Ash Ketchum: Master or Moron?

I disagree. Your waiting? did you ever watch the anime?

Squirtle returns during the Brandon vs Ash match.
Charizard. Im surprise you even mention him. He re-appear at the third movie. Battle against clair. Johto League. Battle against Noland and Brandon. So what the hell are you waiting for?
Bulbasaur. He return in one of the episodes in the hoenn saga. and the battle against noland.

So saying "your still waiting" is plain dumb. Because if you watch the anime. This 3 always shows ups, if Ash needs them.

This "still waiting" is the wait for when they rejoin with im PERMANENTALLY.

One or two battles ain't enough for me.

Why?
They have their time. They been with him since Kanto, Orange island and Half-way of Johto.
Its not fair just using Charizard, Squirtle and Bulbasaur. And plus if they re-join Ash, it'll be a whole new Johto series again. Those three overpowered the johto starters. and look what happen. They get left in the dust.

wow! So many people dislike Ash! Back in my day (1999 thru 2003) I was kicked out, verbally abused, and silenced for saying things like "I think Ash is ridiculous!" and "there should be a different hero in each next season". I remember the "Pokemasters.com" days when I was just being ripped to shreds by angry fans.

Hey, the fandom's apologized on multiple occasions about those fanboys.

Well, it wouldn't be so bad. IF they'd didn't constantly add new Pokemon to Ash's roster. But each Region the previous Pokemon are practically forgotten about as Ash 'starts over'. Then the rest of the cast is left on the backburner, or worse. They occasionally get an episode to flex their muscles, but are promptly put back on the shelf afterwards. That's not how you write a series. Any good editor will tell you that. So yes, I agree that Ash is stupid for doing that. Or at the very least, incompetent. It's pretty undeniable, if you think about it rationally. But he's not stupid because of HIM. He's stupid because the writers made him that way.

Just imagine if on NCIS, they didn't bring back Tony, Ziva and McGee, but replaced them with new characters permanently and Gibbs, Abby and Ducky didn't have a problem with it. You can imagine how angry that would make fans. I for one would despise them, and probably never watch the show again.

After all, you never see Pikachu leave Ash's side. He's a favoritist, if nothing else.

I noticed that you've only watched up to half of Jhoto. Once you get to Hoenn, I think you'll understand my point a whole lot better. Or even Sinnoh, where HALF THE FREAKING CAST IS AXED IN ONE EPISODE!!! I am not making that up.

Ash is the most dumbest trainer out there, he picks the worst pokemon for fights, and always lets his best ones go.

Worst Trainer Ever award.

id say his a master moron. he uses the most common pokemon, releases his best ones, chooses the wrong pokemon and over trains pikachu to the point that theres no point in him catching any others. he sucks worse than anyone in the history of sucking. thats about all there is to it.

Well, if you ask me, from kanto to johto, he was a moron. And from Hoenn and Sinnoh, he seemed to be smarter. Over all, at least 75% percent of the total time, he seemed to be a moron.

Well, I won't really label him as "Homer Simpson" moron (meaning, no matter what he attempts to do, he's still a big moron), I can't say he's completely learned from his mistakes. I mean, as some people on here have said, he still makes newbie mistakes from time to time (even in Hoenn, where they actually played him up to be a mentor.). I mean, sure, he's gotten about... 32 gym badges, a trophy, two Top 16s (BTW, that's COUNTING the Whirl Cup as a League), 7 frontier symbols, two Top 8s, half a ribbon, and some others, but then again, even IF he becomes a Pokemon Champion, that doesn't mean he'll be the World's Best Pokemon Master anytime soon (especially since Bulbapedia hinted that it's not even one of the requirements.).

Actually, that reminds me, they never really bothered to define a "Pokemon Master" in the Anime, which, in one sense, makes his goal more vague than even Misty's Goal of being the worlds greatest Water Pokemon Master (I mean, at least she mentions that what makes a great trainer and master is training water Pokemon for battles, and being very skilled at it, Ash's goal doesn't even begin to define the requirements, thus making it extremely vague.).

