OKay, I'm late into this conversation so I have many points to cover
1.nintendo does not have kiddy games. They're jsut cleaner games. Soem of their games are actuallyu quite developed and mature without the blood and gore. Example: Metroid for her history, Zelda for teh sake of friendship and preventing total destrcution, FFCC for it's emphasis on the importance of remembering and the effects of teh worldwide poison, Star Fox Adventures for the romance and sense of destiny, and jsut to top it off, Mario SUnshine for th parental issue regarding Baby Bowser and Peach and the fact he's been arrested for a crime he didn't commit. And those are jsut some of the platform games that I own. Again, they're not kiddy. Just cleaner. At any rate, it doesn't have to have a deep storyline to be a good game. I own a pS2 and have played many games for it, but besides the darker atmosphere and the gore, not many of their games are really that deep either.
2. Most people do not play PS2 for the storyline. Tehy play it for the gore, or for the good looking girls. I once sat in chemistry class listening to a group of PS lovers talk about the games they play. Most of the games they played where bloody or gory when described. They love it for the violence, not for rhte gameplay. And when I held a small system war with them, they declared that they visit a PS site quite regularly and said that most people there prefer PS for the more violent games as well. It's for these same reasons why teh new Zelda that promises to be quite dark, mature, and gory has so many players intrigued.
3. Teh double screen is not a novelty. It displays all sorts of goodies that would be in teh way on teh gameplay screen. Plus it acts as a touch screen, which has had developers intrigued with teh possibilities.
4. Teh DS may not have a dvd player, but PSP has to make it's own DVD medium in order for teh dvds to be played. And anyway, Gameboy has already created a way to view movies and tv called "gameboy video" Which can easily be turned into a medium for DS plus movies and not jsut cartoons. So Nintendo can easily replicate what teh PSP is doing. In fact technicaly, they already have. ANd if you want music, they have something called the "Gameboy Jukebox" That allowes you to listen to your music through your gameboy. So that too can easily be replicated with some tweaking. IN my opinion I think nintendo is doing it right. It's a game system. If you want more, you ahve to pay more for the cartridges that hold the tv shows and haveto paymore for teh jukebox hardware. People are asking too much from video game systems nowadays. Next thing you know people will be wanting built in surround sound.
5.And Nintendo DOES have more handheld experience. in the last year they learned to improve on teh lighting problem, the battery life issue, the portability, and the connectivity. Plus they've learned from their competitors mistakes to make sure they don't make them themselves. Such is the purpose of history.
Just wanting to say why I prefer Ds over psp and to refute some points up here which I regard to be purely opinion. Some of these have probably already been discussed, but I just had to say my part.
