To elaborate on my question: in most RPG's like Final Fantasy, the different kinds of characters are called classes (ex. knight, mage, etc.) so the question is, If Ash appeared in a Final Fantasy-esque game, what would his character type be?

Ok I guess he would be a Magic Swordsman (Someone who can fight well with the sword aswell as use magic). Kinda like Kratos in ToS.
