So many of you know Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, PS2, PS3, DSi, etc. You also know Apple company is very successful in this few years. I think, what if they also make their own game console? They might be earning money like when Ipod came out. So, what do you think?

I really can't see Apple making their own console and if they did it would be twice as expensive as the PS3 when it was released.

Actually, Apple was in the console market a long time ago. It made the Pippin in a partnership with (back then) Bandai. And it was expensive, too.

I doubt they'll try it again, but Jobs might hate Microsoft enough to try to enter the fray.

Though they did produce this flop in the mid-90s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Bandai_Pippin

EDIT: The console I linked to is the same one Alistair beat me to mentioning.
Jobs doesn't hate Microsoft. They're buddy-buddy now. They even put Bing on the iWhatever as the default search engine.

Remember, think different. Just like everyone else.

Let's face it: the Pippin was crap. Then again, most of the other stuff that they sold during the 90's before the return of Jobs was crap.

In today's day and age, I could potentially see them trying to expand out into the games market (they already command a fair bit of the mobile games market), but they might have to forgoe their web-based distribution methods for more traditional cartridge-based or disc-based methods. 1.2 MB apps downloaded from the App Store are fine. 2.4+ GB games like most games nowadays are not. And if they manage to create some new compression algorith that compresses the game ridiculously and unpacks it later, and they distribute it through the App Store... guess where I'm going with this.

They have nothing to feel threatened by Google. Google's OS is only internet based, not everyday needs based.

Well that may be true, they still feel threatened, since Google's got a head start on "cloud-computing" infrastructure, which is supposedly the next logical step in the big money area of corporate computing.

why would apple need a console?
the iPhone and iPod touch are like consoles themselves and i'm sure the iPad will follow suit.

I think making a console that really base on game would be more powerful than using Iphone, Ipodtouch or Ipad. Those are use for web browsing, not really make it for games.

Well, that might have to do with both companies feeling threatened by Google.

I have a feeling Gates has never hated Jobs. Can't say the same for jobs hating gates though. I barely know the guy >_>

Also, they tried to make a console once, it was called Pidgin Pippin. It failed.

Also, I'd just like to point out that many pro gamers scoff at the notion that a phone plays games. Just throwin' that out there.

Pfft, I'd like to see that.

If it were, it would be the buggiest console that would have ever rose from the depths of hell.

    But that's just me.

This is the wiki for the 'Pippin' thing another person was talking about.

I just Googled Pidgin, and it is actually a 'universal chat client', not a console.

Are you thinking of the Pippin?

Gates and Jobs have done interviews together on TV shows about how they will think what technology would be like in the future. If I recall correctly, Jobs said Windows will be the future.

If you actually read through the thread, you would've seen that I had linked to that in the third post of this thread.

In what context, though? Does that mean Jobs will eventually drop the Mac from Apple's lineup entirely? Or is he admitting that Windows is functionally superior because of its built in hardware flexibility and the fact that developers program mainly for Windows?
