Adult theme Roms

    Hi all,

I've played lots of roms and particularly enjoy the story aspect of them. Grinding doesn't really interest me.

I'm looking for something along the lines of Korosu/Snakewood/Outlaw. Not interested in ones with naked anime characters or people using hypno to molest others.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

What do you mean by "adult theme"? Often when people say that, they actually mean "pornographic" or "sexually deviant". But you seem to be saying you don't want those things.

Yea I guess "adult" does conjure up more porno images in retrospect. Dark I guess the more appropriate word word be.
Maybe "mature" is applicable, though it often gets conflated with some sort of "sexual" as well.

Cawps is made by the same person as those above examples and is story-driven. It is, however, highly offensive and stupid with some sexual stuff (with explicit themes which are sometimes disturbing). According to the hacker it's supposed to be less offensive than Outlaw (which I think I gave up playing early and I don't remember the content to compare). It has humorous moments, but the effort put into "funny" dialogue is marred by the hacker's questionable way of thinking. There are also many gameplay elements that don't have much thought behind them. If you found Outlaw et al. tolerable, Cawps might be too.

A good one is Rocket Edition. It includes some more-realistic concepts with an interesting, mildly satirical story that can be seen as a bit dark. It's nowhere near as offensive as Cawps though it may have included crass humor at times (it's been a while since I played it). I played colonelsalt's version. I don't know if it's identical to the other one that got translated from Spanish (I think), which I understand is a longer game still in active development.

One of the Crystal hacks, I think by Shockslayer, has some interesting plot and gameplay elements but they were too buggy and complicated and fragmented to be really enjoyable.

Celia's Stupid Romhack is my top recommendation for story-driven but it's not really dark and is more based around a series of silly jokes and parody ideas than having a concrete plot. The current / first version which I played more recently is wholesome and lighthearted. Subjectively, I think it's the most engaging hack out there and is maybe even more fun than Rocket Edition.

Thanks for the reply. I've played Rocket edition and just finished the sequel to that as well (pending the English translation for Kanto and Johto). I'll give the stupid romhack a go next.

I've just started CAWPS which is ok but it's clear that the creator was seriously horny when he made it. Like every time I speak to someone im expecting them to ask if they can murder and defile my Growlithe.

Hey, hey - Thanks for the kind words!

It's true that My Stupid Romhack tells its story in a very lighthearted way, but I do my best to ensure that despite not being driven primarily by its plot, every line of dialogue and story beat is tightly-written!

Hi Celia, I played this after the recommendation and it truly is vastly stupid! I really enjoyed it as I didn't have to worry about grinding and levelling up was exciting as I never knew what was coming. Really well executed game!

Do you have any recommendations for a different rom experience?

Very happy to hear you had fun! It was a blast making it, and I'm excited to share more!

Sadly I haven't actually played any romhacks made by others (most recent hack I played was Renegade Platinum LMAO), but I'm sure if you browse The Codex, you can find one that strikes your fancy!

Oh oops I guess my game wasn't quite what you were looking for.

I just finished Elysium and I HIGHLY recommend it. It's not perfect, especially the english translations, it's missing a lot of QoL features, but if you don't mind that, it's fantastic. It's heavily story-focused and doesn't shy away from darker themes. There are a few places that require some grinding, but honestly, I just cheated some rare candies in to get around that. Great game overall, and as a bonus, its quite long. My run ended at over 150 hours!

Thanks mate. Will put that on my list to play next. It rings a bell but not sure if I've played it. Played so many over the years that I forget. Just started Rocket Strike which is questionable so far but I'm intrigued.

Yeah, it was only released publicly like a few months ago, I believe.
