A quick suggestion

Before I get started let me clarify that I am in NO WAY *****ing or moaning about my threads getting locked, that's not what the issue is. The issue is that there is very little support for new users. It's called Poke-Community but it's far from that in it's current state. The new addition of the In-Game teams area is a GREAT addition! Honestly, it's great, but I need to make a few suggestions for the section. Remove the "must have six listed" rule as this prevents people from seeking help on incomplete teams, which is a very common question. Just google pokemon and half of the Yahoo questions pages are about what types to use.

One of the issues I'm seeing is that the sections may be a little too specific for new users. It'd be like a political forum having sections titled Republican and Democrat but you can only talk about the actual primary candidate for both parties in those sections, and there is no section to talk about the other parties. This is fine, so long as there are proper sections added for each thing, and like I said the In-Game team section is a great start. I already know myself and a few others are going to use that section religiously.

Keep in mind that not everyone plays this game to the extent that some of you do. Some people need help with other things rather than just already-constructed-team-ratings. As I said, the In-Game Team section could use some rule alteration.

Moderation seems remarkably heavy. Everywhere I look posts are being deleted, moved, etc. That's good, and I'm all for heavy moderation (anyone here who remembers Movie6.net will remember how hard I was on the users there) but that doesn't mean that every little post needs touching up.

Aside from that, that's about all I have to add for now. I'll bring some other things up later. Keep on keepin' on guys =)

Well if you don't have complete team, then we cannot give you a complete rate. I'm afraid that's how it goes, otherwise not much help is going to be given to you. D:

I'm afraid that's the moderator's style of modding, I suppose. And the fact that the populace of that forum has proven that they needed heavy moderation, but that's just me.

The point is that sometimes people don't need an entire team rating, they may need some help GETTING a team FORMED. Currently there isn't actually a section for that (there is, but they have to pretend to have six pokemon just for the sake of being allowed to post). This is a very vital and important section that should exist.

Like I said, I'm all for heavy moderation but some of the moderation I've seen (not speaking about my posts, those needed moved to the proper areas) it looks like some of the mods may just be bored and looking for things TO moderate.

To be honest, if you have some suggestions concerning a specific section, it might be helpful to send a polite PM to that section's Moderator, with suggestions, and discuss with them, why the rules are the way they are.

Usually, if you approach them politely, they don't really give you the n00b treatment unless they're in a bad mood. Still, sometimes they do, so try to be polite and formal as you can. Admittedly, some moderators are less open to suggestions like that, and react negatively to such things, so sit and watch 'em and see if you can figure out how they'll react so you don't have to fight with 'em over it.

The bad mood worries me, a moderator should be anything but temperamental =/

Is the Feedback and Suggestions area not the proper place for suggestions and feedback about the forum sections? That's kinda confusing me. Haha.

"Community Questions and Feedback." This is feedback, is it not?

So, you're saying that he should stalk a staff member to try to determine if he or she will react negatively towards and innocent question about forum rules? I don't know what kind impression we give you, but I can't name one staff member who would fight with another member based on a freakin' suggestion. You're so off base it's actually hilarious.

Salem, thanks for the feedback. As you know, the in-game sub-forum is new, so there will likely be some changes to the rules since we really don't know how well it's going to work. It's our job to have it running as smoothly as possible, so if there are any legitimate concerns to address, such as your own about accepting incomplete teams, we'll most certainly look into it. Like I said, the staff is new to this whole in-game team thing as well, so we'll do our best. In the mean time, as with the main section of S&M, we'll maintain that you need a full team to post a thread since it's not the raters job to build a team for you, but once again, if circumstances change in the in-game section, we'll look into it.

Check the bolded text. That's one of the main things, though. As it stands, there is not technically an in game help section where people can talk about "Hey, what type WOULD work the best here?". There is no section for players who are potentially new to the game to actually get help with the basics. Things have changed so drastically since the originals. Many players, including myself, have a hard time grasping all of these changes. I couldn't begin to name off even fifteen of the new pokemon. What is needed is an area for people to not just talk about in game teams and get them rated but talk about in game teams and get suggestions. What TYPE works where? What is a good filler in my team of five? Sure it's not the posters JOB to answer any of that but it's definitely an option for them to help the new questioning player. No one makes anyone post anything, and I'm pretty sure none of us are getting paid. =)

It's more along the lines of, there is a section that is dramatically useful and potentially will pull in even more uses, yet it doesn't exist. It would exist with some simple and minor rule alterations. Like you said, it's new and rules could need worked on. I think this is one big thing that will drastically help that section succeed.

What Aura is saying, is that people shouldn't just be like "hai guyz i haf a totodile, what else??" People shouldn't expect everyone to construct a team for them. A team of like, 4 is workable, but less than that is just being lazy.

Also note, nothing is set in stone.

sorry aura don't get angry at me for answering your question ilu

Maybe there should be a sticky for incomplete teams to get advice or something. =|

I like this suggestion and will bring it up with the staff.. see what the rest of them think about it.

PM'ing a mod is just another way to ask for what you'd like to see.. most sections are ran by the mods themselves, and if they need a new sub-forum or section added, due to member requests, they can relay that to the upper staff and have it made.

Everyone on the staff is, for the most part, very friendly and open.. easy to talk to for that matter. Just PM em and politely make you case with reasons why and supporting facts and/or examples.

Oh of coruse, if someone is typing like that in the first place, get rid of em. That's not even readable. But if someone needs help with TYPES to BEGIN WITH they won't know where to start on all six of their pokemon.

Good to see this is getting looked into =)

    Seconding Ninja Caterpie.

Maybe a sticky would work? If people just want to know what else they should put on their team, they could just post in the sticky with a quick list of what they already have (no movesets really needed? idk) and then others can reply with Pokémon/general types that will fit in? Haha, I have no idea how team rating works so maybe this doesn't make sense but if people literally cannot decide on a final Pokémon for their in-game team or they don't understand what types work well together, having something for them no matter how rudimentary would be helpful. If it would clutter up the forum to have a bunch of unfinished teams posted otherwise, maybe one thread for incompletes would be worth looking into? :s

I feel it's most likely a more common issue than a Sticky would be good for. The second you have two people both talking about their teams you'll immediately have those new posters confused. I propose that the rules of the already existing In-Game section be simply made more lenient and allow posters to receive suggestions COMPLETELY for their in-game teams.

S&M staff are already discussing these changes, we'll have something decided on soon, be it a change in the rules or a sticky for incomplete teams. It's true that a lot of in-game teams don't have six members depending on how far one is into the game, so we'll try to accommodate this.
