    "Abilities are a game mechanic introduced in Generation III. Individual Pokémon may have only one of these special attributes at a time, which generally serve to assist them in battle." (From Bulbapedia - because I'm too lazy to come up with my own words)

    What do you think of this game mechanic in general? Do you think this was a crucial addition to the Pokemon gaming?
     
    I am inclided to say it improved the game by a lot. Abilities make Pokemon more unique and add a level of strategy when it comes to battling and building a team. Its actually hard for me to think of Pokemon without thinking of their possible abilities, which just shows how well implemented this feature is by now. Heck, i bet there is people who havent played a Pokemon Game that did not feature abilities
     
    It whas a Nice new feature they put in the game, gived the game al whole other feeling from the other ones, In my opinion Gen III made pokemon Also a Hardcore game for the RPG fans, So many thing's to do!
     
    Abilities are actually a nice touch, if you ask me. When it comes to customizing your stats, it gives you a little more freedom. It might not make that much of an impact in reality, but hey, at least it's better than nothing. :]

    I agree. Some Pokemon were given a second life with the introduction of Dream World as well. (e.g. Politoed and Drizzle)

    This game probably won't be the same without the introduction of abilities in my opinion.

    This...very much this. GenIII was a critical turning point for the series as it turned it from a cute monster collecting simulator to a deep strategic RPG. While natures and the revised EV/IV system had a lot to do with it as well, abilities are the most noticeable to the most casual Pokémon player. :P
