Ash' father must have been a pretty bad trainer.

    I was re-watching Ep 2 and Ash' mom states "It took your father 4 days to reach viridian city". Wow, that's pretty bad. Maybe by now he's just reaching Cinnabar Island LOL.
     
    Heh, I lol'd at that last sentence.

    Although, you should take into account that Ash was being chased to Viridian city, practically running for his life - it did look really long, plus ash took misty's bike.
     
    In the real world, routes are alot longer. Plus he's walking, and like Mew said, Ash had a bike. Ash usually take some days to get to another city too. And I wonder where Ash's father would be now? We've never seen him in the anime be4, and I hope they'll add him sometime :\

    Lol, yeah I would like to actually see his dad for once too.
     
    Ash... yeah. He pretty much was running/biking/being dragged down a river for most of his time in Viridian Forest. Four days would have been a good amount of time to get through the forest at a walking pace, while also catching and observing Pokemon.
     
    Ash did take a bike, run, slide and got washed down a river (possibly closer to Viridian City) which reduced the time it took. But then again Gary got there in one day but then again he probably practiced a shortcut.
     
    This thread made me laugh, but the anime has a lot of creative license. I love the fact that Ash has travelled and completed four regions/leagues only to pop up in Unova and be defeated by what is essentially a level 5 starter (ok Pikachu didn't have his electric type moves, but whatever - the amount of training he would have had, that thing should be a BEAST), serious side eye.

    Just cause it took Ash at least less then half the time it took his dad doesn't mean much. Just like in the video games some people play it at there own pace. Maybe his dad was actually spending time catching pokemon or training. Or perhaps had in encounters that stops him from his journey there. We just don't know.
     
    i hope at some point they do introduce ashe's father im intrested to see if he's a trainer or not
     
    It'd be nice if they introduced Ash's dad. But Ash got to Viridian faster than his dad did, despite the things he went through (being chased by Spearow, taking Misty's bike and getting through a thunderstorm).
     
    Guys, we already know who Ash's father is, he's in tons of episodes! He's also great a poetry XP

    Srsly, though, if the rumor that Pro. Oak is Ash's father, then that would mean that Ash would be Gary's uncle. Awwwkward.

    Gary had a car, that's how he got to places faster.

    Let's keep this thread a little more focused on their time of covered distance, rather than who Ash's dad may be. You can discuss Ash's dad, what he may be like, where he might be, what might have taken him four days long, if Ash might ever meet him (maybe beat him) and such things relating to the topic.

    Now, I think the real question would be, "What took Ash's father 4 days to get there?" To be honest, if I was traveling on my own for the first time with my own Pokémon, I'd want to take a few days to see the new Pokémon, capture some of them, do some training, and enjoy the scenery. Compared to reality, four days to travel a route from one city to the next is pretty good, especially if you're just ten-years-old. Now, the only exception to this would be if the two cities are relatively nearby of course.

    What's crazy is traveling four entire regions in less than a year.
     
    Ash's father must have got a bike at Cerulean City, you'd never know. Maybe that chairman of the fanclub at Vermillion City was pretty generous even back then. ;D
