Are lyrics important to you?

Lyrics in a song are probably the most important thing making up that song. While we can tap our feet to the beat of a song, or clap our hands, without the lyrics to go with the music, you only get a part of the message that the composer was trying to convey.

Yeah lyrics are important :|

The lyrics of a song are very important to me. I like music that has meaning. Occasionally, I'll listen to songs with no lyrical substance, which are most of the dance songs now a days.

why do so many people think a song must comprise lyrics to hold meaning, and how does holding meaning make a song "good"

i think the best artists are those who manage to draw emotions through an abstract manipulation of sound and nothing but. like i said in a previous post lyrics can make an impression (especially if those artists have little instrumental talent thus thrive on words) but surely lyrics don't make the piece. "food for thought" i guess

Very well said.
Lyrics are important to a song, but they aren't the only important factors.
A simple melody or a group of tunes can already mean so much even though they are accompanied by, say, only a few, simple words.

Yes, the lyrics are very important to the song. I want to be able to relate to it in some way. Lady Gaga's lyrics are amazing, and so is the music, and she has such raw talent. I can relate to her all of her songs in some way.

If lyrics were meaningless, then we would not heed the warning of the Bed Intruder Song, and we wouldn't know to hide our kids, hide our wives, and hide our husbands, cause he rapin' errebody out there.

Lyric is important in one song, it is the one who gives the meaning of the song. I don't really hear or listen to songs with stupid lyrics.

It really depends.
I've heard such great instrumentals that would be ruined by any sort of vocals, but I usually prefer songs with good lyrics, as they have a more definite meaning.

Yeah, I agree; lyrics are the important parts of a song. They give you another reason to listen to the song--singing the song itself.
