This has long been something that i have thought about while watching the anime, especially once the Pokemon League rolled around. What team of 6 Pokemon that he has caught historically would be his best chance to actually win a league championship?
Today, I want to solve that mystery. With being through so many regions now, Ash has caught plenty of Pokemon that give us a wide range to choose from and decide.
To make it easier, only Pokemon that are currently on his team or at Professor Oak's lab are eligible, this gives us 37 viable options. (sorry Primeape, Pidgeot, Lapras and Goodra)
Also do not look at it as what Pokemon he could have, like Gible could be a Garchomp or Frogadier could be Greninja because he doesn't have either of those Pokemon. This is all based off what he actually has so if you actually think Gible would be good choose Gible.
His 6 best for winning a championship imo are:
- Charizard - the thing just does not lose it feels like, by far Ash's strongest pokemon imo and solid moveset and has a Mega form
- Muk - this pokemon never lost when Ash used him, if i remember correctly and and proved to be a powerful Pokemon in the Kanto League, extremely underutilized by Ash
- Sceptile - I struggled between Sceptile and Torterra as they had both proven in their respective seasons to be worthy Pokemon but Sceptile's advantage in speed and above average attack and special attack won out, along with the fact he has a mega form as well
-Infernape - now i know that in typical Pokemon, a good trainer does not use the same type twice if he wants to be well-rounded but hear me out, Infernape proved to be imo Ash's best Pokemon in the Sinnoh region through countless wins. He has amazing speed and firepower (hehe im punny) and was about 90% of the reason Ash beat Paul. His dual typing of having Fight as well makes it a little more forgivable.
- Swellow - Ash's best flying type (shoutout to Pidgeot) available, Swellow proved again and again in the series that he could get Ash out of jam pretty well. Also my go to pokemon in the RBE series to catch first, gimma Swellow and I'm set, so slight bias {XD}
- Buizel- last but not least, i'm going with Buizel, i heavily considered Palpitoad for his dual typing and immunity to electric attacks, but Buizel imo had a better move pool than Palpitoad and showed far greater heart and determination, especially against electric types. Buizel is a pokemon i would love to have up when my back is against the wall and he's my last chance to win. Courage and heart count for something in my eyes and Buizel has loads of it.