Also, speaking of Morons, I'm a bit surprised that Ash and his group seems to be much more susceptible to Team Rocket's disguises now than back in season 1. I mean, at least in Season 1, he and the gang sounded suspicious and unsure about the disguised team rocket. Now, they are easily fooled by even the most pathetically disguised incarnations of Team Rocket (even you, Jorah, have to admit that the quality of the disguises, as well as the groups overall intelligence, is growing smaller by the minute.).

@SBaby, yeah, good point about the cast changes. I mean, most people are still upset at Misty leaving the cast, quite a good deal of them, not to mention, for example. I mean, even IF they had to do cast changes, that doesn't mean they should act as though they never existed at all. Though, I don't necessarily agree with the whole "rotting away" part in regards to Oaks Lab. I mean, it was stated when Oak's Corral was first explored that the pokemon do excercise and the like, and thus, by natural implication, that means they train as well.

I actually think now that Ash's goal is Misty's goal, just more "general". But I do agree that Rocket Gang's costumes are obvious as can be.

But moron is a strong word for Ash, maybe dumb or slow would be better.

Weedle, remember that Homer has a crayon up his nose. He has an excuse. :classic:

I'm amazed people still believe the myth that "most" people are still upset at Misty leaving the cast. Why are May and Dawn so popular then, if people cry over Misty? (and for the record, no, it's not "fanservice"; a lot of anime characters that are designed aesthetically appealling are still much maligned if their personality or participation doesn't measure up) And why did the initial ratings for Advanced go up after Misty's departure (see, I can abuse statistics too!)? The Bring Misty Back movement used to have a lot of power back in the day, but nowadays it's a joke target. Just look around Serebii and Bulbagarden and you'll know what I mean.

Initial ratings? what? the UPN ratings that stated that AG was much lower than even Johto?! Heck, the only time it even came close to coming up was when they brought Misty back for the mirage kingdom arc (As dogasu speculated that the arc was created as an excuse to raise ratings.), and plus, it's been going down as well, especially during Battle Frontier (yes, I know, the VA Change had a little bit to do with it, but still), and plus, America is now releasing DTVs for possibly all the remaining Pokemon Movies because they feared they would be considered "Box office bombs", and still feared it despite renewing their contract with Miramax (since the main reason why the 4th and 5th movies bombed in the box office in america was because they were only released in select theaters.), heck, some shows got removed from the scheduling (either because they were out of budget, ratings, or because they wanted to ban "Prime Time" things [like China's reasonings for banning Pokemon].). Heck, even Siam, the place where Pokemon that didn't get released in America gets unofficial english translations, is currently cancelling the Pokemon anime.

As for those things about Misty Jokes, they're just using dirty tricks. Besides, there are petitions being circulated on Petitionspot as we speak where people are signing Misty Petitions (to bring her back).

And, Just FYI, CrCl also said that Misty's fans are still going strong (and the people at my school actually supported my cause, because they felt it was a good thing. some people told their friends to sign the petition, and one even tried to force another person to sign despite not wanting to before I intervined.)

Besides, that comment about Misty's removal still being unpopular was not even directed at you, Porygon Squared, so don't try and mock me if it's not directed at you. If you must try and do that, do it at my talk page, or at least PM me.

There still are alot of people that are upset about it. It's just that the mods at Serebii and Bulbagarden have a habit of closing topics because they don't agree with the opinions of the members. So you don't get a chance to see how many people are still upset about it.

But that doesn't even matter, because Misty leaving never really bothered me. I figured they'd see her again. But I didn't know they would do that with characters every time Ash went to a new Region. THAT'S what really annoyed me. Because now they're gonna pull that with every Region. I wonder what people will say when poor Dawn inevitably leaves...

You have to admit, though, obsessing over a fictional character's "second coming" for more than five years when you could be doing something else is kind of ridiculous. Luckily, the amount of Bring Misty Back supporters has dwindled in number in recent years. Unfortunately, the remaining members are, to say the least, very, very vocal.

I KNEW THIS WAS COMING SOONER OR LATER!!!!!!

Ash=the biggest idiot in the world of pokemon. Sorry, but I laugh at his stupidity.

I got tons of evidence to support my theory.

-He always let's his best pokemon go. What's up with that? Squirtle, Charizard, Pidgeot, Bulbasaur, all gone...he says he'll get them back....still waiting......

