I haven't seen any game awards threads lately.
I was wondering if anyone was interested in one and what you would like to see.

Well I always wondered why we dont have what the hacks have as far as awards?

I'd be willing to host one if anyone was interested in it.

    I'd include categories such as:
    Best Overall Game Showcase Game

I might also Include stuff like,
    Most original game
    Best Scripts
    Best Graphics
Best Story (From both Plot and Story and Game Showcase)

    Any Suggestions?

    Most promising

And uhh... that's all I can think of

Nice Idea, I might keep that one.

Now I was thinking that for the voting, there will be no nominations.
The voting will last for one week and you will be able to vote once in every category.
You will not be able to vote for you own game.

I don't think we should have a random awards thread. Maybe something at the end of the year for a 2009 award. It seems more logical thinking of our community size compared to the Hack section.

I was thinking about just a game of the month.
But, considering that the hacking section has about 4X more people, I don't know how that will go.

So, what do you think, wait for end of 2009, end of September, Other (such as game development honorable mention)

I agree that maybe monthly awards, I mean yearly we already know what game will possibly win every award for this year.....

maybe something that awards a team aswell....I think my team works really hard is the only reason I'm proposing this one.

    I disagree.
If they are monthly, the awards will mean nothing.
The reason why it's yearly is so that after about 5 months, every thread will have some mention. It will take away the value of it having an award if every game has one. That's how money works, if we were all rich, prices would be so high.

Forget that I'm a Mod for a second and just think of what I'm saying.
What is the point of the awards when your game will get voted just because its your turn so to speak. Would you not rather win an award for putting in hard work and winning over the community by displaying that work?
    I would.
Wait until late October or early November, PM me and we get something official and fancy going. We put some time and effort into thinking of the categories and which game gets nominated.
I'll approve the nominations and that way each game will fit into the category rather then everyone getting their friends to sign up and vote for some random game as game of the year.

As much as I would love to have a community as big as the hack section, the fact is we don't. Our members aren't even as active as some of those guys. We don't have as much choice either to even do a monthly competition,

I see your point so I'm going to go with that.

They don't have to be completed.

A game could get a lot of awards and get a lot of hype (The Lost World, for example). Then all of a sudden, the game creator disappears and never comes back. His staff members try for months to defend him and his actions (even when they don't know anything about where he is or why he isn't investing into his game), and then they also give up. The end.

    Well guys..
For months now the showcase has been slow, and I know I'm not the only one who's seen it.
So I say going with yearly award would make lots more sense.
I say we should install it for the new year.

Yearly seems to be the most logical to me as well, mostly due to the fact that a year gap between awards gives the most time for progress. Otherwise, it'll be the same games winning each time awards are given out.

Okay so, we all settled for yearly.

I will have this closed and will try to remember to talk to neo around December.
