Chap 16

I felt like that if I had the chance to go back and change my decision, I would have escaped with Rebecca. However, no matter how many times I replay this back in my head, I would always see myself turning right. It's going to haunt me forever.

After turning another corner, I realized it was hopeless trying to search every single room. It was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I would need multiple "me"s to do the work that I was trying to accomplish. A light bulb went on in my head, Where is the best place to look in multiple directions?

The security room.

By now, I've gotten careless. I stopped using my camouflage shield and stopped listening for hidden sounds. I think the reason was because I figured that there was no one dangerous in the building anymore. The door to the security room was open, like someone knew that I would come here. The room was abandoned, cobwebs hung from that ceiling and dust stirred as I walked in.

I started looking at the screens, starting from the left side of the room and working my way to the right side. I was getting nervous of this place. Sometimes, I felt someone watching me, breathing down my neck, slowly with each breath growing louder, pounding in my ears. When I turned, drenched in cold sweat, the breathing stopped; I was alone, for now. The work was tedious; all the rooms on the screens were the same, a monotonous cream color. It reminded me of a game I played when I was little where you had to find the differences in the given pictures. At last, I found the room I was looking for.

At first glance, this room was like every other room I encountered; dreary, monotonous cream colored walls and a clock. As I stared at the screen, I noticed that the clock didn't move. It could be broken, was my first thought. Looking closer, the clock and the rooms seemed to be tilted at an angle. That's when I noticed the room was also "peeling" backwards. Someone took a picture and taped it onto the camera lens. Bingo.

It took me ten minutes to arrive there. This door was also opened. Glass pieces were smashed and scattered across the floor. Red, crimson blood stood out against the cream walls. A boy was standing there; his back was turned to be. Without turning around, he spoke to me, "Andrea, looks like you were too late."

I was too shocked to speak. "Too late…?" I took a deep breath. "Don't tell me you killed her…Your own sister…"

He turned around to face me and shook his head. His red eyes shown with hurt. "Now why would I do that? Seriously, Ice, do you really think I am that cruel? It was like this when I got here."

"So then, where is she?"

"I don't know. Looked like she 'flew the Corp.'." While he said this, he rubbed his wrist with his other hand. I knew him well enough to know that gesture. He was lying.

I smiled. "You are a horrible liar. Now, where is Sapphire? And why are you here then?" I demanded.

He stopped rubbing his wrist. "Would you accept the answer: 'I don't know?'? And why I'm here? To survey the damage."

One last question. "Where is everyone?"

He paused before he answered me. In his response, he deliberately avoided answering my question. "Let's play a game because I'm feeling nice today. I'll tell you where the exit is and I'll give you a ten second head start. If you can escape off this property, I won't chase you down. If I capture you before you make it, don't think about running off again. Good."

He threw me a map before I could respond. The nearest exit was on the bottom floor. He started counting down. "Ten, nine, eight…"

I left before he finished the countdown.

I love the suspension. Probably not the right word, but what ever. Oh ya, suspense. :) When 'Drea is in the security room, and with Sapphire and everyone else being gone, and Jake, it's confusing, adding depth to the book. :)

midterms are finally over! ^^ (after a period that totaled 2 weeks, including snow days)

When 'Drea is in the security room, and with Sapphire and everyone else being gone, and Jake, it's confusing, adding depth to the book
i was aiming for the suspense. when you say confusing, is that in a good way or a bad way? if you don't get it, could you tell me so i could find a way to make it clearer? thx

this next part is only half of the chapter (didn't have enough time to finish typing) i'll try to post the next part up later this week. careful, i tried to use the least confusing wording to explain what is going on. if anyone has better ideas, could you tell me? if you still don't get it, i'll summarize what is going on in spoilers later.

Chap 17 (part 1)

Zero walked in the cold, brisk evening air. The voice inside his head spoke to him again, "You don't have much time left."

Zero stopped and looked once more at the pale, setting sun. "No, you're right."

"That's the first time you've agreed with me," the voice said, surprised.

As he approached the square building, Zero asked the voice, "Are you sure it's not possible for me to be in control tonight?"

Zero could almost see a dark figure shake his head when the voice spoke, "Remember, it is beyond your control, beyond my control. Because of the—"

"Meteorite," Zero finished. He then shook his head. "Why did I have to be so stupid?"

"Not stupid, just naïve." The voice corrected, and then it paused for a second. "It's time."

Zero watched as the sun lower itself into the horizon until it could not be seen anymore. Night fell. As the last red, rays of the sun sank down; Zero became engulfed in a dark shadow. When he stepped out, he seemed to radiate with darkness. The same voice that spoke in his conscience now spoke using Zero's mouth. "Ready, Zero?"

Zero's voice now spoke as the voice did before. "I guess I have no choice."

The voice, who now inhabited Zero's body, tried to reassure him. "She won't figure out, don't worry."

"That's easy for you to say, you're the one with the body."

The office building really was a giant cube. As far as he could tell, the windows and doors were in the shape of squares. To Zero, there could be no way for this building to hold anything villainous—it looked plain normal. At least, that's what he thought until he looked at the sign.

Welcome to Evile Corporation!

"Evile Corp…Andrea's in danger!" Zero yell.

The voice cleaned out his ear with his pinky. "No need to scream. Yes, Mr. Obvious pleased to see that you are with us today."

"You have a cruel sense of humor." Zero replied back.

"Would you like to wait here, or go in?" The voice asked Zero.

"How should I know? You're the one with the body."

Voice smiled. His silver eyes gleamed like the moon. "This will be fun," he said as he started walking toward the double doors where Andrea made her last choice as leader.

*note* i'm trying to think of a name for the voice, got any suggestions? :)
