Hello there, and welcome aboard! I don't think you should consider yourself a newbie, why not a Beginning Trainer whose just starting off his/her journey? Your usertitle pretty much says it all! Anyway, I think everyone whose a PC members had been playing Pokemon ever since the first installments, even me! And it's great that we've survived for this long and still a fan of the franchise!
And yes, there's lots of known members here whose also members from other boards such as PHO, Bulbagarden and etc. So, I guess some members here would recognize you as well! If you do see familiar faces here, I'm sure it's going to be pretty easy for you to hang out and make friends! Plus, PC is pretty nice so don't worry about such a thing! You could always talk to everyone, we don't bite, we're nice & all. ^^;;
Yes, PC's Trade Corner is pretty active and there's lots of trades going around everyday! You could make your own Trade Thread too aside from visiting lots of trade threads and advertising your trades and pretty much what you want to trade! PC's really a fun place!
You might as well check out the whole board aside from the Trade Corner only, I'm sure that you will find lots of interesting discussions and stuff too! Most especially the boards related to the games - like B/W, Fourth Generation Games, Advanced Generation Games, Metal/Color GBC Games, Spin-offs and a lot more! There's also the off-topic boards if you ever feel like going out in Pokemon for a moment and just relax & have fun! It's all here. <3
