The Amori Region
Pokedex | Gyms | Routes | Towns
Introduction
The Amori Region is a special, magical region in the world. Located in the plains and valleys between the Talis Mountains to the east and the Dallion Mountains to the west, it is accessible only from the Vasto Badlands in the north and the sea to the south. For this reason the borders of the region have changed very little over time and the people and Pokemon of Amori have a long and mostly unbroken history and connection to the land.
Northern Amori is a temperate region, colder and dryer in the mountains, wetter closer to the sea. A large amount of the land is forested, but the trees fade toward the norther border. Many cities and towns in the north are built in valleys or along rivers and coastlines, but there are still several in the large flatlands common in the far north, where plains, desert, and scrubland predominate.
Southern Amori, defined primarily by the large, central island, is warmer, dryer, and windier than the north. It's rocky in the northern half, forested in the south, and most settlements exist on or near the coast. A small landless community also floats in the middle of the sea in the region's southwest.
A specialized capability or endowment known as affinity is found in the people of Amori.
Affinity
Since the ancient past a magical field has covered and surrounded the region. People born in Amori are born with an innate affinity to one type. They feel a strong connection with Pokémon of that type and for places and people associated with that type. People with a Fire affinity will prefer hot, sunny weather, people with a Fighting affinity will prefer competition, and so on. The connection is not immediately known when someone is born, but discovered as a child grows and shows a preference for one type or another. As people mature into early adulthood a secondary affinity type emerges which further influences their tastes and interactions with the world.
With practice and discipline some are able to hone special skills or feats associated with their type affinity. Someone with a Water affinity may be able to hold their breath for a long time, or a person with a Bug affinity might have better than average senses. A very few number of people have strong natural talents, and the myths speak of people with abilities today only seen in Pokémon, but no one living is capable of materializing such feats.
Amori-born people have a tendency to seek out others with similar affinities, but this is only a minor preference and people can befriend and love anyone regardless of their type. Likewise, those who chose to train Pokémon will typically prefer ones that share their type or types, but they are not incapable of bonding with Pokémon of a different type from them.
The origin of affinity is not well understood, but it is known to be a local phenomenon. People who come to Amori from other regions do not present any signs of affinity, but should they decide to settle and start families their children typically will develop affinity. People with affinity will also feel their connection fade the further away they move from Region, though it will recover in time if they return.
Single, Double, and No Affinity
Some people never develop a secondary affinity while others' secondary type matches their existing affinity. These people will tend toward a more straightforward preference and appreciation for their type, more so in people with a double affinity for a certain type. People with a double affinity will find it difficult to train and bond with Pokémon of differing types, but it will not be impossible for them to do so.
A few unfortunate people are born without an affinity to any type. The cause of this is a mystery. These individuals are not incapable of becoming trainers, but they typically show no overall preference in the Pokémon they train, nor will they have set tastes in their life. Consequently many will show signs of restlessness and wanderlust, never staying in the same place for very long.
Pokémon Gyms
Because most people develop two affinities gyms are designed to focus on two types, generally those of the head trainer or gym leader. Trainers who work in such gyms will not usually share both affinities the gym represents, but typically will share at least one.
The Affinity Modelers
There exists a group of interlopers who claim to have discovered a way to change a person's affinity, remove it, or even add a third affinity to a person. The claims are unsubstantiated, but it does not prevent their rallies and meetings from pulling large crowds. Most are curious onlookers, but a dedicated core of followers have spread their message to every corner of Amori.
The motivation of this group, according to them, is fairness and equality to all people who live in Amori. They want to give affinity to those who come from other regions to settle. They also want to give a choice to everyone in the region so that they will not be bound to what they have called "primitive urges."
There have always been swindlers, people who, for a fee, will supply the unsuspecting with questionnaires or tests supposedly to determine what their "true" affinity is. Whether the Modelers are just another group of scammers is yet to be seen.

The Pokedex
This is something I had leftover from WoPC. Mostly it's based on a typical Pokemon game without too many changes.
