I just upgraded to Windows 8, and now this is one of the problems i've been facing with my hacking:
Advance Text comes up with an error saying that it could not locate one of its files so I downloaded the file and copy pasted it in the "Windows/System 32/" directory, it still didn't work so I put it in the same folder as the Advance Text program was in, and it was still a failure.

Any advice on how to get it working on Windows 8?

You have to register the needed file, and it will work. Somewhere should be a program called cmd.exe, use this to register it. To register, I believe you must type down the directory in the command prompt.

Instead of using Advanced Text, try using a hex editor and table file. I recommend Translhexation for this.

It may be difficult at first, but it most definitely pays off in the end. You will be able to find/edit random phrases and characters much more easily (like the S or IES added to the end of plural items given) than if you used Advanced Text, and it will also help you understand hex editing in general, which is a must for any serious ROM hacker. :)
