Ash Ketchum: Master or Moron?

He doesn't have the best taste in pokemon either. The coolest poke he had was Crawdaunt.

i have been watching the pokemon anime over the past few days/weeks and i notice that Ash Ketchum is a Moron. He has all these chances to catch pokemon and hit oppntents weak points but no. He lets all these pokemon go.(One piece of advice. Catch them so you can be a pokemon master) and when he battles gym leaders he dosen't pick the right pokemon like when the enemy is down he dosen't attack it.

I'm not sure if anyone else has notice but i think he is the stupidest trainer erver i am proberly better than him.

Moron, Definitly at some points he aint stoopid and some he is..

I don't think Ash is a moron. I think Ash is just a 14-15 yr old who's just trying to be the best he can be.

And why do you people keep comparing the show to the games? The show is BASED OFF OF THE GAMES. He can't capture any legends beacuse that would ruin the balance of nature in the show or something.

He didn't release Charizard, it went to live in the Charific Valley or whatever that place's name is, to train there with that other girl Charizard. *snickers*

And about Primeape, I saw the ep when he gave it to that karate guy. Yeah, Ash said he'd come back for it, but would any of you remember to come back after like, three or four years? I didn't see the Pidgeyot episode, but I figure he forgot about him, too. [is his Pidgeyot a boy?]

This reminds me of a Japanese opening Spurt or whatever when you see all of Ash's/Satoshi's old Pokemon. :D

I don't think that Ash is a moron. Sure, he acts like a goofball, but he knows what's going on. I don't think he's just a lucky idiot >:

If you looked at Mewtwo Strikes Back, Ash wasn't just sitting there drooling, he's smart enough to get through things...

I hate Ash. He's by far, the biggest idiot on Pokemon. I'm probably just saying this because I'm 13, I'm sure younger kids would say differently...

Do you know what that is a very Immature way of thininking. Give reasons for hating someone dont just say it like that.

Ash is fine, he might make stupid desicions but he cares and loves his Pokemon, that's all that matters.

Ok, want reasons?

Well... he's annyoing. Stuck up. Thinking he's the best when he's not. But he still beats Paul. I mean, Paul is too mean for me...

Okay. I disagree with everything you said.
They drop the "gotta catch'em all line" Mid-way of Johto.
And If your watching the DP episodes. Buddy, your way-behind.
Ash already have 6 pokemon under his belt.
Just look at Hoenn/BF he only caught 6 pokemons.
Look how they turn out.
Sceptile
Swellow
Donphan
Glalie

Being Pokemon Master doesn't mean you have to catch them all.
Anime =/= Games.
And plus if they make Ash catch all the pokemons he sees, how the hell would they develop and train the pokemons.
Just look at Johto. They got overpowered by the Kanto team. Which result of Bulbasaur going to prof. Oak, Charizard going to Charizific Valley and Squirtle to the Squirtle squad.

They did good at hoenn giving character developments on the pokemon.
They're doing better a DP: Battle Dimension.

Plus why are you comparing Ash to a Video games.

And No your not better than Ash.
Ash doesn't treat pokemons like things.
He makes friends with them.
He doesn't take advantage of hurt pokemon and capture them.(referring to those people who keeps saying he should catch the weaken zapdos.)

You know I think he put thunk to show how little he thought when he was 10
EDIT: And yes Ash is quite a dope, I mean he has beaten over 24 Gyms with his pikachu and it still loses to people like Paul

Gawd. Ash isn't the only trainer who's been to different region.
Paul have the same badges as Ash.
Paul has been training like Ash.

...hokay, guys. The Pokemon Anime combines two different things.

1. Ash's determination to be a Pokemon Master.
2. The lesson of friendship and love, and not to take advantage of others.

This is going to seem rushed, because I wanted to get something on this topic.

You forgot two.

3. Ash's tendency to make really dumb decisions that would get any one of us killed, maimed, or at the very least, made fun of if we were put in his shoes.

and of course

4. Immortality. He's been 10 for a decade. But I think I might have an explanation for that. See in the Kanto episode with the ghost Pokemon... no, they just screwed up in that one.

And here's a half.

2B. The lessons of aforementioned Episode A will promptly be forgotten by Episode B.

Is he a complete moron? No, not at all. I've seem people that are way dumber than him (ie OTHER DRIVERS). I mean, if you compare him to JJM, he's freaking Bill Gates. But at the very least, I think we can agree that he's incompetent, negligent, and maybe, just maybe, doesn't really give a care (or at least is selective about it). As it is, he's in a sport where the lives of his pets are put in mortal danger on a daily basis. How that can teach lessons of friendship and love is beyond me.

