Hi, I'm the owner of the Pok?mon RPG The Pika Club . It's been open for quite a while but I have a problem - it doesn't get many unique hits per day. I've tried a lot of things but I need advice from bigger sites on how to advertise it and make it a bigger site - how do I do this? I feel it has quite a few inticing features, and it already does have a handful of loyal active members, but it needs more. Anyone willing to sign up and become an active member, or offer any advice on how to achieve this?

Well for starters you don't rearlly seem like you want it to be big, if you did you would have a .com Having a great website isn't free you know, well for me it is, I actually make a lump of change from it. Well thats another story.

Registering a .com domain name is something I've been considering for a while now, but I'd rather not get one yet, there's no point paying for something if it's not going to get used much. I could always get a temporary .tk domain, though?

well a real domin will go a long way.. and it's worth the $10 - 15.00 in any case..

as for getting the word out.. word of mouth works best. Put a link / ad in your email sig. Visit and sign guestbooks, visit and post in forums (have a link in your sig, if allowed) buy ad space from related sites, affiliate with other releated sites, join a banner/button exchange. and most importantly, tell every one you talk to to visit.

UK money coverts to dollars fairly easily.. so it doesn't really matter where u live .. just a matter of getting together the cash

I'm sure you can find a UK domain seller. Like there is alot of aussie ones and there is alot of American ones. I'm sure there is alot of Uk ones. Then you just have to buy hosting, which is like only $7-8/mo for basic.

Exactly, and when it's not getting _that_ many hits, is it really worth it? I think it would be a wiser investment when and if it got larger, in which case it would really NEED a domain name then, but it's still relatively small at the moment

Having a domain name won't get him more visitors, but it couldn't hurt.

The only thing that I could think of that would help is increasing your search rank on sites like Google. It's based upon how many sites link back to yours. You could try to create fraudulant links by creating many other sites that link to yours, but I think the major search engines have caught on to this.

Edit: AS-Hosting can allow you to pay in GBP.

basically, the only way you can get hits is if you do buy it, or you have a really good domain. You have to take the risk to get where you want to.

Talk to webmasters, get affiliates. Go on IRC and get your site known. Its not that easy but if you have time and dedication good things come to those who wait ^^'

Ok, but once I get a domain name, I still need to find ways to advertise it to get it known
Word by mouth still works the best, as PPNSteve has said ;)

Way of mouth > getting a domain

If no one knows of the domain, what good is it? =/

A subdomain works okay, and you can always get a redirect like .tk or .cbj.net

    =/

I have jessem.elixant.com, so that's not too big.

And there are free redirectors out there without ads... you just gotta find 'em.