-His decisions are stupid. First movie. "Huh, Mewtwo and Mew are fighting, I'll run out in the middle of he floor and try and stp them." He gets himself killed and gets revived when everyone cries up a river. He stops the battle...good job...but it could have been done anoher way I think that doesn't involve giving Pikachu a heart-attack.

-Ash, you know you love Misty...just say it, and stop denying it.
Ash: Wow, imagine Brock getting married?
Misty: Soon, you and I will be married one day.
Ash: Mmm-hmmm. HUH?!!!

-Sometimes I think he loves Pikachu more than any other pokemon he wons. First movie, everyone has been stolen, Pikachu just went into the tube.
Ash: YOU'RE NOT GONNA GET MY PIKACHU!!!!

-As the Return of te Jedi puts it, Ash, your overconfidence is your weakness.

-Anyone who throws a fit over losing a hat to a primeape is one of the biggest morons around.

-He doesn't listen to his own advice.
[this happens when may attempts to catch her first pokemon]
[the pokemon breaks free of the pokeball]
May: Hey what gives?
Ash: You're not gonna catch anything that way. You gotta battle to weaken it first.
[about three episodes later]
Ash: This is my big chance, pokeball go! [doesn't battle the pokemon, and it breaks free]

I think a lot of people hate me now...I mean yeah he's matured a lot, but still, old record shines.

On the good side?

-His determination is there. just overused a bit.

-His friendship is amazing to everyone, including Team Rocket, notice how they are never killed!

-the one quote sticks in my head. "Do you always need a reason to help someone?"

yes ash is a moron i think this post say it all

No. As i read this post. I can see you have no love for pokemon. I ask you, how would he stop them from fighting? Charizard got owned by Mewtwo with one hit. Pikachu didn't want to fight. Ash ran because he wanted everyone to stop fighting. It wasn't stupid, he did because he cared about the pokemon feelings.

-Ash, you know you love Misty...just say it, and stop denying it.

Oh gawd....dude Ash is like 12? WTH? Why would he want to get married if he didn't even become what he striving for. To be a pokemon master.

[PokeCommunity.com] Ash Ketchum: Master or Moron?

How anyone can call that face a moron, I'll never know. You evil people!

The whole Ash-Misty thing was fabricated by the Dubbers of 4Kids.

Ash is an idiot. Technically speaking, as he has no education.

Because he's the main character, he breaks the laws of Pokemon logic(Using Basic Stage Pokemon to overwelm Fully-evolved beasts, Electrocuting Ground Types like Onix and Rhydon)

"The Power of LOVE will help me win!!! :B" seems to be his philosophy, and a dumb one at that. Yet it works, BECAUSE he's the main character and he has to do good.

And btw, Ash, Misty, May, and Dawn are perpetually 10 years old. No matter how much time passes by and how illogical it seems, they are all the same age they were when they started off (Misty was revealed to be 10 in the Japanese version of the Indigo League) I have no idea how old the other Characters are, but they're also the same as they were when the show started. It is a cartoon for children, after all.

Doesn't matter though, as the only Anime "Episode" That I consider worthy of my viewing is the Fansubbed "Pocket Monsters Crystal: Raikou, Legend of Thunder"

Legend of Thunder was horrible, no matter what language. Plus, if you're going to watch any kind of sub, have it done by the company that dubs the show or by a fluent translator. Not a fan. Oh, before I forget, give me proof that he's still 10.

On topic: Ash is a normal trainer that makes mistakes. If he was a moron, woule he have defeated the Battle Frontier? No, he wouldn't have.

4Kids mutilated it beyond Belief. They turned one of the guys into a woman, Marina's personality was destroyed, and made it sound like Raikou was their Buddy-buddy friend at the end.

From what Dogasu's Backpack said, the only major Subbing mistake they made was a line regarding Yanma Swarms, instead making it sound like one of the characters owned one.

Not to mention, it doesn't have any of the usual Characters, which was a fresh breath of air for me, as Johto Turned Misty and Brock into empty husks.

Ash didn't end up much better, though :/

Of course they didn't, Johto was horrible. Especially because of still nooby Ash.

I was talking about fansubbing in general. But the special was still bad.
