I am a complete noob at scripting. As in, level 0.
I figure the simplest way to gain access to the Cerulean Cave straight after beating the E4 in Fire Red would be to give an item. Then then guy blocking the cave would check for that item and disappear if you have it.
I used AdvanceMap to insert an "additem 0x1 0x1" line in Oak's event after you beat the Champion, just to test if it would give a Master Ball. My first time ever hacking a script. What's more, it seemed to compile correctly.
Then I loaded my save file against the Champion, beat him, and Oak brought me to the hall of fame. Instead of bringing me to the ending animation of the Pokemon being inserted into the Hall of Fame, the game froze as it went black. Panic.
I go back into Advancemap and remove the "additem 0x1 0x1" line, compile it, and pretend I never did anything.
Still met with a black screen after being registered into the Hall of Fame. Uh oh. Looks like my little experiment broke the game for good.
Long story short, I'm clearly a complete dumb*ss when it comes to scripting. Could anyone give me any recommendations for instant access to Cerulean Cave after beating the E4? All the Sevi Island stuff is just so... extra.