Now that I've quoted a bunch of famous comedians and called it a post, I think I'll go back to viewing Pokemon as a comedic masterpiece again. Actually, I always have, since it's much easier than trying to justify all the 'not-so-smart' things Ash does, as well as other things that irk me about the series, yet I can't stop laughing at.

I think he can make dumb decisions but him being bold can save plenty lives, and hes probably about 12-13 yrs old seeing as how much hes matured.

I would not call him either - I believe he falls somewhere in between.

I KNEW THIS WAS COMING SOONER OR LATER!!!!!!

Ash=the biggest idiot in the world of pokemon. Sorry, but I laugh at his stupidity.

I got tons of evidence to support my theory.

-He always let's his best pokemon go. What's up with that? Squirtle, Charizard, Pidgeot, Bulbasaur, all gone...he says he'll get them back....still waiting......

-His decisions are stupid. First movie. "Huh, Mewtwo and Mew are fighting, I'll run out in the middle of he floor and try and stp them." He gets himself killed and gets revived when everyone cries up a river. He stops the battle...good job...but it could have been done anoher way I think that doesn't involve giving Pikachu a heart-attack.

-Ash, you know you love Misty...just say it, and stop denying it.
Ash: Wow, imagine Brock getting married?
Misty: Soon, you and I will be married one day.
Ash: Mmm-hmmm. HUH?!!!

-Sometimes I think he loves Pikachu more than any other pokemon he wons. First movie, everyone has been stolen, Pikachu just went into the tube.
Ash: YOU'RE NOT GONNA GET MY PIKACHU!!!!

-As the Return of te Jedi puts it, Ash, your overconfidence is your weakness.

-Anyone who throws a fit over losing a hat to a primeape is one of the biggest morons around.

-He doesn't listen to his own advice.
[this happens when may attempts to catch her first pokemon]
[the pokemon breaks free of the pokeball]
May: Hey what gives?
Ash: You're not gonna catch anything that way. You gotta battle to weaken it first.
[about three episodes later]
Ash: This is my big chance, pokeball go! [doesn't battle the pokemon, and it breaks free]

I think a lot of people hate me now...I mean yeah he's matured a lot, but still, old record shines.

On the good side?

-His determination is there. just overused a bit.

-His friendship is amazing to everyone, including Team Rocket, notice how they are never killed!

-the one quote sticks in my head. "Do you always need a reason to help someone?"

Although he is a moron now in Sinnoh, I mean a complete annoying idiot who acts like a hpyer active six year old. But to be fair, up until half way through Hoenn he was an alright trainer. When his Pidgeot evolved, he attempted to catch that Fearow, fair play. The fact his Cyndiquil and Tododile didn't evolve bugged me, mostly Tododile. Yeah he has a shiny.

Remember after he beat Gary, he had matured and we was hoping to see him really take off as a trainer to the next level. In the first few episodes in Hoenn, he was very mature and giving advise to May. But it gradually went back to his newbie self, I blaim the new voice actor. I know that has no logic, but it's one hell of an annoying voice.

I disagree. Your waiting? did you ever watch the anime?

Squirtle returns during the Brandon vs Ash match.
Charizard. Im surprise you even mention him. He re-appear at the third movie. Battle against clair. Johto League. Battle against Noland and Brandon. So what the hell are you waiting for?
Bulbasaur. He return in one of the episodes in the hoenn saga. and the battle against noland.

So saying "your still waiting" is plain dumb. Because if you watch the anime. This 3 always shows ups, if Ash needs them.

wow! So many people dislike Ash! Back in my day (1999 thru 2003) I was kicked out, verbally abused, and silenced for saying things like "I think Ash is ridiculous!" and "there should be a different hero in each next season". I remember the "Pokemasters.com" days when I was just being ripped to shreds by angry fans.

It was just blasphemy to them. I'm so so happy that Pokéfans are much more liberal, normal, and understanding finally. Wow, you guys make me feel happy, and I salute you! Yes, I was being serious!

sadly, I'm 19 and the Pokédays are pretty much over for me. I do watch some of the old episodes sometimes just for the nostalgia aspect, and check on this great forum too...

sorry, off-topic! Yeah, I have to say (ever since I grasped the nucleus of Pokémon.. 1999) Ash was always seen as an average little guy, with determination but no real wisdom.

I never thought I'd see the day everyone would hate ash, I don't hate him, I think he's kinda childish, but cool at the same time, the childish part bugs me tho.

I used to love Ash up until BF really, since then he's just gone down hill for me. But it's early stages in Sinnoh, towards the end of every series he ends up really becoming the trainer we expect to see.
