Weee! This is going to be quite interesting, because this is my first art event that I'm hosting (and probably yours too?). But not to worry though, thank goodness for the archives being open. We can both gather some ideas from previous get-together threads and previous GT art contests.

    Things to do:

~thread content (intro, this year's theme, rules, etc)
~discussion of judges (should we get an extra person or two to help us judge the contest?)
    ~emblems (1st/2nd/3rd/participant or just winner/participant?)
~thread css (I might do that)

    Last year's contest is here.

    discuss~

    Final CSS Thread Draft

Welcome, one and all, to PokeCommunity's very own Art Contest, the Draw-a-Thon! Hosted by none other than Meganium90 and ANARCHit3cht. What is this contest, you may ask? Well, it's obviously an art contest, but what type of art? Traditional of course. For this contest, you will need to draw a picture that fits this year's theme (posted below). You can draw digitally, or by using colored pencils, crayons, paint, etc! As long as it fits the theme, it's great! Any level of artistic creativity is always welcome to enter the Draw-a-thon!

This year's theme will be on:
    [PokeCommunity.com] Art Contest Planning.
What do you like about the season of summer? Vacation? Beaches? Barbeque? There's endless things to do during the summer season, and your task is to draw a picture that represents what YOU like about summer.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Art Contest Planning.

Entries will be accepted between 12:00 am GMT +5 July 5th to 12:00 AM GMT +5 July 8th. Judging will occur on July 8th and we will bring results in either on the night of July 8th (GMT+5) or July 9th depending on entries.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Art Contest Planning.

Of course, for every event, we gotta have rules, right? Failure to follow will result in disqualification.

~All pieces of art must be drawn & must be recent – please do not submit graphics such as banners, icons or pixel art. Do not submit artwork that was done in previous contests or done in the past. Your entry must be for this contest only.
~Art must comply within PC Rules – as in, no profane, inappropriate, or violent pieces of artwork.
~Plagiarism is strictly prohibited – anyone caught stealing someone's artwork without any consent whatsoever shall be disqualified and infracted upon the PC staff's discretion.
~Make your artwork count! - Yes, it is a short get-together this year, but as a suggestion, try to add effort to your work. "Scribblework" or two-minute drawings or stick figure drawings count as little effort and we as hosts will ask you to edit.
~Regarding Pokemon and other fandom artwork – as long as it fits the theme, they are accepted! Remember, this contest isn't strictly for Pokemon...so if you want to draw something that relates to the theme, you can!
~One entry per person – Please do not submit more than one piece of artwork. If you do, only the first piece will be accepted as an entry.
~For digital artists, use your brushes in strict moderation – as mentioned in the previous rule above, all artwork must be traditional and use of graphics such as icons is prohibited. We're not saying you can't use any brushes, but be sure you limit your usage on them.

There will only be winner and participant emblems for this contest, plus a secret emblem. But we won't tell you about that! ;)

    Winner:

You did it, magnificent artist! Your artwork won PC's Draw-a-Thon, which earned you this special emblem. Great job, and keep doing art!

Fill in the form inside the spoiler tag along with your entry, and post in this thread!

I helped host the 2010's art contest, so here's that for reference too. It has some good easy themes (or you can have summer as the theme, oh snap).

For judges, yeah 3 would be ideal. Know anyone interested or maybe a current organizer can jump in?

    For emblems, how about 1st/2nd/participant?

Yeah, I was also thinking of Summer, but I want to narrow it down a bit so it wouldn't be too broad. But it's probably easier to keep it as broad as it should. Of course, Pokemon and Non-Pokemon art are allowed.

To be quite honest I don't know who would help us judge. I'll probably give it by the end of this week to recruit them. I know two, but I'm unsure of their busy status D:

I'm also in agreement of 1st/2nd/part. emblems. I'm also making plans for the emblems as well. :)

That sounds good to me, although I think that it should be more of a "winner" and "runner-up" than a "1st place" and "2nd place."

are we going to just judge it out 10 and average them, or is there going to be some sort of criteria that we work with?

Ahh yes, criteria as well! Thank you for bringing that up. :D Both are good ways to judge the art work. Criteria works better for me, tbh. Judging the artwork by creativity, time, how the member drew the artwork, was it neat?, did the member use the theme correctly?, etc. Those are some possible categories we could use to judge the artwork.

How about...winner/runner up/secret emblem? The "secret emblem" would be an honorable mention emblem that is given to the member who've had outstanding artwork but was so close to winning first. Similar to a 2nd place emblem, but this emblem should be given out by surprise. ;)

That sounds good to me. As for the criteria,I think we would want to boil it down and keep it relatively simple, like 3-5 things. And while I don't currently have any ideas, I think that they should be relatively objective terms.

Haha alrighty! I just added all that as examples and ideas. xD Three should be an okay number for criteria requirement. Probably the following:

~Theme: Did the member applied the theme correctly? Did the member follow the guidelines?
~Time Management: Was the artwork rushly made? Took all the time they need to draw? Showed effort instead of making the artwork in less than 5 min?
~Creativity: Was the artwork outstanding? Is it original? Does it exceed our expectations? How did the member use their colors?

I'm probably missing one but these are the top 3 I've thought of.

I'm also in the process of sketching the emblems. Feel free to post some ideas about them and I can see if I can turn those into emblems! :)

Then the only thing that really leaves is: what is the theme going to be? there's obvious themes like summer, but I think a deeper theme would allow for more creativity.
    .

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. Like, I like summer to be the theme (because it is Summer here where I'm at xD) but one thing we gotta keep in mind also that it's not summer everywhere. (It's winter in Australia and the rest of the southern hemisphere). So, I'd like to bring in the best of both worlds, ya know what I mean?

Here are other themes I have in mind:
~Weather (if it's summer member can submit artwork about sunny beach weather or a day at the park, etc. If it's winter it can be a snowman in the front yard, etc)
    ~Favorite Places
    ~Favorite Activity for Summer/Winter

Or we can simply ask a question: What does Summer (or Winter) remind you of? What do you like to do during the Summer/Winter?

    Notes~

--Contest will have its own logo (sketching it as we speak!)
--Secret Emblem: (will be given to 2nd place winner out of nowhere)
    [PokeCommunity.com] Art Contest Planning.

    Sei eccezionale!
Even though you were close to winning the contest, you're still an outstanding artist in our eyes! Keep doing great art, and thanks for entering the PokeCommunity's Draw-a-Thon!
--Still need a choice of theme. (I'm leaning towards weather, since tbh I don't want to be all like "oh let's do summer" like...i want to include both hemispheres ya know what I mean? xD)

how did i just triple posted

    JUDGING DAY.

    Entries will be judged on:
~Theme: Did the member applied the theme correctly? Did the member follow the guidelines?
~Time Management: Was the artwork rushly made? Took all the time they need to draw? Showed effort instead of making the artwork in less than 5 min?
~Creativity: Was the artwork outstanding? Is it original? Does it exceed our expectations? How did the member use their colors?
We'll probably be going to need an extra judge to balance out the votes, I'll see if I can get an EO to come help us out during my break in school :) I kinda want to get the results in by tonight @ midnight but I'd be more than welcome to have them posted tomorrow. I mean, it shouldn't be that hard, right? xD [edit - Sammyskitty volunteered as judge and we'll both discuss via skype]
