My stance? MAYBE THEY CAN'T AFFORD THE ACTUAL VEHICLE, so they just give a trinket instead.
Woman Sues KBDS Over April Fools Stunt
July 14, 2005
A listener of KBDS in Bakersfield, CA is suing the station for breach of contract after it awarded her a new Hummer H2 in an April 1 prize contest, and then presented her with a remote control model of the SUV instead. The plaintiff, Shannon Castillo, did not realize that the station and its morning team of Chuey Boy and Dirty Sanchez were simply pulling an April Fool's Day prank when she and another listener showed up at 6 a.m. to claim their prizes. The station proceeded to take pictures of the whole stunt and posted the photos on the station Web site, along with a message that says, "On April 1st (Fool's) we ran a contest... 'Win A Hummer.' Do you know how many people actually participated thinkin' we were gonna give away an actual hummer? Not on this day!"
Castillo did not appreciate the humor and filed suit with the California Superior court in Kern County. According to court documents posted on TheSmokingGun.com, she is seeking $60,000 in damages, which is the cost of a real Hummer H2.
