending it evolves which I see no reason it doesn't so it's sort of like Paul Torterra for a time being then reorganizes his team later on).

For me I want too see how his character developes throughout the rest of the Saga before I say "Yes I want continuation from this rival story".

I'd have to agree that because it Unova is meant to be further away than Kanto than normal that Trip may cameo in future generations.

I was just wondering what people thought about Paul making an appearance later in Black and White because he has been to all the same regions as Ash meaning he is likely just to go to Unova than for the writers to send him off to some unknown region. Also gives us another person who will just kick Trips a**e to set him back a peg or two.
