Aww thanks WS *Hugtackles her* here:How about Ash and Co. return to Pallet Town after Ash has competed in a League, then Oak introduces them to three trainers who originated from Pallet Town (or areas in Kanto), whom Oak gave their first Pokemon i.e. - Steven, Melissa and Mendy. This happened why Ash was really young so he couldn't remember them very well but Ash is confident to challenge them and to show that he is a better trainer than they are, even though they are more experienced. You could decide the outcomes of the battles and maybe they could travel around for a bit. ^_^
